The Quarry Golf Course
About
The land that now provides a home to Quarry Golf Course was formerly the abandoned Alamo Cement plant. Keith Foster converted this unique location into a challenging layout with a links-style front nine and a back nine that plays entirely through an abandoned rock quarry with walls over a 100 feet tall on three sides. The first half of the golf course features plays through open fields of rolling hills with native grasses and a near absence of trees. Creeks and streams come into play on six holes of the front nine. The quarry pit on the back nine is truly the most unique feature on the golf course. Quarry Golf Course's most dramatic hole is the 17th, which requires a tee shot over a deep ravine that is framed by a 40-foot waterfall.

Just Plain Fun
This course is a riot. The front nine has some good variety and the scenery/forced carries over ravines of the back nine are unbelievable. The conditions were also very good, particularly considering a hard rain the day before. There were a few very small patches on the greens, but the overall conditions earns this course 5 stars. The price is also completely worth the experience. Will be returning again and again.
Not too bad
Greens were a little hard to get use to, but the rest of the course was in great shape. Wish they had more specials, it gets pricey.
VIEWS
The Quarry has only gotten better since the last time I’ve played it about a year ago. They’ve improved the greens & they even have new golf carts with built in Bluetooth speakers, couch-like seats, & real live sports updates! I took my girl w me & she was in awe of the beauty of the course. If you want beautiful views/scenery as well as a great golf course, The Quarry is easily a top-3 recommendation in SA. BEWARE: Not 1 tree on the golf course so you’re SOL for shade on a hot day
Fun Course
Great course and great layout. Golf carts have GPS and speakers with bluetooth so you can connect your phone and play music. Cart girl cane through probably 5 times during the round. Greens were kind of slow but the course was in great shape. Must play if you're in the area.
Fun Course to Play
Challenging and fun course to play. Scenic as well as well groomed. Would like to play again!
Great time and the greens were better than expected. I would play again in a heartbeat!
Greens
Greens needed to be better for the price. If that is fixed it’s worth every penny
Horrible greens
You would think that a course that charges this much to play could afford to overseed the greens! They obviously had issues so why not plant winter rye until the grass grows back? No fun hitting greens in regulation only to struggle making two foot putts. Beverage cart girl was too busy with Titleist demo guys and never made it out to front 9. Another young lady finally showed up on 17. We canceled our 2nd round and played a local muni (Brackenridge). Greens were In ten times better shape. Our annual golf trip WON’T include The Quarry ever again.
Not worth the money.
My biggest issue and really only issue with the course is not once was it mentioned either online or in the golf shop before the round that they had punched the greens only a few days before. For a course of this caliber the greens were atrocious. I understand that they were recently punched but if I had known this I would have played elsewhere.
Terrible Greens
Fantastic layout. Especially the back nine. But they have sadly lost almost every green on the course to some invasive grass. It is disappointing that a course would continue to charge full price ($100) with their course in this shape. It will likely takes months if not this whole season to recover. This is to say nothing of how slow the course plays, every time. Once you reach hole 12 you have about three hours to go.
Play the course once for the view (just just sit in the patio). But best to save your money until next year.
Lot of fun
Let's get one thing out of the way first they have had some trouble with the greens which they are working to rectify. That said I've played on worse and they didn't have a massive impact on our scoring. The opening nine you'll find are interesting without being too taxing (one tip of note on the first you'll want to take whatever stick you have that goes 200 yards and no more!) Then you come to the back nine and that's where the fun starts. As therse holes wind there way around the old quarry workings. Give it a try you'll have fun!
Greens were trashed
When I booked the course they never said anything about bad greens . The price was $95 the steering wheel on cart said 2 greens were in bad condition they were sorry but as i played every single green had holes and choppy surface from a winter disease. The design is nice fairways were good fun course but they should never take full price for greens that you had to just take a 2 putt and move on. I wish i would had taken pictures. ON a good note the golf carts had the most comfy seats i have ever sat in it was like a lazy boy chair.
Picturesque layout-horrible putting surface.
Nice layout, but the greens were unputtable! They should have closed the front nine as there was no grass on the greens except weeds. A discounted rate should be offered when a courses greens are this bad. Our superintendent would have closed our course under these conditions. I have seen temporary greens that were fairer then these!
Not what I expected
After paying $80 per tee time when the normal fee was $90, I found out why this hot deal was not that great of a deal. I played this course for many years and they have always given range balls or had range balls available. However now if you get a hot deal it does not include range balls. If you pay the same exact price directly to the quarry you do get your range balls.
Now it's address the greens. Horrible. Inconsistent role speed is pretty drastic as well as the grass is like putting through a pinball machine. Absolute zero true role except for a few holes. The remaining 15 to 16 holes is horrible. They should not be charging full price for this course. They even have an apology letter on the cart after you have paid.
The Greens have at least another 2 months before they will be anywhere close to being playable
Would Not Play It Even for $10.
6 hour round. Wait on every hole. Greens in deplorable condition. Forget putting! Front side only 3,100 yards from the "Professional" tees. Best thing was the new cushy golf cart! Won't be back. Not worth it even at $10.
Unplayable greens.
All 18 greens are as smooth as a gravel road. Monday afternoon round took 5 hours 5 minutes with 4 groups on the par 3's. Ranger was apologetic. Great layout. Nice carts. I was looking forward to playing this course after reading other reviews but this is a "one 'n' done for me.
Poor greens
Nice layout and course was in reasonable condition for March the only complaint would be the greens they were very poor, and whe they are in this condition I don't think it's value for money
We appreciate you taking the time to review the course and rate us. We are going to pass on your feedback to the teams in charge so they can work to make changes. Thanks for visiting The Quarry Golf Course. We hope to see you again in the future.
