The Quarry Golf Course
About
The land that now provides a home to Quarry Golf Course was formerly the abandoned Alamo Cement plant. Keith Foster converted this unique location into a challenging layout with a links-style front nine and a back nine that plays entirely through an abandoned rock quarry with walls over a 100 feet tall on three sides. The first half of the golf course features plays through open fields of rolling hills with native grasses and a near absence of trees. Creeks and streams come into play on six holes of the front nine. The quarry pit on the back nine is truly the most unique feature on the golf course. Quarry Golf Course's most dramatic hole is the 17th, which requires a tee shot over a deep ravine that is framed by a 40-foot waterfall.

Quarry
1st time in Tx San Antonio River Walk is not what it was sometime ago but golfing at the Quarry was great so was the views...
Back 9 could be great, front 9 pretty much
Sometimes they start everyone on the 10th which is putting your best foot forward since the back nine is fun and challenging and often dramatic. Designed around the hollowed-out section of an abandoned cement rock quarry, the wind is coming from ever-changing directions. The flag may be showing west while the tee box may be blowing east! And if your long shots are a bit off, there are rock outcroppings aplenty and a couple of opportunities to get your ball wet. Front nine is boring in comparison and layed out like other courses in the area.
The Quarry
A very unique layout, that you would be hard to find just about anywhere. As the name states it used to be a limestone quarry. It has some very unique holes and with no one way that the holes need to be played, this course is great for imaginative shot makers. The staff is very friendly and were very helpful. It is very easy to get to from downtown San Antonio.
Excellent condition
Played the Quarry on a Wednesday for my dad's first round here in Texas with me. Immaculate conditions. Superb. 5 star across the board. The rough was cut. Fairways mown. Green rolled true. Quick. Nice. Bunkers looked good. Couldn't ask for a better round. Beautiful course. Highly suggest if in San Antonio to go and enjoy the experience here. Dad and I have traveled many places playing: Florida, RTJ trail Alabama, Myrtle Beach Etc. The Quarry was amongst the best conditions we've seen.
Hard to think of a better golf value considering cost, in town location, layout, scenery..although the ice cubes were small.
Nice course, slow pace of play though
I played the quarry for the first time this past Sunday in the early evening, and overall had a good experience. Started on #10 and got beat up by the tough layout, but had fun. The front 9 was much more open from what I played. We didn't get to finish a full 18 due to extenuating circumstances (slow group ahead of us).
The downside was a foursome ahead of us that were SLOW and didn't offer to let us play through. Add to that the group behind hitting up into our group when we had nowhere to go and it put a bad taste in my mouth.
The course is great; nice greens, very cool scenery. I'd like to go back and get a full 18 in, but not sure when that would be a possibility if it's usually as packed as it was.
I booked my tee time at 11:40am but got there earlier with the hope to finish earlier to match my changed schedule. I was travelling in SA.
The WOMEN in the Proshop clearly indicated earlier play is not OK as I booked my tee time from Gofnow (yeah that is the reason), although she first sent me to the Starter and the Starter would let me in.
I eventually played 15 holes only.
The staff is not flexible and unfriendly
Top Notch Golf
This is a great course for the public to feel like you are appreciated. Beautiful sceneary and maintained. Best view afterward at the restaurant. Great place to have a happy hour drink and count the shanks and fat shots.
Excellent course conditions
Can't say enough about how well The Quarry keeps it's course in great shape. Fairways allow the ball to sit up nicely and greens run true. Inside the quarry some fairways are a little tighter, but opens up on the front nine. Pro shop staff and John were very friendly and helpful getting me out as a single player......hooked up with another player. Course was busy but still kept a good pace of play. Best to play when the summer heat is not too bad. Definitely recommend.
Fun and Challenging Course
Excellent condition even better staff. I love to play at the Quarry.
Course overall in good shape. Greens very slow
Staff was friendly. Great value as a Hot Deal on Golf Now. Course in good shape but greens were too slow. Not as much fun as when they're cut and fast
Fun course to play
Played this course with my 13 yr old son and we had a great time. The course was challenging yet very fair for both of our games given the multiple tee box locations. Interesting layout given the front and back nines are very different, with the back nine playing in the old quarry. We both said we will be back to play the course again.
Must Play Course
This was my first time playing The Quarry, and I was not disappointed. I booked a Hot Tee Time at 11:50 on Saturday, and was paired up with another single and a twosome. I expected the pace of play to be slower than usual since it was the middle of the day on a Saturday, but we never had a problem. The course layout is beautiful, and the conditions are excellent. The greens were plugged about a month ago and still showed some signs of inconsistency, other than that the course played great. If you're in the area, The Quarry is a must play.
Greens were horrible
Layout was interesting to be in the middle of the city. No real serenity because of traffic buzzing by etc. greens were horrible! Could not putt. We were on buddies trip and played 7 rounds in 4 days . This was the worst of the bunch condition wise.
Worse Than It Used to Be
I've played the Quarry for years. There are normal ups & downs with conditions, but it can usually be relied on to be a pretty high-end course with above average fairway conditions and great greens.
That is not the case right now. Fairways and bunkers are just fine for the price level, but the greens are really below average right now for any mid-range course, let alone a higher-end track. They are dry and not rolling true.
I'd give them a pass, but this is hardly the toughest time of year for maintaining greens. More importantly, I've just finished playing three other courses in San Antonio and every one of them is taking better care of their greens. One of them is a premium course, but the other two are 40% less expensive than what the Quarry is charging.
Is this a bad course? No, it's a good course. Great layout, still a great experience if you've never played there before. But it's a very poor value right now, largely because of what are very fixable conditions. Frustrating.
