very poor
this course is in terrible condition the fairways are non existent the greens are poor working down here so played here instead of going to range about all its good for
Greens ,fairway, tee box
The whole course could be fantastic with abit of TLC
At the moment greens unplayable tee box is solid and fairway doesn’t really be a fairway due to plants and being so hard surface to play on
Serious work needed.
Won't be returning, unless the whole course is improved. Greens are so bad, would be easier putting on the temporary greens. There is hardly any grass on them, and the rest is just mud. Tee boxes are basically just patches of rough. Absolute daylight robbery charging people £20/25.
Course should be closed, subject to repair!
My local common has a better playing surface than this course. I must have lost 3 balls down rabbit holes on the fairway. Greens are the worst I’ve seen. Patchy, no grass, impossible to play. Course should be closed until some serious repair is carried out. Can I have a refund?
Should be closed
The problems they have had with the irrigation have caused the greens to be the worst Iv ever played. They should be closing until they can refurbish. Course layout is really good. Has a lot of potential but needs some money to put into maintenance to bring it Upto standard
Course needs work
I would not recommend this course in its current state. A severe lack of grass on the greens, no definition between fairways and rough as all the grass was dead, rabbit holes across the whole course, bunkers all GUR.
Course layout is good with some great holes, but really let down by the course condition.
Needs improvement, but enjoyable nonetheless
The course is challenging and varied, with lots of elevated greens and trees placed in awkward locations. Golfers are rightly punished for wayward tee-shots, with thick rough and deep bushes waiting to gobble up any loose drives.
The undulating fairways and landscape in general make for pleasant surroundings.
Unfortunately, the course itself is in serious need of some TLC. The greens were completely dead, they were brown with very little grass left on them whatsoever. It was extremely difficult to read putts and judge pace as a result.
Every single bunker on the course was completely overgrown with weeds and therefore out of action. This was a shame - although some might disagree, having bunkers scattered around your target is part of the enjoyment. It would have been nice to have been warned of this prior to paying £20 each to go round.
We had slightly strange experience towards the end of our round; a group of 3 people in a car had made their way onto the course... they were shooting some sort of target/object with a rifle. Not exactly ideal preparation for your next shot, hearing a gunshot go off just 100 or so yards away.
The golf shop staff member was very friendly and helpful, the clubhouse is very welcoming. I will visit again and hope that improvements will have been made to bring it up to its potential.
Needs investment
Could be a very good course if only the spent some money on various things and please just fill in the rabbit holes in the fairways.
Good Value
For the very low price the greens were in really good condition.
Ok it’s not a manicured course, the front nine was very bare due to the hot weather and the course was a bit scruffy in places but I didn’t have massive expectations because of the price.
I would happily play the course again, maybe in spring before the course hardens up.
Intriguing Course
This is a fantastic and varied course. There are some forgiving holes for the beginners but it is also laced with some tricky ones for advanced players. Very good value for money. I would definitely recommend this course to those of all ability levels. Staff in the pro shop and on reception were friendly. The course is well maintained and the rough isn’t too hideous if you shank a shot. Overall this was a very nice way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
Average
Liked the layout it was quite interesting but the course was in quite poor condition. Staff in pro shop ok, not very welcoming in club house and no food available
Great course
Course was in very good condition with only one temporary green. There are a number of attractive holes. Quite a long course for me but mostly generous fairways which make for an enjoyable round. Since my last visit the pro shop and club house have been moved and upgraded to a converted barn.
GREAT COURSE - AND CHALLENGING
First time at Caldecott Hall. Long course (>6,700 yards) with 5 Par 5s which is unusual. Sandy base meant it drained well and virtually no slushiness at all which was welcome. My only criticism is the info on the scorecard. I could have done with a course map (showing which way to go next) as not all the next tees were clearly signposted. And one significant hazard (a steep gulley halfway down the 14th which we all thankfully avoided) wasn't marked on the scorecard - though there were yellow posts - so could have caused problems. But a great day nonetheless. We'll be back!
Long distance
Due to the recent long dry spell, the fairways where a little hard, the ball travelled a long way, even from not the best hit shot. Greens much better, even a little slower than expected. Made for interesting round. We will return.
A nice open long course
We played just after work in a pleasant late Summer evening and enjoyed this long course. Upon arrival it was not very clear where to head and after locating the pro shop and finding it shut, the instructions sent me to the bar where I had to show my email with the booking reference. Then it was off to the first tee which we should have asked after as it also was not very obvious - we guessed our route down a gravel path and finally arrived at the first tee. From there we had a pleasant round of golf, a few power lines overhead but the open gorsey course is nice on the eye. The fairways are ok, a few holes, and the greens were slow and a little blotchy but given the courses location then that should almost be expected. We'll be back for sure.
