Don't waste your money
Not sure if this course has been taken over by new owners but it was awful. Bunkers were not in play as they were full of weeds. Fairways had been cut but the grass cuttings were everywhere. Some fairways had been left to grow to about a foot deep 40 yards from the green, others were left to grow about 200 yards from the tee box. Even the fairways that had been cut had large tufts of grass growing on them. If you happen to hit a stray ball off the fairway then it is most probably lost in knee high thick grass. The greens were OK to putt on but were full of weeds. It just looks as if the course has been totally neglected for the last 6 months. We walked off after 9 holes which took us just over two and a half hours, most of which was looking for balls. It's a shame as this used to be a decent local course for us. We will not be going back unless we see reports of significant improvements.
This course is not looked after
The course shouldn’t be open! It hasn’t been looked after, everywhere including the fairway was overgrown.
Bunkers unplayable.
I know £15 is not expensive but they shouldn’t be charging or allowing play on it in its current state.
I played probably 5 years ago and it was nice
Waste of money and time, shouldn't be open
Can't believe they were even open to be honest, I've played here before but it's really not in a playable condition at the minute.
I've never played somewhere before where you can lose a ball dead center of the fairway but as you'll see in the images attached the fairway was 6 inches long in some spots.
Had there been someone in the shop I'd have asked for a refund as we had to walk off after 4/5 holes.
It's a real shame as the course used to be lovely, I really hope they manage to sort it out.
Course conditions
Was not informed when booking that most members are not playing the course because the rough was bad
The course rough was not just off the fairway but the first cut around g to be greens you still lost a ball
Played in a 4 ball must have lost 20 balks between us
Disgraceful
Got there in time for 150 tee time. Paid for full 18 holes yet only managed to play 9 due to the state of the course. We ended up losing approximately 20 balls between us. It's bad when you hit a fairway and lose balls on said fairways. The rough was appalling. The only way you can find your ball is by standing on it. 9th green had divots at the back
Avoid this course , PLAY ELSEWHERE
This has to be the worse course I’ve ever played , so I arrived at 3pm on a Friday on a glorious 24 degrees . To which the car park was empty and the pro shop and club house was closed . Which speaks absolute volumes . It should have been packed on a day like today . When you arrived at the first tee it doesn’t look that bad (famous last words) but as you get to the 2nd that’s where the fun starts .
The fairways which I can only describe as Sunday league football pitches covered in hay are cut in to about 20-30 yards wide and if you miss these you’ll be in a jungle also known as rough which is nearly knee length in places , when you manage to find the rough your balls gone . Then when you drop your next ball and land on the greens you’ll see where a lot of turf has been removed by wildlife (these greens are still open to play ) . I can’t even describe how bad this course is compared to how it’s been in the past . I understand we’ve had bad weather but so has everyone else and this course makes others look like Augusta national . I’d listen to the reviews and avoid , your not getting a bargain at £15 per round , pay the extra and play elsewhere. This was £15 wasted as I couldn’t wait to leave . If you do chose to go against the reviews and play , make sure you take plenty of balls . As you will probably need them
Avoid!!
First time playing today. Attracted by the low prices, but after playing I now understand why. First hole is spotless (assume this is because it’s the only hole you can see from the clubhouse!) and then it’s only downhill from there. Fairways are like a summers rough, and roughs are beyond unplayable. Greens have flowers and weeds growing through. Ended up walking off after 14.
Disappointing!
Played Boothferry a few times now, each time it gets worse and worse, but this time it was like playing in a wild field! The fairways hadn’t been cut for sometime which meant we were constantly searching for balls! Greens were crated, bunkers were like concrete, felt sorry for the young lad in the shop as he must’ve taken some flack from people complaining.
I wouldn’t play again there even if they paid me!
Such a shame as it could be a really nice course with a good clubhouse.
SHOULD NOT BE OPEN - PLEASE AVOID UNTIL SUMMER
Played here lots of times over the past few years and never seen the course in such bad condition, 80% of fairways were a as long as summer rough, the rough was impossible. Balls also plugged everywhere, really not sure why the course was open.
The image below is a fairway, and was the second shot.
Leave it alone till summer
Hard to be too critical as we all keep trying to play even though we know the courses are still drenched. However, this is the worst I’ve seen. The fairways were more like heavy rough and we lost many a ball in them. Several of the greens had lots of disease on them and looked more like a driving range. The walk between holes was like going through the jungle. We only saw 3 people on the course the entire round so the membership must all know better. The guy in the club shop couldn’t be any less interested in speaking to us and was already closed by the time we got half way round. Charging £15 for a round, granted relatively cheap around these parts, felt a bit of a robbery seeing as how poor the course was. We’ve played this course before and it’s certainly not Augusta but it’s in dramatically bad condition after the winter we’ve had and I’d recommend staying away for quite a while as we really struggled to get any enjoyment out of the round.
Major improvement needed
Played here a few times in previous years and won't be returning anytime soon,I can accept soft fairways and losing balls plugging but I can't accept the state of the greens just utterly poor with at least 5 having major crow damage but no signs of any work on them.Avoid playing here
Fantastic value.
Our second time playing this course, fantastic conditions for winter every hole and green open. Not really anything I can say that’s bad about the course, we played a week earlier and the rough was a little long in places but it had been cut the following week. Very flat course which makes a nice change, will definitely be returning.
Ground staff need a pat on the back to make the course open.
Staff helped us out when at the moment course.
Wet and windy
Long course and I wouldn’t say suitable for short off the tee players, very open and so can get quite windy . Very quiet on both occasions I’ve played in winter so can’t comment on summer.
Tee boxes in good condition, a little boggy in places but that’s the time of year not the courses fault. Greens were ok and the rough was cut well but the very soft so balls plug.
It’s better than the reviews suggest, nice club shop and bar too. It is hard work due to the length especially in winter conditions
Course should be closed
Do not pay to play this course!
The course is absolutely soaked, you are basically playing up to your shins in water.
Fairways as bad as the rough. You either lose a ball in a puddle or it plugs.
£23 to play this course is day light robbery.
We managed to play a few holes and then walked off. Asked for a refund but none forthcoming.
This course is unplayable at this time of year.
Waterlogged
The course was unbelievably wet and question whether it should have been open. We lost something like 20 balls as each drive plugged deep, as did the second shot on the longer holes. Our feet were wet through early on due to deep puddles you needed to walk through to get to the next hole . Understand that it’s difficult for the green keepers to gut the grass at this time of year, but tbe second cut was too long and another reason we lost so many balls. Have played it in summer and it’s a nice course, but I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone after so much rain.
Bad Weather Course Should Be Closed
We have had some bad weather but rang to check and course was open just soft under foot was advised.
This was an understatement the ground was sodden and your feet went below the surface. Soaking wet and the course was unplayable. I gave up after the 9th. This will surely wreck the course and take some time to repair itself.
The course layout looked good and would be a nice course in better conditions.
Feel sorry for the members as keeping it open will effect its fairways over the winter
