Just love it
Love the course, which is always well kept. Greens run true.
My favourite course near Andover. Love the bacon baps at halfway.
A great challenge
A long challenge
Holding up great in this weather
Plenty of feature on the green
Great course for the time of year
Front 9 was in amazing condition and really great feel to it considering the time of year. Back 9 was a little boggy but expected and were advised so. Lovely course and done great holes.
Great course only drawback is long walk between holes 1-2,8-9,9-10 and 18 back to club house
Disappointing day
This is a challenging and well thought-out course. I'd played it twice before and enjoyed it. On this Sunday afternoon, however, it took five hours for a two-ball with buggy. Somone informed the proshop that two or three four-balls were playing desperately slowly but only "had a chat with them" and failed to speed them up at all. All very frustrating. The three-ball in front were slaughtering the course and spent more time waiting on the tee than playing the hole.
The buggy cost £30 which the pro said was "good value". I typically pay £15-25. The buggy itself is GPS-programmed and spent the entire round bossing us about because we had the temerity to go 'near' a bunker or green (and 'near' was in no way 'near'). On the third hole it insisted I leave the fairway; I went to the path on the left; when I arrived 'near' the green (389 yards) and putted out I had to return 200 yards and somehow cross the fairway to get to the next tee.
I doubt very much that we'll go back there.
Over 5 hours for a round
Played today with my sons really looking forward to it. However stuck behind a society, some had never played before. 2nd hole guy took 4 shots to reach fairway. They never let us play through hence over 5 hours. Groups behind where stacking up and some walked off.
Fully understand they need business but marshalling would have helped.
Please avoid this course if they are not going to Marshall it properly. What turned out to be the longest round ever.
Get your act together Donnington Gove golf course.
Lovely first visit
First time I've played Donnington Grove...
The signage could have been a little better, as there are some walks between holes but all-in-all, I loved it. It was quiet, but the layout meant I barely noticed other golfers on the course.
All of the holes were different, presenting different challenges. If I'd known the holes a little better, I'd surely have plotted my way around a little more.
Course looked well kept - still some fairways a little parched but considering the record summer, I thought it wasnt' too bad. (staff did say it had been worse)
Greens were excellent, receptive but still quick.
Loved the course and will definitely play again.
Value
Ok so this ain’t muirfield but..., if you fancy a fun blast around an easy but long course and you only have £13 then there is nowhere better!
Wide fairways, very soft greens and some well placed trees make it fun.
On the downside, the greens are poor, the bunkers dreadful, it’s generally tatty and the toilets jabsolutely wreak!!!
It’s a shame it is not what it once was...,, but was so much fun....., and so so cheap!
If anyone picked up a callaway 1 on the 15th..,,,,
Lovely course but awful conditions
I love this course for it’s interesting holes and great views and the deals on TeeOffTimes are marvellous.
Unfortunately after this visit I am not sure when I will next be back. On the fairways and tees all you got were either small tufts of grass or bare patches. When is there chance now for this to change this season.
Each hole on this course was unique with different challenges
Greens in great shape and interesting layouts, The course was long, fairways wide but with many bunkers, interesting layouts, up and down sweeps. Rough had been knocked back so balls easy to find. There was a fair bit of walking between holes especially between 1 & 2 and 8 & 9. Fairways were parched. Will play this course again when it has 'greened' up again. Will look spectacular.
A jewel in the Berkshire crown
Was this the first time I played this course?
No.............I played yesterday too.
This is a fantastic course with immaculate greens, sand based tees and nice wide fairways that everybody should love. I played on successive days and loved it both times.
What could be.
Lovely looking golf course with many well laid out holes. The condition of the greens generally good if a bit slow. Fairways varied, some very good but a few a bit sparse, not what I would have expected. The rough was quite penal but more frustratingly lots of clover.
Some of the walks between holes are very long, you definitely need a buggy.
I really liked the course but the experience could have been so much better.
Very enjoyable
Played at midday on a Tuesday. Course is long so buggy recommended. Course in excellent condition, greens good. Pace of play good thanks to very courteous members letting us through.
Absolutely no complaints.
Pace of play is so slow, greens are poor!
We had a Sunday afternoon tee time at 2.04. Tees off 20 minutes late due to a queue on the tee. Things did not improve we had to wait at every shot for the groups ahead. At one point 5 groups on the tee of the 8th. The round took 5.5 hours to complete as a 2 ball,.
The greens look like they have been in a drive by shooting. Never seen so many unrelated pitch marks! The 4 ball in front played from
Many bunkers and didn’t take them after they were done. The holes had damaged edges.
Practise facilities were very good, pro shop well stocked and friendly staff. Half way house was great too. An ice cream and an ice cold drink took out mind off the wait on 10!
Won’t be revisiting here any time soon, a lot better value for money available at any other Newbury course.
In to the Grove
Good day out to at a very challenging course.
We were made to feel very welcome as visitors.
The course was in good condition considering the weather.
Expect a long walk from certain greens to tees as the course is split by the A34 which you have to go over to play half a dozen holes. Not that I would let you put that off.
Would I go back - absolutely. I would like to play it again when conditions are much kinda and the weather is warmer.
Lovely course spoilt by no marshalling of pace of play
4 hours 45 minutes and we were a 2 ball. We could see 4 hole gap at least in front of a group 3 holes in front of us, no marshall came out. When we got back to the clubhouse it turned out to be a large group of friends who could barely play from what I was watching.
My advice play the course but check for societies before hand and ask for a marshall.
The course is good
The course is quite long and will recommend use of a buggy. It is also very challenging especially around the greens
