Interesting course
Very interesting course. Great weather. Pace of play slow as we were behind a golf society but no problem as we were happy enjoying the scenery and the weather. Only grumble was that we were unable to have a snack in the bar afterwards as the kitchen was closed. Otherwise a very enjoyable day.
A great mix of holes.
It looks easy from the carpark - not a tree in sight, doesn't appear to be on hilly ground, wind steady from the west - then you start playing and notice from the 1st tee that the distant green appears a long way below you, there are several long par 4s, and a par 3 that must be a 100ft below the tee, and now the wind has changed.
Superb fairways but you've got to hit them cos you could hide a full grown Moose in some of the rough.
Greens in amazing condition, and good signage so it's easy to work your way round. Amazing views of the Lake District and you will be walking in the footsteps of giants as some of the best ever golfers have played here, including Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Gary Player to name but a few.
Didn't get chance to sample the clubhouse / food or bar but hopefully next time.
When I asked where the chipping area and practice putting green was, staff in the pros shop actually walked me round to it and gave a few tips on the way. Superb.
Would love to play again.
1st Visit
This was my first visit to Blackpool NSGC and it won’t be my last.
Booked the course expecting all the normal tees and greens to be in play with it being a sand based but we found a few temporary greens and tees.
The course held a fair bit of water and it was sodden underfoot which couldn’t be helped with the recent weather.
The course has the makings good course for a casual player as it’s very open and forgiving.
I can see a lot of potential in this course and although I wouldn’t want to be member I’d like to play it in summer when it’s dry, full length and all greens are in play.
A day in the wind
Really enjoyed the 11 holes that were open on a very wet day!
Superb course, will defo play again in summer.
Enjoyable round but part closed
Second time here, enjoyable course and generally good condition.
Disappointed to walk off first green to find sign saying holes 2-5 were not in play, would have been nice to know this when booking or upon arrival. Will come back again in future.
Nice course - at snails pace.
I played the course on a sunny October day. My first visit, the very helpful chap in the pro shop gave me a quick guide to where everything was. There is a practice net, a short game area and a putting green: the toilets are conveniently situated at the back of the clubhouse and accessible before you tee off at the 10th.
The course layout was easy to follow and the course was in good condition. There is as a bit of run on the fairways, if you managed to find them and there was enough variety of downhill, uphill and flat to keep you interested. The greens were true and consistent- I enjoyed putting on them.
However, the one major negative was the pace of play, I had a two ball in front of me and another two ball in front of them: the front pair obviously didn’t have a clue about course etiquette and spent the whole round taking several drives off every tee, leaving their bags/trolley in front of the green (which they had to retrieve after putting) and just not having any clue about what they were doing or having any awareness of their speed of play or how it affected everyone behind them. I enjoyed the course but not the experience: I would recommend playing here if you are in the area: but check to see how busy it is first!!
An enjoyable afternoon.
Played here for the first time on a lovely sunny late September afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. Checked in at the pro shop and the staff member was very helpful in explaining everything I needed to know. Turned up as a single golfer with the missus in tow for the walk, I joined up with a two ball behind me as it was a busy day and I thought I’d spend the afternoon waiting on every shot. Standing on the first tee the course just looks so wide open and invites you to tee it up and lash one down there. The course was in good condition overall, with pretty fair rough. The greens had been tined a few days beforehand and so consequently they were a little bumpy. Glad I joined up with my playing partners as there are a few blind shots and they helped giving me a heads up on the lines etc. Played ropey on the front nine but bucked up on the back nine and managed a birdie and few pars. Got a good deal on the green fees @ £21. Would like to play again now I have an idea of the course layout. One thing is because the course is so wide open the sense of distance perception I found difficult and it also made the greens look small. But that’s just me?
Holiday golf
Decided to play this local course while holidaying in Blackpool.
Looked quite flat and lacking character on first appearance
Soon realised how wrong I was.
large greens playing well and some great signature holes
Made it a really enjoyable day
Course in good condition, good facilities and made welcome in the pro shop .
looking forward to playing again.
