An enjoyable afternoon
Decided to play here as staying in Durham on business overnight.
A really enjoyable afternoon- course split into three sections first and second great but last section 12ish to 18 a bit duller.
As a single player I quickly caught up with the four balls teeing off 40 minutes before me, even though they had a golf cart .. but played two holes twice and this allowed me prevent waiting
Would definitely recommend this course, it’s also great value for money
Greens very good
The greens were in excellent condition. The fairways and the tee boxes could do with some work, but it has been a very dry summer.
Great course, great greens
Really good course with a nice layout. Greens in fantastic condition, far better than many at the moment with the hot dry weather over recent weeks.
Nice course but stymied by location
We hadn't played CLS for some years and the reasons for our long absence slowly dawned on us as we went round the course - the front 9 were in good order and were enjoyable to play with the back 9 a bit of a chore due to extremely variable greens with some running silly fast and others very slow & not true (it's worth noting that this might just have been a one off problem on the day). However, the most significant issues are that the North end of the course is sandwiched between the A1 motorway and a major sewage works and the South end is adjacent to another main road and near to the Riverside sports ground which was hosting a quite noisy event during our round - also when we retired to the 19th hole we were charged nearly £20 for 4 No. drinks which was a bit excessive - all in all not the best experience.
Most enjoyable round
Had a wonderful round playing with an old friend - Chester-le-Street was a meet in the middle. First time I've played this course. Very friendly welcome in pro shop and in the bar (bacon rolls were outstanding). Course in great condition - greens very fast and true. Fairways nice and wide and semi rough was playable. There are one or two interesting hills which make couple of the up hill holes tricky - but also means that there is the opportunity for some lovely downhill holes. A number of holes include fairway bunkers at just about my range of drive, but that added to the fun. The holes at the riverside had quite a lot of flies - so suggest wearing long trousers rather than shorts. Great day on a great course and I look forward to coming back for another round soon. Happy to recommend.
Great layout though strategically placed bunkers
Really nice friendly staff. Course layout great though not manicured like the bigger courses, though the greens really good.
Great value and friendly staff
Made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived at the course. From players coming off the course to the staff checking our tee off time .
Nice course though we only managed 11 due to one of us being 91 yers of age (and still insists on walking!)
Challenging long par 4s for myself but if your a big hitter there will be no problem!
Though i did birdie the 1st!
Would definitely recommend others to play this course .
Rough just of the fairway not to severe and easy to play off .
Greens were fast though looked slow .
Thankyou to everyone at Chester le st club
Only issue was tee times feel close together, the time booked behind us had decided to tee off before our time then wait for us to reach the tee box before having us tell them to go as they were a smaller group. Every group behind then seemed out of sync
Nice course, some lovely views, some steep hills
Reliably well-kept, always a good round
The course is enjoyable although not particularly challenging. The last few holes can be a drag - mostly straight and unremarkable par 4s, with few hazards to consider.
The course is well kept, especially given the weather, and it was very nice not to have to use mats in the fairways!
Not the best
I booked with the golf now app, price was £30 each which I didn’t mind until I got there, on arriving at the pro shop we were informed only 6 holes would be in play but we could go round twice, it was very disappointing and no mention of this before booking, the course was in a terrible condition but understandable given the rain we have had. We did talk to a member on the way round and he asked how much we paid and was shocked when told the price, he also said it’s usually £25 for 18 holes in the summer so now I feel really ripped off,
It’s probably lovely in the summer like most courses, I just think if there is restrictions in play you should be told prior to payment or a reduction in cost at the very least.
Wet
Course very wet lots of muddy areas greens recently recieving annual maintenance so very uneven and bumpy. No mention of state of course before play. A few holes that overlap the only positives were it has nice views.
Nice course
A really nice course , in great condition with pretty quick greens , well recommended .
Good considering bad weather
Played Chester-Le-Street a number of times, always a nice course to play. Played especially well considering the bad spell of weather experienced over the last month. Only downfall was the sign to signify the different order of the 2nd and 3rd hole wasn’t massively noticeable meaning me and my playing partner missed it. Members were helpful and friendly in letting us know and allowing us to play ahead when we caught them up because of it. One temporary green out of 18 again not bad considering the weather lately. Overall good experience
Chester-le-Quick
Quick greens and quick witted members, they'll let you know that tees have priority even when your not on the nearby green yet. Pace of play signs are laughable, some beginners will lose balls on the fairway rough looking for them, maybe cut it more if people are playing slow.
DON'T BELIEVE RECENT REVIEWS
Excellent course - greens in excellent condition. Challenging, interesting, varied course. Members very welcoming and warm. Beautiful setting under the castle. Would 100% play again.
Essentially the opposite of recent reviews on here. Highly recommend this course - from a first time visitor.
Terrible course. AVOID
Rude members and rude staff are just the tip of the iceberg for this course. Greens are the worst in the area. Rough is as unkept as the fairways.
I’m a member that can’t cancel and get a refund which is a crying shame. Shouted at and sworn at by two groups of golfers in the same round. Unfriendly and would not recommend to anyone in the area.
