Aerated greens cups were the size of soccer balls
Aerated greens cups were the size of soccer balls.just horrible for the money no warning about the greens
Battlefield
Course is getting better. Greens were nice. Hope they get the ability to build a clubhouse soon.
Below average
I expected better conditions for the tee box, fairways, etc. - the green were just aerated, rolled slow and very inconsistent.
The weather was great so it was worth the $15, but no more.
No club house, just a trailer with a frig.
This course is great for beginners
Battlefield golf course is a good golf course. It's a pretty good valve for the price. The course conditions have improved greatly over previous years.
Battlefield Golf Course
A tough, tight little course made even harder by some very strong winds.
Course is extremely loud.
Navy Jets were conducting touch and goes. Course is directly under glide path. We had to buy ear plugs.
"Battlefield"
Can see work needs to be done and clubhouse to be constructed. Hope to find there is a connection made with "Battlefield." We were disappointed there was no such connection evident as we played the 18. Course was interesting to play despite an extreme wet winter.
So much potential
This course has a great layout. Holes have tons of character. Probably has 4 of the best par three holes around! That being said. . . The course has very poor drainage and is extremely wet around 90% of the greens and 17th and 8th fairways were under water. Greens rolled and held decent but had a few significantly low plugs from previous holes. Not a lot of bunkers but what's there needs some sand. Mostly packed sand and clay in the bottoms. Like the title says, this place has great potential. With a little TLC it could be a true gem.
Much better than expected
Course was wet because of earlier in the week rain, but greens were dry and well trimmed. Will definitely play it again, hopefully after a few days without rain, it should be a much better experience.
Great course!
I was on vacation at Virginia Beach with my girlfriend and we decided to play the first 9 holes at this wonderful golf course. The condition of the course is excellent, especially considering the time of the year. The tee boxes, fairways, greens and bunkers are all in excellent condition. Two out of the first three holes are a couple of the most difficult on the course so be prepared. You may want to hit a bucket of balls at the range to get warmed up first. The course does a great job incorporating its water hazards with some of the hazards coming into play on multiple holes. Other then the water hazards the course is actually very forgiving, you can hit a bad shot and have a pretty easy time finding your ball often times with a good lie. Between the two of us we only lost 1 ball in the rough through 9 holes and we were spraying balls on several holes. For example I hit a bad hook on the 5th hole and ended up with a playable blind approach shot (over a hill) to the green. Another example was when I hit a bad slice off the tee on the 9th but found myself in the middle of the 18th fairway with a blind approach shot over one of the taller set of hills on the course. Suffice to say that the course is fairly hilly in some places. Overall this is a fun and challenging course to play and I would like to return and play a full 18 next time.
The course is nicely laid out
The greens are much better than a year ago. I would definitely recommend this course to any one that ask.
Greens are complete
I've played here a few times and have seen the course under numerous repairs but I have to say they are moving in the right direction! They have put in new greens and they are fantastic. Played on a hot deal on golf now and way worth the price. Will definitely be back!
WOW...
So this is my first review on this site, I normally don't post reviews because I find posting my opinion on a community board like this somewhat pointless. However, due to the horrible time had at Battlefield I decided to create an account just to stress about how bad this course is currently.
I understand why it is called Battlefield, because it is as bombed and depleted as an Afghanistan battlefield. I personally wanted my money back and contemplated going in after my round to ask if they could have paid me for my time and travel to play and get to the course. With all of this being said I will mention a positive. The course is under a lot of maintenance, but in all honesty with so much maintenance they should just take a hit and not have the course open till it isn't the equivalent of a dumpster fire.
Severely disappointed and will not be recommending this course to anyone. This is arguably one of the worst courses in Hampton Roads and I have played just about all of them. I really hope this course gets it together.
Don't play while the greens are "Under Repair"
All 18 greens are off limits and temporary greens have been mowed into the fairways. Right now, Battlefield doesn't offer a valid golf experience. I left after eight holes and played another VB course as a walk on.
course in bad condition.
they are redoing all the greens so they were all moved. There was one hole that was closed completely. Others were moved and very short. This course was in bad condition for first week of august. We were all really disappointed. I hope they get the course back in good condition soon.. Dont waste your money there for now..
Never again
I am not sure how long this course had temporary greens but out of 18 holes I think 75% of them were par 3's. I was like a maze out there. I will never go out there again.
not a golf course
All the greens are dead, holes are closed. They should not even call themselves a golf course.
DO NOT PLAY THIS "POOR EXCUSE FOR A GOLF COURSE."
Worst experience. Ever. I have never played at such a poor excuse for a golf course. I'm really sorry I wasted my time - I couldn't even finish playing 18. Sad day.
Sorry guys, had potential but ruined it
Granted the greens were under repair, but this course should not be open for play...
big mistake
terrible!
all 18 holes were temporary greens of no rymeor reason.
horrible experience
