Disgusting and potentially dangerous. A guy died from bacteria on a golf course once from nasty jugs. Photo submitted by JustaGOONER on 10/01/2019

One of the Richmond areas top courses
Lake Chesdin is one the areas top courses I have played. The staff here is very friendly and accommodating. The club house is very nice with a well stocked pro shop. The practice facility has everything you need from grass driving range, to bunker practice area, to a very large practice green. The practice green was exactly how the greens on the course were so no surprises when you got out there. There are four sets of tee boxes so you will have something to match your game. The tee boxes are in good shape overall right now. Only a few have some bare spots from the winter. The fairways are greening up nicely and the Bermuda grass is filling in well. The bunkers are nice with consistent depth throughout the course. The greens are top notch in the Richmond area. They have fully recovered from the aeration and winter. They were rolling true, smooth and consistent. There were only a few spots where the skirts around the greens either needed work or just haven't grown in yet this spring. There is a good mix of holes on this course to say the least. Definitely not a course you can just rip driver every hole and I really like that. The layout is nice and not overly challenging. The carts are really nice with plenty of room for your things as well as two USB ports to charge your stuff while playing. This course is not 100% private as you can book tee times through GolfNow. I highly recommend this course if you want to play something very nice in the Richmond, VA area.

Very enjoyable round of golf.
Played here as a single. Before I booked the tee time, pro shop gave me a heads up that pace of play would be slow. They had a lot of rain day before so cart path only slowed things down. I went ahead and booked anyway. Pace was a bit slower, but not that bad. It was a beautiful day and course was very scenic. After the round and as I was packing things up to leave, I heard someone call out my name. It was the gentleman from the pro shop apologizing again for the slow pace and providing me with a significant discount for my next round. I will definitely be back. A great example of how great customer service builds customer loyalty.
Better Golfers, Come Try Chesdin
8 handicap and I play many courses. This place is serene, inviting and provides a challenge - mostly, a fun and challenging play. Despite recent aeration, the greens rolled true. The rough wasn't overly penalizing. The bunkers were a bit uneven on depth and consistency. Well-kept and clearly has a keeper with pride. Don't expect local amenities, it's off the beaten path. The lack of a beverage cart was overcome by a phone call and fast service to our group - great service! The pro cares about your experience. Overall, I'll be back as often as my wife allows.
Top Course in the Area
What a fantastic course. Had played this course once last year, and it wasn't quite up to par, however top marks all around this time. Perfect Greens, great fairways, nice club house, great range, and brand new carts! This course is easily the best in the area, and i've played most of them... Magnolia Greens (very over-rated!), Independence, Royal New Kent, Hunting Hawk, the Crossings, Hanover, Birkdale, Brandermill, Jefferson Lakeside, Belmont, Highlands... none of those compare.
Best course in 50 mile radius
First time playing this course last weekend and can't say enough positive things about it. A few of the tee boxes could have been a tad better, but this is by far the best and more challenging(back nine) course I've played. I've played Magnolia, independence, colonial Williamsburg, and countless others and none compare to this course. You won't be disappointed in this playing here.
Spectacular!
Great layout, great conditions, friendly staff. Best greens I have played in winter. Plenty of challenge for any golfer but playable for a high-handicapper.
They are finally going semi-private.
I love this course. Everything about it. I give 3 for the amenities because the 19th hole isn't open as they are between management.
Otherwise this course has all you could want. Great practice facilities and range, risk reward holes, elevation changes and challenging but fair greens.
This time of year in Virginia the rough will swallow your ball, so stay in the short stuff.
This course is absolutely worth the trip. Will play is many times in the future.
Cheers
Love the course
Love the course. The course is well maintained and the carts are in good shape. The staff is helpful and friendly.
The practice facility is also very good, range, pitching green, sand and a large putting green.
A word to the wise, keep the ball in the fairway. The rough is just long enough to swallow the ball. A few were hard to find.
As I said I love the course and hope to play it many more time
Excellent Experience
Consistent with its reputation, this course was a pleasure to play. My two-some, even as non-members, was greeted with courtesy and professionalism. Nearing the end of the season, the fairway grass was not plush, but the members here take VERY good care of their course. The fairway divots were all filled with sand provided on each cart and refills are positioned intermittently around the course. The greens were in excellent condition, and once again, the members have fixed ALL of their ball marks. Pleasant and Quiet forest course with beautiful homes and leisurely atmosphere. Fairways are wide, and the course is not long, but even the 1st cut of fringe has that wiry grass that allows the ball to fall deeply into it. Therefore, don't be fooled by the width of the fairway in front of you! Overall, very pleasant experience here.
Great Local Course
One of the nicest courses I have played. Blemish free greens, but very fast. Course was well manicured and Beautiful ! Great value on Golfnow.
Beautiful Course
I was part of a foursome that were able to book a round through a member. The course is private.
There wasn't much rain in the area for several weeks leading up to our round but the entire course was very green.
Tee boxes were plush and soft, fairways were mowed with an ample first cut rough and almost all the greens were extremely soft, but very fast. The rough is thick and it was easy to lose sight of your ball if it ventured too far off the short grass. All traps had plenty of fluffy, white sand.
Pace of play was fine- we played our round in just over 4 hours. Every employee we encountered, from the pro shop to grounds keepers, were friendly and made sure not to interrupt our play. The course manager was even out on the back nine marking new pin placements and complimented our shots on a couple of holes.
Overall, this may is one of the nicest courses in central Virginia. If you get the chance to play a round I highly recommend it.
Nice Course
Course was in really good condition and the pace of play was wonderful. Would definitely play the course again in the future.
Nice Course
I've played here many times but not a member. It's a very nice layout and it's almost never crowded. They have an issue with head-circling flies on some holes, but other than that, it's a very nice place to play. Excellent range and practice green. Course greens and fairways are always in great shape. Some bunkers could use finer sand. The pro, Tim White, is a great teacher.
Great Course
Great course, some water, great greens and fairways. Best course I've played in the area.
