Quietly hidden gem
Really pleased with this course. Very well priced considering how good this course is. Greens are in great condition and they played extremely well despite a little sun-scorched spots here and there. A couple of fairways have had drainage installed recently but this doesn't affect play as there are no lie penalties if caught up and aesthetic affects are minimal. We had help from a pro who joined our twosome at our request when he offered and thoroughly enjoyed his local knowledge and company. Some technical holes and some great views. Not particularly long either and it was certainly an enjoyable few hours finishing with a pint in the clubhouse. Driving range and practice greens available too. Very friendly staff with an old-schiol feel to the clubhouse yet a modern aproach to the academy and proshop.
We will be back.
Excellent challenging course
Arrived at the course with good parking and was greeted by a friendly man in the clubhouse who gave me a scorecard and I cheekily asked for a pencil that he thankfully obliged with
Due to the very dry weather the course needed water but played very well
I would definitely return and recommend the course to others.
Great course
Bit of drainage work on going which I know will improve the course long term.
Very tricky course but a great one.
Greens were cracking
Great Course
As a high handicapper with a bit of a slice I struggled at times but that didn’t matter. Course is stunning, locals were friendly and gave our 3 ball plenty of advice. Being relatively new to the game and living in an area where there are a lot of courses close by I like to try different ones. This course will take some beating. Will 100% be back.
Good nik friendly members
Considering all the rain great nik and members who wave you through without asking
Great nik considering
As always spot on and despite heavy rain and hail overnight it was fin
Nice course
My first and only time playing this course and what a course even in the up coming winter months. The layout was ideal and the staff were very friendly and helpful, even members were very friendly helping us navigate the course layout. I will be returning to this course in the summer as it is a beautiful course and the scenery is stunning.
A tale of 2 nines
The course had been closed for 2 days because of all the recent rain , so for it to be open was great. Well done greens staff! It was of course a little boggy in places but the hilliness helped with drainage.
Pro shop was closed ( on a Sunday????) but the lady in the clubhouse was very friendly and helpful.
The front nine felt more parkland and the back nine heathland. It’s a fairly tough test, especially when there’s not much roll through the damp fairways!
Be prepared for the elevation changes especially hole 12. Some of the views at the top of the course are great. I can only imagine how beautiful the course looks in spring and summer.
I would come back in Summer.
South Moor sadly not currently at it's best
Not the best experience - course is currently in need of some general maintenance attention over the winter period - we encountered some greenside areas that should be marked GUR / repaired, some temporary tee boxes and oddly heavy sand in some bunkers which impaired playability. However, the most pressing work that needs carrying out urgently to make the course more playable is trimming back some of the trees - the 16th in particular is very frustrating - our group all got good drives off but every one of us was stymied by overgrown trees blocking the second shot at the dog leg which is very frustrating and didn't make us feel much like playing the course again any time soon which is a shame.
Sandy greens spoiled it.
Nice course and layout. The greens had just been completely covered in sand and this made it pretty impossible to putt properly. If I knew this at point of booking, I’d have booked somewhere else. £30 a man to have greens like that isn’t good unfortunately.
Very enjoyable
Was really looking forward to playing here and so glad l did really enjoyed a good game on a challenging course every hole different , made very welcome on arrival by staff and golf members
