Stanley
Greens good fairways excellent, great course played before but just gets better
Quiet Round
Lovely morning of golf, not too busy, course in good nick for time of year. Well worth the money
Used to be a great course
Used to be a great course but last two years it's been run down not enough money spent to its upkeep resulting in very poor drainage. played on Saturday after a week of dry weather and warmer temps in 60s and it was still very wet and muddy and boggy with ball plugging many times.
Stanley Park
Poor Pace of play was 6 hours for 18 holes. Every hole had issues with flooding with balls plugging in each fairway.. Should have been limited to groups of 2 to help pace of play.
Still boggy
I've played Stanley park loads. It's my local course. It is just a cheap pay and play. I like playing it , it's just looked after very well. Some holes were unplayable and a lot of balls were plugging
Not to bad!!!!
Had a round very early in the morning, course looked in good condition, but had a lot of plugged balls fairways played very slow and if you shoot into the rough your looking for a plugged ball, overall value for money was great though, might be worth getting a later tee off in a hot summers day!
Needs more drainage
Too wet under foot. Couldn’t find balls on the fairway too plugged. Nice course otherwise. Probably wait till it properly dries out before playing again
Such a shame
Unfortunately the course was under water in places, some of the fairways were almost unnnavigable.I expect the very wet conditions were the reason the greens were really quite long and the rough unforgiving. We were constantly losing balls on the fairway and light rough due to them plugging and disappearing. Hope that was the reason and not because the course is being turned into a nine holer and no money is being spent on it before that happens ?
Good to be back
Due to weather it was very wet under foot. They have done the best they can considering.
Will be a massive loss to the community when it reduces down to 9 holes!
Should have been closed
Due to heavy rain over the weekend, I called ahead just to make sure the coarse was closed to get a refund from Golfpass, however I was told by the lady who answered the coarse was fine to play and all 18 joles were open. I had heard during the day people were walking off sue to the state of the coarse , and when I go there I could see for myself it was horrendous in terms of the amount of standing water on the fairways and the mud everywhere.
Horrendous.
We were expecting the conditions to be wet after quite a lot of rain in the days leading up. On arrival we were informed that half of the course was waterlogged and so only the park side holes were open. Maybe they should have closed the whole course as it was virtually unplayable. Very difficult to keep your feet whilst playing a shot and difficult enough just walking. The bunkers were full of water with some being quite deep.
All that said it was only £10. I have played here many times in the past but never had to contend with those conditions. I will be back but will probably be a 'summertime ' only course for me.
Avoid like the plague
Fair play to the staff for changing my tee time as I booked for Saturday instead of Friday but that's where the pleasentries end. Course shouldn't be open, played 3 holes and walked off, it was like walking through the somme battlefield and that course will not be playable for a long time
Enjoyable....
This course was enjoyable to play - variable undulations and sizes of greens to test any golfer.
There has been a few reviews that mention drainage / wet fairways - but please bear in mind that earlier this month (October) it was the wettest rainiest day since records began - enough to fill Loch Ness from empty to full in one day, and that's the biggest Loch on the UK - so please give the green keepers a fighting chance. They were all over the course the day I played.
I was playing as a solo golfer and x3 four balls let me through which was great.
Staff were extremely helpful.
Practice nets were shut. Putting green matched course conditions. Chipping area was in my opinion very poor (20 X 40 meters right next to the first tee).
Would I go again. Yes.
It's a cheap round of golf with some challenging shots.
Waterlogged
Awful course clearly hasn’t got enough staff, water logged. Really poor.
Stanley park
For what we paid £10 this was a real steal. Greens were slow and some holes wet but rain had been torrential during previous few days.
Course layout great with some great holes.
Try it.
