About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

Slow playing all day long four &forty five minutes long. To many walkers. It"s like this all the time.
Great Renovation of an urban gem.
I have played this course twice. The first time about 7 years ago before renovation and rebirth. Then I played it again. It is a great layout excellent renewed greens, tees and fairways. I played in February so the agronomy was dormant but I think it will flourish in season. The fairway contours were challenging with strategic hazards and the bunkers were in excellent condition. It is an urban course with moving traffic on the perimeters, that’s ok, part of its character. My only criticism was the condition of “urban” debris in the water hazards. But there was also an alligator. Plan to play it again. Great for the money. Try it.
Great Value and best greens around
Can’t beat this track for the price. Haven’t seen greens this good for under$100 a round. Sand in traps is soft and consistent which is all you can ask for bunkers. Great value!
