Such a shame!
There is a great course here, but unfortunately it is under lots and lots of grass! Whether that be overgrown, or just the piles of grass cuttings left.
Be prepared to lose a lot of balls!!! And that’s on the fairway too!
Played a few times over the last year and it has steadily got worse each time. With some TLC would be a great course to play , with some interesting and challenging holes. But unfortunately it just seems to be neglected, and in its current condition isn’t even worth £10 a round, let alone the £20+ charged on a weekend.
Praying something is done to improve the condition, as being a local would play here almost every week. But until then, much rather drive 20-30 miles to the many many courses that are looked after.
Course is in poor condition, in urgent need of attention
Grass clippings need to be collected, especially on the fairways. Grass has been allowed to grow too long on several fairways, bunkers are rock hard. Course has deteriorated dramatically from previous years.
Terrible Golf Course
The maintenance is extremely poor. There is long grass everywhere, even in the fairway. Indeed there is almost no fairway for a number of holes so we are forced to skip those holes.
One of the reasons for the poor condition of the course is because they use robots to trim the grass. The problem is that the trimed grass are left on the course so they stack up like a couple of feet thick Whenever the ball land on these grass pile, which cover almost the whole course except the Tee and the green area, you can never find the ball. So, you will keep on losing balls for almost every hole, and even if you are lucky to find the ball, you will spend most of the time in looking for balls instead of playing golf.
Buy a lawnmower
£15 - Bargain I thought when booking. The course has a decent layout with some interesting holes, but there’s a desperate need for sand in the bunkers and the course needs mowing literally everywhere. There’s were daisies on the first tee which set the scene. The first cut was so deep it was very difficult to find a ball but the greens weren’t too bad, would be even better with some care & attention. There’s obviously greenkeeper activity as there was piles of grass cuttings everywhere and hundreds of new trees planted. If some more effort was put in it could be decent but for now it’s poor mainly due to the length on the grass on tees, fairways and in in particular the rough.
Are there greenkeepers?
The member of staff in the shop was really friendly, the shop is well stocked for your needs.
The course condition was awful, tee box grass far too long, semi rough still had grass cuttings on, greens has daises and dandelions growing in them along with lots of worm casts. It was not worth the £18 considering the amount of balls we lost in the 1st cut of the rough due to the grass cuttings.
What a disappointment
I should have realised that something was wrong when we drover into the car park just after lunch on a Sunday afternoon and it was completely empty. I went into the pro shop to see if the course was open, the young lad said it was except the bunkers had no sand in them and the rough was very rough!
We had travelled a long way and paid up front on a Hot Deal so though we would give it a go, BIG MISTAKE!
The tee boxes were tatty, the grass on the fairways was far too long with huge clumps of dead grass everywhere,, the first cut was so long if a ball landed in it, it was at best unplayable at worst lost! This was made even worse by the extremely long carry from the tees to the fairway, you had to be a very big hitter to ever get close.
After hacking our way round 9 holes we went to the club house to use the toilets, to our dismay it was all shut up with no one in sight, even the toilet were locked which was very frustrating as one of our 3 ball was a lady!
We returned to the course but only managed a couple more holes before calling it a day, in the entire time we were there I never saw another person!
This golf course is a joke and as you can imagine I'll never play it again or recommend anyone else to waste there money!!!
bad condition
played at this course lots of times in the past but this was in the worst condition .bunkers were a joke no sand and weeds growing .lost several balls on fairway due to grass cuttings not being picked up and this was on every hole .only played 9 holes instead of 18 because of condition . when we finished there was nowhere to get a drink or something to eat as everything was shut. as it is would not recommend this to anyone
What’s going on
Played here a few times always in decent condition.
Virtually unplayable.
Lots of long poorly cut grass.
Bunkers are a joke
Only thing cut half decent was the fairways.
