Okay Course
It wasn’t too bad a value for the price paid. However, there were two consecutive holes on the back nine that were closed for play. This was never mentioned to me when I checked in. We played an extra two holes to make up for it. There also was a tremendous amount of Navy jets flying around doing “touch and go” at nearby Fentress Naval Airfield” that made play difficult.
Should warn people
Course is usually in great condition. But to pay and not know that 2 holes were closed completely and not even tell you at the counter is completely wrong. Then the tee boxes were in horrible condition. Can’t believe it.
Course is lacking in all areas
Other than staff friendliness this course is the epitome of a dumpster fire there are holes closed and the ones that are open the greens look like construction site. It is by far the worst course in the hampton roads area.
Not as bad as people are saying.
If you can look past the fact that the course is undergoing repairs, it is actually a very nice course. The greens are not in good shape but when they are fixed, they will be great to play. The layout is very nice and fairly challenging due to quite a few hazards. They definately do notify you when booking a tee time that two holes are closed at the moment. You just need to pay attention. The staff let us play all 16 holes that were open and gave us cards for a free round, all we have to pay is a cart fee. It is good until the end of the year. Give it some time and this will be one of the best courses in the Hapton Roads area.
Much better condition than a year ago. Winter weather destroyed 2 greens which are under repair. My grand kids loved the summer golf camp there last week
Poor Greens
Course was in very rough shape with two holes closed and others that should have been. It was obvious that winter was not kind to this course. Hopefully with time and effort this course can come back.
Battlefield Golf Course
This course should not be open for play. Two of the holes were closed. The greens were unplayable. I don’t know why this course is on Golf Now.
A Gem
If I listen to the weather I would never play.It was overcast all day and had a great breeze blowing across the course.Fairways were in great shape as were the bunkers.Greens had been worked on but rolled true and were a little quick. It was a great day no traffic which I can't understand .This course is better than most that I have played in the area.
Pace of play
Not sure if it was because of the pending rain; however, the pace of play was great. Fairways were in descent shape, not all the greens were.
No trees
Links type course with no trees. green grass hasn't come in yet so everything was brown. Difficult to know which hole you are shooting at. Nothing amazing here but good for a warm up and a cheap round. Looks like they may be working on improving it, will check it out again if they do.
Greens, a little high on the stimpmeter me thinks
A couple of the greens were very fast, 13-15 on the stimpmeter fast. The par 3, 3rd was unbelievably fast. My putt rolled beyond the hole and then returned to the original spot and then 15 feet past me, off the green. The par 4, 4th was very similar- I 4 putted both holes. I don't play the course often , very windy, have to land it below the hole on the green to make a run at the hole. 3 & 4 were putt-putt type locations, only had 32 putrs including he two 4's. Other than those two holes, fair layout. With wind, played 3-4 shots higher BUT the plus, there are 2 short par 4's that are driveable, nice!
MAYBE OK in better weather
First of all, I played on a cold, windy day early in the golf season. It had rained the prior day, so the course was wet and cart path only. The course conditions were not good, but it may have PARTIALLY been the fault of Mother Nature. It looks like not much is spent on course maintenance, since cart paths were bad, greens were bad, and it was not a very playable course. Also, the fact that it has been open for over 10 years and still has no clubhouse and other amenities says to me not to play there again. It may be a decent course in better parts of the year, but I will never know. At least it was cheap
Terrible
Poor course conditions and carpeted greens. They allow large groups (5-7) On a Saturday morning. Extremely slow play. The ranger was watching the back nine get seriously backed up due to a slow fivesome; offered no assistance and instead basically told our group to suck it up and deal with it. Very unprofessional staff. Will not return and would never recommend to anyone I know.
First warm golf of the year
Late March in Virginia. Warm sunny day. A little windy when I left the house. Got to the course and the winds were howling. Course is in good shape for this time of the year. Greens were sandy and very fast. Layout is good. Ample room off the tee and most tee boxes have a trouble side and a bail out side. A lot of the holes are draw friendly for right handlers. Greens are smallish and very firm. They’ve done a lot of work on the bunkers and they play well. The course will play really well in about a month. Still worth the very reasonable green fees.
The course was in good condition.
Overall the course was in good condition, especially with the fact that we have had so much rain.
This course is open but challenging with water and bunkers protecting the greens.
