Layout chalenging
Hills, ponds, long fairway, wow, I love the course. But it is not easy to find where my balls dropped.
If you like to get chalenge try this one.
Great pace of play
This is a well laid out course and the pace of play is excellent.
18 holes
course was very wet but it was cart path only on four holes greens were in excellant shape
Battlefield
The course condition was okay, given the amount of rain on Saturday, and the greens were in great shape! The problem with this course is that they allow dogs on the course - I have played here several times and have witnessed dog waste on the tee boxes and in the fairway. The pace was slow because they allow 6 people playing together and the ranger drove around and never addressed the problem - the 6 golfers obviously don't know the rules and would not allow faster golfers to move ahead of them.
Love this kiss
Battlefield is by far the best course to play for the money. It's an amazing beautiful course and nice to play. It is open which works good for my slice. Recommended to anyone no matter level of experience.
Beautiful wide open spaces.
Greens and fairways in great shape. Has a tendency to not drain well, couple holes cart path only, but overall a great course and challenging. Down side -porta potties and no clubhouse. $1.00 for a cup of ice. ‘Sup with that!!!! It’s great to watch the Navy jets fly over. Located in country farm area. Course gets better every year. I recommend it.
Challenging bent grass greens
Very challenging dog legs.... keep in fair ways.... low scores for sure
Absolute trash
Played this course a couple months ago with my sister. Saw that two holes were shut down for green repair which was fine with me, I assumed the other 16 holes were playable. Oh boy did I assume wrong. First of all, if it has rained anytime in the past week don’t play the course. There is absolutely no drainage, it’ll seem like you’re playing in a swimming pool. Secondly, the greens were in awful shape and that’s an understatement. Every single green had patches cut out for repair, on most holes it was over half of the green. There were “free drop” signs on all the patches that were cut out but it’s a real kick in the crotch when you think you hit the green and you have a 20 ft put for birdie just to find out that your in the dirt patch and now have a 30 yard chip instead. One green in particular had about 6 square feet of green total, the rest was cut out for repair. Absolutely unplayable. Third, the tee boxes were trash. Most were dirt, a few were closed and had temporary tee boxes, and a few had recently been “repaired”. One particular tee box it looked like they cut a patch from their rough and threw it in the tee box, the grass was 4 inches long and unplayable. Another tee box on hole 17, a “466 yard” par five, was under repair, so the tees were moved so far forward the hole only played 275 yards. It was the worst golf experience of my life. They couldn’t pay me to play there again. They only warned us about the two holes that were shut down, but the rest of the course was unplayable also. To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. The prices are high for a very subpar course. Please take my advise and play absolutely any other course besides this one. I have a handful of pictures but it seems that I cannot upload them here. Again, don’t play this course.
Okay Course
It wasn’t too bad a value for the price paid. However, there were two consecutive holes on the back nine that were closed for play. This was never mentioned to me when I checked in. We played an extra two holes to make up for it. There also was a tremendous amount of Navy jets flying around doing “touch and go” at nearby Fentress Naval Airfield” that made play difficult.
Should warn people
Course is usually in great condition. But to pay and not know that 2 holes were closed completely and not even tell you at the counter is completely wrong. Then the tee boxes were in horrible condition. Can’t believe it.
Course is lacking in all areas
Other than staff friendliness this course is the epitome of a dumpster fire there are holes closed and the ones that are open the greens look like construction site. It is by far the worst course in the hampton roads area.
Not as bad as people are saying.
If you can look past the fact that the course is undergoing repairs, it is actually a very nice course. The greens are not in good shape but when they are fixed, they will be great to play. The layout is very nice and fairly challenging due to quite a few hazards. They definately do notify you when booking a tee time that two holes are closed at the moment. You just need to pay attention. The staff let us play all 16 holes that were open and gave us cards for a free round, all we have to pay is a cart fee. It is good until the end of the year. Give it some time and this will be one of the best courses in the Hapton Roads area.
Much better condition than a year ago. Winter weather destroyed 2 greens which are under repair. My grand kids loved the summer golf camp there last week
Poor Greens
Course was in very rough shape with two holes closed and others that should have been. It was obvious that winter was not kind to this course. Hopefully with time and effort this course can come back.
