Great course!
I was on vacation at Virginia Beach with my girlfriend and we decided to play the first 9 holes at this wonderful golf course. The condition of the course is excellent, especially considering the time of the year. The tee boxes, fairways, greens and bunkers are all in excellent condition. Two out of the first three holes are a couple of the most difficult on the course so be prepared. You may want to hit a bucket of balls at the range to get warmed up first. The course does a great job incorporating its water hazards with some of the hazards coming into play on multiple holes. Other then the water hazards the course is actually very forgiving, you can hit a bad shot and have a pretty easy time finding your ball often times with a good lie. Between the two of us we only lost 1 ball in the rough through 9 holes and we were spraying balls on several holes. For example I hit a bad hook on the 5th hole and ended up with a playable blind approach shot (over a hill) to the green. Another example was when I hit a bad slice off the tee on the 9th but found myself in the middle of the 18th fairway with a blind approach shot over one of the taller set of hills on the course. Suffice to say that the course is fairly hilly in some places. Overall this is a fun and challenging course to play and I would like to return and play a full 18 next time.
The course is nicely laid out
The greens are much better than a year ago. I would definitely recommend this course to any one that ask.
Greens are complete
I've played here a few times and have seen the course under numerous repairs but I have to say they are moving in the right direction! They have put in new greens and they are fantastic. Played on a hot deal on golf now and way worth the price. Will definitely be back!
WOW...
So this is my first review on this site, I normally don't post reviews because I find posting my opinion on a community board like this somewhat pointless. However, due to the horrible time had at Battlefield I decided to create an account just to stress about how bad this course is currently.
I understand why it is called Battlefield, because it is as bombed and depleted as an Afghanistan battlefield. I personally wanted my money back and contemplated going in after my round to ask if they could have paid me for my time and travel to play and get to the course. With all of this being said I will mention a positive. The course is under a lot of maintenance, but in all honesty with so much maintenance they should just take a hit and not have the course open till it isn't the equivalent of a dumpster fire.
Severely disappointed and will not be recommending this course to anyone. This is arguably one of the worst courses in Hampton Roads and I have played just about all of them. I really hope this course gets it together.
Don't play while the greens are "Under Repair"
All 18 greens are off limits and temporary greens have been mowed into the fairways. Right now, Battlefield doesn't offer a valid golf experience. I left after eight holes and played another VB course as a walk on.
course in bad condition.
they are redoing all the greens so they were all moved. There was one hole that was closed completely. Others were moved and very short. This course was in bad condition for first week of august. We were all really disappointed. I hope they get the course back in good condition soon.. Dont waste your money there for now..
Never again
I am not sure how long this course had temporary greens but out of 18 holes I think 75% of them were par 3's. I was like a maze out there. I will never go out there again.
not a golf course
All the greens are dead, holes are closed. They should not even call themselves a golf course.
DO NOT PLAY THIS "POOR EXCUSE FOR A GOLF COURSE."
Worst experience. Ever. I have never played at such a poor excuse for a golf course. I'm really sorry I wasted my time - I couldn't even finish playing 18. Sad day.
Sorry guys, had potential but ruined it
Granted the greens were under repair, but this course should not be open for play...
big mistake
terrible!
all 18 holes were temporary greens of no rymeor reason.
horrible experience
Course under repair
Greens under repair (temporary greens) and hole 11 closed. Receive half off due to course conditions. Good enough to take my son who had never played before to see if he might like to learn how to play.
Nice links layout if they can ever get the fairways/greens squared away.
WAIT UNTIL COURSE IS REPAIRED
Was only charged cart fee due to repairs to greens. But they didn't tell you that holes were closed /shortened /fairways closed or under repair! $15 for just the cart still isn't worth the money !
Greens are terrible
Do not waste your money. This course use to have the fastest greens around. Now the greens are brown and extremely bumpy.
Tee areas have not been cut. Still no club house. No snack bar, and no real restrooms. Portable toilets are getting old. No real cart paths. They have dirt paths.
OK COURSE STAFF NEEDS SOME WORK
First off no club house...have been told by plenty of locals they have promised a club house for years...fail. Can't enjoy a fresh beer or captain and coke while playing. Next complaint I went on Friday at 1240... #1 tee box was slammed and (starters) didn't help a bit...2 some then 1 some then me 1 some then 2 some behind me and it took 4 hours to play 9. Poor management. Won't play again. Wished it was better experience course was on good shape .
This course has great potential!
Friendly staff including the superintendent. . Great layout.. always impeccable greens..good value
Battlefield Golf @ Centerville/02/08/2015
Although the daytime temperature was low 70's the wind was howling at about 25 mph which made the longer par 4's 3 shot holes. There was not a lotof standing water which was remarkable after all the rain in the previous days. I have played this course numerous times and the price is always reasonable. All in all, the golf is well worth the price.
winter golf
Love what the improvement they made & still doing with the course..friendly staff...
how to turn a fun family golf outing into a miserable day
i went to play golf with my family(3 generations)and we were treated extremely rude during our round by the marshal and the "trailer staff" or whatever you call the guy who takes your money in their trailer club house. the course is still in pretty bad shape and they have raised their rates. it was barely worth the 15$ price tag before, its definitely not worth the 30$ they are asking now. my advice to any golfers out there is to play somewhere else you will have a better golf outing and you will not have to deal with the rude staff and their joke of a marshal
Ruin a good day (not in the good way)
I have played here several times over the years. For a while it seemed like the course was improving but this last trip was a giant leap backwards. It is overpriced for the condition of the course and the employees are rude and unhelpful. Do yourself a favor and play ANYWHERE else. I will not be going back.
