Gus Wortham Park Golf Course
About
Texas' oldest existing 18-hole track was originally built in 1908 to serve members of Houston Country Club. When the club found a new location in the 1950s, Gus Wortham bought the facility and opened it to the public with $60 annual dues. The city of Houston took over in 1973, and it's been one of the busiest courses in the state ever since.
The unique design features a trio of par 5s on holes 2-4, a rarity in golf. One of the better birdie opportunities is the 293-yard No. 9. On the back, one of Texas' signature par 3s awaits in the 250-yard No. 16.
Getting there : From I-45, take the Wakeside Blvd. Exit and travel 1 mile north to Capitol St.

A Gem
The course is very well maintained. The downtown skyline is a nice view. Warm up range and greens a very nice
Can’t wait to play here again!
This was my first time ever playing this course and I really enjoyed it. The course is in great shape, and the staff is very helpful and friendly. Can’t believe I’ve never played here, and I can’t wait to play here again!
Just aerated
Give it a few weeks for the the holes and sand to be gone, but still worth it. Course is always fun and challenging.
And after the round there is a Mexican Seafood restaurant by the entrance that is good too.
Five hours
Great course run by city, but needs help running the place. Foursome in front of us didn 't belong no the course. They parked 50 yards short of the green most holes and had 3 to 4 holes open in front of them.
Great Public Course
Book your tee time now. Course was in great condition, staff was top notch, pace of play couldn’t of been better. Top notch public course for houston. Overall 5 stars for the price.
Awesome Course
I’ve played this course many times and never been disappointed.
Course conditions
Best course south of Houston. Well keeped and greens run true.
Beautiful day for golf!
Now is a great time to play a really nice course! Fairways and greens are in great shape just wish my game matched up to it!

Been years and I must say it got the best of me. Love it I'll be back.
Sr Rates
Maybe it's the area, maybe it's the course. But was surprised to arrive after booking to find that Sr rate was for over 65 vs 55.
No carts in the parking lot was another small item that was odd to me.
Enjoyed the course but pace of play was really slow for a weekday.
Sneaky tough course for the first time
I admit. Thought it would be a “get right” day on an easy muni. Doesn’t look all that challenging from the road on the way there. Wrong. The layout has well placed bunkers, lots of turtle back greens, and some tough carries. I was frustrated by the tight lies around the greens, but that’s to be expected in winter conditions. I had several shots run through the greens, which made for tough, short-sided flop shots coming back with not enough grass to get the job done. Add a strong wind to the equation and it turned into a tough day. Still enjoyed the course and the staff. The starter treated us like we were old friends. The greens were in excellent shape. The bunkers had consistent sand. I wanted to come back and have another try at it, but the place was booked solid. I know why now. It’s a great test of golf for a fair price.
Must play course
My favorite course for price
Please try it will bring you back
Impressive
I was impressed with the changes and improvements at this course. Cold day but the course was in first class shape. Staff and facilities are fantastic
