Difficult course for novices
My stars are relevant to my visit, it is a beautiful scenic course but I found it very difficult as a beginner and it was busy on the day with a lot of more experienced players on the course. There was no course map & I couldn’t find a good one online, not very clear hole directions. One for the professionals I think! Saying that the course itself is in good condition. I still enjoyed the round.
Nice course, scenic, hilly
Decent course, well maintained. Chairman not the friendliest upon arrival but the pro there was welcoming and friendly. Driving range is a field so your own balls are needed and collected again. Nice little putting practice area but not the best for chipping and no practice bunker. The course itself was in good condition, very scenic but it quite hilly so I would recommend a trolley, due to the time of year we had to use these plastic mats to hit off in the fairway, rough etc which I have never experienced before but was ok. Overall it was decent and would go again but won't be rushing back before trying others in the area.
Great course
Fantastic course and I’ll definitely be back playing. Great variance in holes and some fantastic natural obstacles to work around. It was a bit expensive at £30 on a Monday morning at 10am when nobody else was playing there (£30) and the amount of grass cuttings on every hole a little strange, this slowed the ball a lot which was a shame. Also the layout is a bit all over the place and the signs aren’t all that clear.
But very minor complaints on what is a fantastic course.
Challenging back 9, great course
Lovely course that gives you a tree lined front 9 then a open hilly moor course on back 9, like 2 courses. Some very long par 4 holes that are uphill and we had wind in faces so a solid tee shot then a good fairway shot still left us 100 yards from greens . Very enjoyable and will play again
Not the best day to play
Unfortunately the heavens opened on the first green and we had to make cover under a tree for 40 minutes. Would have walked off but had no way to get a refund or credit.
Course is well kept, interesting and challenging.
Signage is poor though, very difficult to see where your next tee shop is from, so layout not the best. Could easily be sorted.
Scorecard also doesn’t have a course map so you are guessing where to play a shot sometimes.
Would be good to know the times of the pro-shops on all courses as had to go in the bar and hunt down the scorecards.
If there a request refund if you can’t finish a round?
New Course
Really enjoyed the course. Lovely views. A bit hilly but worth it for the views.
Amazing Greens
The course is in an amazing condition with great fast true greens. I didn’t like the layout of the course and the tee boxes and scorecard had no pictures of the hole to help people playing the course for first time.
Best course and greens played this season
This was in such brilliant condition greens were equivalent to axeminster carpet
The Greens are superb
Only 15 holes open, playing off matts and no signage to locate the next tee made our visit to Darwen GC difficult with a lot of wasted time wandering around the course! Could be good for Summer golf,
Lovely course
It's a calf burner on some of the holes but catch it on a nice day and you've got some seriously good views. Love the 16th par 3.
It’s what it says on the tin
Incredibly welcoming and friendly staff … we were greeted by the GM !! The ground staff were keen to talk too… Greens are in outstanding condition ….Lots of challenging holes in a spectacular setting….I would imagine in winter it would be even more challenging tho ….It’s a must play if you in the area …
Excellent course
Great course if a little hilly on back nine. View at the top was worth it though. Only one comment, could do with a few more signs to help with the layout and direction to next holes.
Much improved
I played Darwen many times a few years ago. The condition of the course is much improved. Only rated as extremely challenging because of slopes across fairways. Well done ground staff!
Great condition, tough but enjoyable
It was very windy on my visit, but the course was in great condition, the staff were friendly and the members helpful when I couldn't find some of the tee's
