Enjoyable days golf
A very pleasant surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed playing the course and as people have said the greens were in excellent condition. Many interesting holes with the 9th/17th being particularly difficult. Great value for money and everybody I spoke to was incredibly friendly. Played on my own and the pace of play was great. Would definitely return.
11 holes?
11 hole golf course yet you pay for 18 holes, no pro shop, no staff excluding the grounds man. Very confusing course lay out. Would not recommend, not for me
Misleading
First and foremost: GolfNow erroneously lists this as an 18 hole course - it is not! It is a 9 hole course that you play around twice; albeit with a few variations (two “fourth” greens/a few different tee boxes/a unique ‘pitch and putt’ 115yd 18th) that fail to make that much of a difference to even come close to justifying this is an 18 hole course.
Before you start your round, be aware that there is no proshop or formal greeting, you simply pick up a scorecard from the conservatory porch and walk across the bridge over the motorway to the first/tenth tee complex and begin the round. You’ll need to make sure you arrive fully prepared; my friend wanted a new glove and some drinks for the round but had to make do without.
The course is well presented and the tees, fairways and greens are all well maintained. The greens aren’t as exceptional as they make out, but there are no notable complaints about them either - good coverage, good drainage, well treated and roll reasonably true and at a fair pace for the undulations of the land. The bunkers however were not at all well maintained, but this is down to other players (members?!) not bothering to rake after themselves which is a matter of courtesy and not the club’s responsibility.
After our round, the clubhouse bar staff seemed intent on closing up (17:45 PM) and reluctantly agreed to sell two cokes before our journey home.
Overall the course is cheap and cheerful - the members in the car park were friendly, the holes are interesting, the condition is good overall and the price point is spot on. It’s a good place to play golf and, but for the disappointment about it not being an 18 hole course, there really is little to be genuinely upset by.
I’m glad to have played the course, which we saw when playing neighbouring Accrington a few weeks prior, but agreed we would see no reason to return. If in the area, we would recommend Darwen and Burnley, then Accrington, above Rishton. However, all of those courses come in at a higher price, and it depends how much emphasis the individual places upon variation of holes within a round of 18…
Don’t let this review put you off playing Rishton, it is intended to inform you of what to expect if you, like us, book through GolfNow. If you only have time for 9 holes, this is a perfect choice.
Rishton G C
My usual golfing buddies were unavailable this week so I took myself off for some solo golf to a new venue, Rishton.
This is a ten hole course, twice round but only playing two holes once, most holes have separate tee boxes.
Rishton is an unusual course in that there is the clubhouse and one hole (the eighteenth) and then the rest of the course is accessed over a bridge over the M65. I wonder how it was before the motorway was built?
The club prides itself on having the best greens in East Lancashire and I can't argue with that claim although I would say they are a little slow. The tee boxes and fairways are also in good condition.
For a Tuesday lunchtime start there was hardly anyone on the course and finishing at 15.45 mine was the last car on the car park, it did rain shortly afterwards though.
The only downside to my visit was that the clubhouse was closed after my round.
Green fees seem to be on an honesty box arrangement unless you have paid online. I never saw any evidence of a pro shop.
Would I return? Certainly.
Great course and great value
We recently played here and it is absolutely great value for money £20 for 18 holes. The course layout is great and some really good holes. Although the course did seem to struggle with quite a downpour of rain

The course was challenging but in great condition in every aspect
Greens were first class and quick considering the weather. The course layout was good and the difference in tee positions and holes on the back nine made it seem a different course
One of the best nine hole courses I have ever played

Great course, greens in very good condition, will definitely play here again.
Surprisingly good!
Booked this one not expecting much for the £15 price tag. I was pleasantly surprised to find it an interesting course in good condition. The greens in particular were much better than expected. My only gripe was that once again I used the 18 hole filter and found this to be a nine hole course (11 holes actually) with 18 different tee boxes.
Will definitely play again as our round was spoiled by the weather.
Nice up and down 9 holer
Camber is off-putting on some holes due to it being hillside but a great Nine holer with some interesting holes.

Cracking 9 hole course with a twist at the end (last hole). Can’t wait to return in the summer

Played the course as a junior over a decade ago, lovely to see how the course has developed, the 18th is a brilliant edition! The 9th/17th is still as challenging as ever for the high handicapper. Playing a mixture of winter and summer greens was rather a strange feeling, will definitely be trying to get a round during the summer months again to play that 1st/10th green. Clubhouse was not open but personally loved seeing the memorial benches and taking a minute to reflect on people I did once know. A damp day but still left with a smile on my face!
Played 2nd January have played here before in summer and nice 9 hole course however due to a lot of rain it wasn’t really playable.all winter greens and very wet.tried to ring course and couldn’t get through to find out if it was open with no answer.probably wouldn’t have travelled and played if known the circumstances as we were the only ones on the course.was also told by a couple of members that they had been on winter greens since end of November think golf now should be aware of these things and should inform there members