Shame really use to be a nice little course
Needs sorting
Course is in very poor condition fairways are narrow and just about OK. Greens are in a bad state and the grass away from the fairways are 6 to 8inch long grass
Don't waste your money
Not sure if this course has been taken over by new owners but it was awful. Bunkers were not in play as they were full of weeds. Fairways had been cut but the grass cuttings were everywhere. Some fairways had been left to grow to about a foot deep 40 yards from the green, others were left to grow about 200 yards from the tee box. Even the fairways that had been cut had large tufts of grass growing on them. If you happen to hit a stray ball off the fairway then it is most probably lost in knee high thick grass. The greens were OK to putt on but were full of weeds. It just looks as if the course has been totally neglected for the last 6 months. We walked off after 9 holes which took us just over two and a half hours, most of which was looking for balls. It's a shame as this used to be a decent local course for us. We will not be going back unless we see reports of significant improvements.
This course is not looked after
The course shouldn’t be open! It hasn’t been looked after, everywhere including the fairway was overgrown.
Bunkers unplayable.
I know £15 is not expensive but they shouldn’t be charging or allowing play on it in its current state.
I played probably 5 years ago and it was nice
Waste of money and time, shouldn't be open
Can't believe they were even open to be honest, I've played here before but it's really not in a playable condition at the minute.
I've never played somewhere before where you can lose a ball dead center of the fairway but as you'll see in the images attached the fairway was 6 inches long in some spots.
Had there been someone in the shop I'd have asked for a refund as we had to walk off after 4/5 holes.
It's a real shame as the course used to be lovely, I really hope they manage to sort it out.
Course conditions
Was not informed when booking that most members are not playing the course because the rough was bad
The course rough was not just off the fairway but the first cut around g to be greens you still lost a ball
Played in a 4 ball must have lost 20 balks between us
Disgraceful
Got there in time for 150 tee time. Paid for full 18 holes yet only managed to play 9 due to the state of the course. We ended up losing approximately 20 balls between us. It's bad when you hit a fairway and lose balls on said fairways. The rough was appalling. The only way you can find your ball is by standing on it. 9th green had divots at the back
Avoid this course , PLAY ELSEWHERE
This has to be the worse course I’ve ever played , so I arrived at 3pm on a Friday on a glorious 24 degrees . To which the car park was empty and the pro shop and club house was closed . Which speaks absolute volumes . It should have been packed on a day like today . When you arrived at the first tee it doesn’t look that bad (famous last words) but as you get to the 2nd that’s where the fun starts .
The fairways which I can only describe as Sunday league football pitches covered in hay are cut in to about 20-30 yards wide and if you miss these you’ll be in a jungle also known as rough which is nearly knee length in places , when you manage to find the rough your balls gone . Then when you drop your next ball and land on the greens you’ll see where a lot of turf has been removed by wildlife (these greens are still open to play ) . I can’t even describe how bad this course is compared to how it’s been in the past . I understand we’ve had bad weather but so has everyone else and this course makes others look like Augusta national . I’d listen to the reviews and avoid , your not getting a bargain at £15 per round , pay the extra and play elsewhere. This was £15 wasted as I couldn’t wait to leave . If you do chose to go against the reviews and play , make sure you take plenty of balls . As you will probably need them
Avoid!!
First time playing today. Attracted by the low prices, but after playing I now understand why. First hole is spotless (assume this is because it’s the only hole you can see from the clubhouse!) and then it’s only downhill from there. Fairways are like a summers rough, and roughs are beyond unplayable. Greens have flowers and weeds growing through. Ended up walking off after 14.
Disappointing!
Played Boothferry a few times now, each time it gets worse and worse, but this time it was like playing in a wild field! The fairways hadn’t been cut for sometime which meant we were constantly searching for balls! Greens were crated, bunkers were like concrete, felt sorry for the young lad in the shop as he must’ve taken some flack from people complaining.
I wouldn’t play again there even if they paid me!
Such a shame as it could be a really nice course with a good clubhouse.
