The Quarry Golf Course
About
The land that now provides a home to Quarry Golf Course was formerly the abandoned Alamo Cement plant. Keith Foster converted this unique location into a challenging layout with a links-style front nine and a back nine that plays entirely through an abandoned rock quarry with walls over a 100 feet tall on three sides. The first half of the golf course features plays through open fields of rolling hills with native grasses and a near absence of trees. Creeks and streams come into play on six holes of the front nine. The quarry pit on the back nine is truly the most unique feature on the golf course. Quarry Golf Course's most dramatic hole is the 17th, which requires a tee shot over a deep ravine that is framed by a 40-foot waterfall.

Disaster greens
Putting on the front nine was like putting on a gravel parking lot. $100 and none of the hole had good greens. Your basically playing this course for the scenery. My recommendation, park, walk past the club house set down and enjoy a beer/scenery and then leave.
The staff was really friendly. But they stack the schedule so tight that we’re were either on top of the next group or the group behind us was waiting. It was pretty intense.
Another odd comment and I know this is preference. The back nine feels odd because you see people everywhere since there are no trees. No real peaceful about the course on the back nine.
Nice track. Was chilly and windy when we played. Greens had just been punched. Will play here again.
Unique back nine
The back nine is built in a rock quarry! Totally different and something to see!!
Only if the Greens were better
Loved the lay-out. More so the back 9 which plays in the entire Quarry. What great views.
My only concern was the greens. They are not a true roll. There was so many mico-clumps of some other type of grass on the greens that prevented a true roll , thus making putting super challenging with little or no hope of making or saving birdies and pars.
With that said, I would still play it again. Its only minutes from the airport for those with a little time to kill. Just make sure you hit the restroom at the turn as you will not , and I mean you will not have any discreet place to go on the back 9 as everything is wide open from a golfers, homeowner & business employee's view that you can see all 9 holes from many vantage points.
Like I said, the back nine is an a quarry , with businesses and homes on the rim, but while its wide-open for viewing, golfers are challenged by a lot of water/sand hazards and lots of elevation changes to contend with.
Great views
Super friendly staff and awesome starter. He was very helpful and really nice. The quarry 9 was amazing and about as pristine as you want. Bunkers were super fluffy and in perfect shape. Greens almost perfect. The front 9 was a little more rough. The greens were way too fast and they had a lot of sand base and too many little tuffs of grass in them. I actually hit the middle of a green and it shot to the right and off the green on a par 3. So they were not holding even medium irons. Overall I would like to play this course again when front 9 is in better shape. I got a hot deal tee time on golf now early weekday tee time so couldn’t beat the price. I would be backfor sure as overall it was great. Carts are the most comfortable I have ever seen and only two weeks old and even have touch screen apps to play music.
Great track and staff
Great staff and I loved the layout of the course.
Must Play
The course is a lot of fun with some real tests of your ability to manage your play. The front nine gets you in the mood for a great round of golf with an open and inviting layout then the back nine really challenges your ball placement ability and course management skills all while offering breathtaking beauty all around you when you drop into the old Quarry.
It’s a great course and the staff were fantastic.
Rental clubs were Titleist All around (AP1 Irons, Vokey wedges, 917 woods and a Scotty Cameron putter) at a cost of $50 for the round. While I missed my own clubs for familiarity, this was a good compromise.
Green fees were reasonable for a course of this quality and we played in a cart which is not my norm but was appreciated as we were first timers and needed the GPS. The cart does have a disabling feature if you go where they don’t want you so that takes a little getting used too.
If you’re in the area I say get out there and play but don’t forget your camera!!
Great Course
Our first experience gold in San Antonio, did not disappoint, great layout with very friendly staff. If your in this area you must try this course.
Great course, bad greens
I like the course and play there frequently. However, this time I was disappointed. The greens were horrible and certainly not worth $79 plus tax. My friends are seniors and did not receive any special rates. I will not be back until the greens are fixed or they only charge $50.
Challenging course
Nice Pro Shop and friendly check in. My cart was marked with my name and Free range balls started my round. This course has some of the longest Par 4’s I’ve ever played. Water is in play on at least half of the holes. Bunkers were strategically placed and the sand was soft even though it had rained the day before. The back 9 is in the Quarry itself and posed elevated tee boxes and greens. Greens throughout were well manicured and were fairly fast. Overall shape of the course was very good for winter golf conditions.
5 hour round
Course is in decent shape, but the pace of play was horrible. I saw a Marshal but I don't guess they were encouraging anyone to speed up play.
Enjoyable round
Good price for 18 holes. Extra charge for range balls was little much.
