Lack of courtesy ruins this course
Let me start by saying the course itself is in great condition and once the work is finished will look even better but the main issue as it always has been is really slow play and the older members not letting people through.
At one point in the round there were 5 groups on one par 5 because the group in front were so slow. I saw a Marshall out on the course but he was only interested in hassling the none members whereas he seemed to leave his mates alone. I actually skipped 2 holes just to get passed them otherwise I would have been looking at a 6 hour round.
Don't play here unless you can play really early in the morning or have 6 hours to spare stuck behind a group of seniors that can't hit further than 100 yards.
Great course
Had a great round at barlaston, the staff were extremely friendly and the course is a real gem!
First class day
Booked late the night before, pace of play was ok for first 3 hole, after night a 2 ball in a buggy behind is constantly teed off before we took our second shots, we waited on a four ball that delayed us and could not take our shots until the green was clear.
The two ball didn’t adhere to dress code, and I was surprised they could continue.
One shot actually just missed playing partners head by a fraction of an inch..
Apart from that the course itself was ideal, condition of the bunkers I wasn’t happy with, very hard sand and didn’t look like new sand had been added for quite some time,
Having new wedges didn’t give me confidence to play out of them on the 3 I ended up in, I took dropped shots rather than damage my new clubs
Only thing on the course itself that spoilt the day.
Barlaston's stunning golf course.
This may be a short golf course for some big hitters, but accuracy is key to success on this course. A splendid afternoon was spent navigating this well laid out course that was in such good condition. Wonderful setting only spoilt by my golf shots, but generally a great golf club, very friendly staff, and a welcome that was much appreciated. highly recommended.
A Challenge
What a gem of a course! Not the longest but you will need to plot your way around this course especially the front 9. All in all a very good challenge, friendly pro shop with a good choice of equipment, would definitely play again and recommend to friends, just don’t forget to tell them to make sure they have plenty of golf balls in the bag as if you are not accurate you may end up finding you need those spare balls in the bag. Gray course and excellent value for money.
Great value, well kept course
Really good value, and in great condition. Green keepers all very friendly as you pass them. Only downside, which was probably my own fault, was that I booked to tee off at 7.20am which was before the shop opened, so didn’t get a scorecard or to take a look at the clubhouse/shop. Would definitely play again.
A very wet course
Unfortunately the course was very busy, day before lockdown 2 didn't help and the tees were mats, which gives some idea of how wet the course is.
The greens had been hollow tined, I think a month too late, as they were very un even ad some were probably not fit to play.
However the course has some very testing holes and the weather was great.
