Gus Wortham Park Golf Course

About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

Enjoyed it
1 of the Top 3 public courses in Houston. Love this course. Worse part of the experience is the golf range and having to hit off mats. Nevertheless, a wonderful golf experience.
Perfect fairways
Not sure how much water you have to put on the course to make those fairways as perfect as they are, but in this heat you can’t beat the conditions.
Hidden Gem
I played Gus for the first time on the recommendation of a couple of locals at another course. Overall, I enjoyed the course. It's tucked away where you wouldn't expect a course to be. It has plenty of challenges and the greens were somewhat tricky. The round was going along just great until mother nature decided to end it on the 16th. I'll definitely be going back to make the full turn. If you haven't had the chance to play here, you should.
Best value in Houston
Great loop, very well kept. Best greens in Houston. Pace of play can be a little on the slow side at times.
Overall this is one of the better deals in Houston.
This is the epitome of "Diamond in the ruff." Greens are spectacular!
Help this course and obey the carts on path signs. I played at 1:30 with a heat index in the 100's. My buddy and I were paired with a retired gentleman and his daughter. We all survived while respecting the cart path rules. Keep this course great all, please.
Really good under the conditions.
Fairways and greens were in good shape considering the drought that we've had. Fairways will like carpet and greens were smooth and running.
Very Nice Renovation
I haven’t played here since around 2005 or 2006, and it is much improved! I will definitely be back.
If there was 1 thing wrong it would be not enough shade around the tee boxes.
Top Tier Course
Great layout, challenging, great fairways, and pristine greens! This course will make you play smart as well as the greens roll true to what you read off of them. Definitely recommend playing here!
Best value in Houston
Great conditions and greens. Can’t beat the price and beer price good too.
Big D
Very good condition for muni, however layout is not that exciting.
