5 and 7 handicappers day out
Fantastic views over the Lake District and Pennines. Challenging course with a mixture of shorter par 4s with some long carries and 3 wood approaches with a really interesting signature par 3. Capped by very friendly staff in the clubhouse. Look forward to coming back
Appleby little gem
Always love playing this course. Very forgiving and great set up. The sheep not bothered about balls flying at them and keep the grass down nice and short.
It's worth the trip out to play this course
Sparkling course on a perfect day.
Great from start to finish.
Catering top notch/ staff first class/ course spot on.
Would strongly recommend.
Very enjoyable
Course was in great condition albeit the hundreds of sheep scattered across the course was certainly a new experience.
Played early morning in relatively calm conditions. A few holes were blind, which was a challenge having never played the course before but a number of holes give opportunities for building a good score.
Being so open I can imagine the course would be an entirely different proposition in windier conditions.
All in all an enjoyable round.
Interesting course with brilliant greens.
Great course. Quite short as no par 5's but we didn't mind that. The greens were immaculate. Lots of sheep roaming the course but they didn't get in the way much. The food in the clubhouse was fantastic and the staff were really friendly. Highly recommend.
Fun course
Played Appleby at short notice and following recommendation. It didn’t disappoint. The course was in good condition and the greens were great. You’ll find a few sheep along the way which just adds to the character of the course. The staff in the clubhouse were 1st class and we finished off the a fab chip butty!
Great day all round
A beautiful challenge
The course is challenging but manageable. The greens were perfect. All very consistent and fair. The wind made for some interesting shots, but this was a nice challenge. The staff are friendly and the views are spectacular. I will definitely be back.
Superb as usual
Played appleby on a dry but cloudy day. Course in excellent condition. All work completed round the bunkers. I'm an ex greenkeeper myself, so I really appreciate the quality of this special course. So affordable when booked on the app. Been playing this course a couple of times a year for the last 20 years. Always worth an hours drive. Hope to have many more visits to this special place!
Lovely Moorland Course
Played the course in 40mph gusts which made it a great challenge. Greens are immaculate, course layout is very good. Not a tree in sight (which is a big bonus if you’re not straight with a driver). All the holes were a pleasure to play, but the 15th did not disappoint!Highly recommend this course.
Beer options afterwards were good and reasonably priced too.
Will visit again when back up in the area.
Great again!
Always enjoy visiting Appleby and it certainly didn't disappoint today. Course was in excellent condition, bar a few green side bunkers which were GUR for re-turffing of the surrounding approns. Barman was as friendly as ever and the dirty fries following the round were tasty and good value for money.
Classic inland links
Beautiful course played in perfect conditions. Greens very flat and hard but surprisingly slow. I suspect because the grass is yet to start growing properly.
The very dry conditions meant the course played like a classic links and it is all the better for it. The greens were so hard they were not at all receptive and it made a totally different challenge to normal.
It is a generous driving course, although if you get out of position it is sufficiently penal but you don't lose your ball! The challenge in benign conditions is on and around the greens which are varied with many slopes and borrows.
A very friendly club, good food, and a beautiful setting. A bit of a gem.
Course is in fantastic condition, greens are the best I’ve played on in a long time. A lovely welcome and a great sausage sandwich. Wish it was closer to my house
Appleby
Excellent greens on a moorland course, staff couldn’t be more helpful and friendly with great value for money food and drink
Moorland golf
It’s early November, the shorter, gold (ie winter) layout, and fairway mats, so you need to adjust expectations. We obviously didn’t see the course at its best and I would like to try it again in summer.
My biggest surprise was the layout. It’s like a chain - one hole follows another around the moor. You can seldom see any hole except the one you are playing, which means the course lacks conventional definition and is visually unattractive. Anti sheep fences around the greens and plenty of sheep droppings (although we saw no sheep!)
Worth the drive
Drove up from Burnley which give or take is 2 hours but what a well worth visit,
Golf in its rawest form, course is brilliant, the rough doesn’t look to punishing unless you are quiet off line which happened a couple of times, greens in unbelievable condition, weather was good, views are out of this world.
Just go and play here it’s that simple,
If you don’t want to drive as far and your Burnley bases or round that area go try Baildon it’s something similar
Highly recommended
Very good course, fairways and greens in superb condition considering how much rain previous days and other local clubs shut.
No par 5’s makes it an interesting challenge, some blind tee shots and great holes.
Lovely course with excellent greens and well managed fairways
What a stunner. We were made to feel really welcome and members we spoke to were really friendly . Will definitely go back!
