Church Stretton

I originally booked this round for 30th July but when electrical storms were forecast I called the Pro who was extremely helpful and agreed we could move the game a couple of weeks as I was about to go away on holiday.

We arrived to a warm welcome from both the Pro and members and teed off in the sunshine with light winds. I have played here in bad weather and have to say it's not much fun but on a good day there's nowhere better. The views are stunning and the layout is imaginative.

Be prepared to gain some serious altitude over the first 4 holes!

The course is mostly rented from the National Trust so you can expect to see a lot of sheep and ponies but this only adds to the experience.

A short course but it doesn't feel like it and if you're walking you will definitely sleep well after.

We finished off with a drink sitting outside the clubhouse looking out over the valley and the town...it really is a cracking spot.

Walked

One of England's little gems'.

Great day out on a wonderful challenging course. Best views on a course I have ever played, could see for miles on this clear day. Great height attained from Hole 1 to Hole 10, making for some great downhill shots on Back 9. Greens in tip top condition, masses of wildlife around the course and on it (lambs !). Staff very friendly, no snootiness here. Top club, wish I lived closer to play regularly, but will be back soon.

Evening Golf

Played church stretton last night after work - found the greens in fantastic condition, one of the most interesting layouts I've played, a real challenge and an experience - don't be fooled by the short yardage on the score card! Finished the round and was suprised to find still serving food which was great. Everyone very friendly and helpful! Pack a jumper even on a sunny day it gets breezy on the hills! Thanks again.

Superb!

A wonderful course set right on top of the Shropshire hills. Breathtaking views the whole way round, with challenging and interesting holes. The pro, James, is really friendly and the course was quiet so there wasn't much pressure on us. If you're looking for a round in Shropshire, this is without doubt one of the most unique courses in England.

played 6-7 times over 7 years

I haven't played it since joining tee off times , but many times in the past. It is superb and a real challenge but also fair. I often break 90 elsewhere and can go to 80/81 on a good day , and playing well here I'd be looking at 82/3 but it can also swallow you up if you hit the ferns. Very challenging in wind. Best views on any course I've ever played. Greens are always dry due to being on a hill. You can use a trolley but it is an "interesting" experience with one. Starts off with what feel like 3 par 3's but they don't play like it! I love the 18th - feels like the green is 200 foot below , hit a good 7/8 and the ball falls vertically on to the green. Friendly place as well , proper golfers golf course rather than a place to make business deals.
