Moorland golf

It’s early November, the shorter, gold (ie winter) layout, and fairway mats, so you need to adjust expectations. We obviously didn’t see the course at its best and I would like to try it again in summer.

My biggest surprise was the layout. It’s like a chain - one hole follows another around the moor. You can seldom see any hole except the one you are playing, which means the course lacks conventional definition and is visually unattractive. Anti sheep fences around the greens and plenty of sheep droppings (although we saw no sheep!)

Worth the drive

Drove up from Burnley which give or take is 2 hours but what a well worth visit,

Golf in its rawest form, course is brilliant, the rough doesn’t look to punishing unless you are quiet off line which happened a couple of times, greens in unbelievable condition, weather was good, views are out of this world.

Just go and play here it’s that simple,

If you don’t want to drive as far and your Burnley bases or round that area go try Baildon it’s something similar

Highly recommended

Very good course, fairways and greens in superb condition considering how much rain previous days and other local clubs shut.

No par 5’s makes it an interesting challenge, some blind tee shots and great holes.

Little gem

Great course and bone dry. Some great holes but personal preference I’d prefer a bigger par course. A tricky course to play for the first time with regular blind shots. Friendly staff, great speed of play and a very welcoming club house.

Very limited pro shop and practice facilities but there is a small chipping area and putting green. All in all excited to come back for a round with a bit more course knowledge.

Excellent moorland course

I can see there are some negative reviews on here regarding the sheep, but that's typical of moorland courses and just adds to the charm. All greens were surrounded by electric fences, so no sheep poo there, I didn't notice that much anyway and you get relief from it. Course in good condition and very playable compared to others after a lot of wet weather. Excellent layout with all holes well separated from each other, stunning views of the surrounding area. The General Manager was very welcoming and helpful

Appleby FARM Course

I’m not usually one to write reviews as it could bring unwanted publicity.

But paying £100 for a 3 ball to knock round a farm is ridiculous. Sheep poo all over fairways, only thing protected was the greens.

Granted they’ve been spiked and sanded.

But the price is mental. !!!
