Excellent condition good greens
Course in excellent condition. Greens fast and true, fairways well cut. Testing course with good variety of holes with excellent layout, plenty of challenges. Definitely be back again
Course in much better state / condition than thought
Greens were in good condition , rest of course fairly good . Was a bit concerned as there’s been a lot of comments about the lack of maintenance etc . Much better than when I last played just over a year ago.
Worst Course in the county
Course condition was appalling, no care been taken at all. Difficult to sign in, pace of play awful and just a joke of a club
Awful course
First time playing in a few years and it was very disappointing to see how bad the course conditions have become. The greens were awful and virtually unplayable. At £40 green fee it is extremely overpriced which is a shame as it has got huge potential to be a good course. Significant investment into the course is needed.
Daylight Robbery
What can I say..........ive played this course every week this season because I had a membership and it's been the worst experience ever on a golf course! The tee boxes are horrendous, the fairways are like concrete ,bunkers have very little sand and the greens are a complete mix bag ,some are ok and others are terrible! (Do they even have greenkeepers?) Holes 9,10,18 and a few others around the course have range balls everywhere which is shocking, hole 10 is the worst for it! Turned the club shop into a GYM what no one uses, turned the clubhouse into a restaurant and hiked the prices for the golf course and on the points matrix ! £40 a round for a visitor, christ it isn't worth £20 ! Won't be coming back ,the owners have treated there members like mugs ! The staff are genuinely nice and you can see they are making some effort with the facilities but the whole emphasis should be on the golf course but it isn't it's just being neglected and it's a shame because it has potential!
Overpriced and under maintained
Tees and greens in a poor state of repair. Bunkers looked like they had sand in at some point but really hard and shallow.
We took 4hrs 45 for a two ball being stick behind several slow moving groups. Players behind us abandoned as we were waiting on every tee from the 3rd onwards
Nobody there to check us in so we just walked on.
Balls all around 9th, 10th & 18th from the driving range and practice area. Balls flying over the end of the range on to the 10th fairway while we were standing waiting to play our shots.
Poor and overpriced
Could be an unbelievable course with the top tracer range, course layout and clubhouse, but the course was in shocking condition. Tee boxes were in awful shape, very bare and uneven from unfilled divots, if you end up in a bunker then remember to bring your own sand and finally the greens were shocking, would have better luck putting on cobblestones. It’s a shame with the range facilities, although saying that my post round Stella was flat. Rip-off at £35 personally for the course condition I’d be unhappy paying more than £15.
With no rain the greens were patchy and a true run could be difficult, which is disappointing but understandable.
However some tee boxes were in a shocking state, long grass and no care taken over them.
Although a decent layout the state of the course in general was below what I’d expect, and I’m glad I didn’t pay premium price for the round.
Horrendous!
Avoid this course at all costs. The greens are a complete disgrace and the course is not worth £10 to play. £40 is absolute daylight robbery and Golf Now should not be allowing this to happen.
There is also a very unfriendly course Marshall whose job is to drive around berating golfers about their attire and generally discouraging visitors from coming back!
I’ll let the pictures of the course speak for themselves!
Awful greens
No prior warning that the watering system was and had been broken for weeks before hand. No warning that the greens had no grass left, baked and no existent. Also still having to pay full price for the round not ideal. Rest of the course wasn’t too bad but will not be returning in a hurry. Shame

Very disappointing.
I'm looking around for a club local to me to join to play regularly & Forest Hill is only 20 mins away from my home so a perfect location. On arrival there was a lot of refurbishment work going on & there was some confusion as to where to sign in. Finally found it & the staff were very friendly. The club house & toilets were excellent. We teed off and found the fairways & first cut (semi rough) to be in great condition. It was when we got to the green when things started to go downhill. All 18 greens were in terrible condition. Dry, dusty, patchy & lumpy. It was impossible to putt in a straight line as the surface was so bad. The bunkers were also in poor condition. Several had weeds growing in them & one even had the broken lining placed down before the sand is added showing through in several places. Most, if not all the tee boxes had uneven, lumpy surfaces. Overall a very disappointing day & until I see reviews after todays date that say the greens, bunkers & tee boxes have been repaired/replaced, sadly, I won't be playing there again.
Awful winter conditions
Booked for 18, only 9 holes available, greens were soaked through, had tractor marks through multiple greens. Understand winter golf is restrictive but this course is not loved whatsoever and the drainage is awful. Might be alright in the summer but do not bother in the winter.
Bad reviews brought me here
I read a lot of bad reviews, and my first thought was "sod that". But I like to try things for myself before passing judgment, so I made the booking.
It's peak winter. I don't expect a lot from anywhere at this time of year, it's been in minus temperatures all week...
First off, the pro shop was well stocked, had some quality equipment to browse, and the staff were not just friendly, but relaxed and were having a laugh. Good start for me.
Secondly the toilets were in great condition and clean.
Onto the course...
As previously mentioned, it's been frozen all week, I couldn't expect the course to be any different, the shop staff advised I should lay my shots short, and they were absolutely right. Everything was solid, I don't feel like a review of the course is fair in those conditions. However what I will say, is that considering the weather, I can't wait to play this course again in the fairer months and I'm just grateful they're allowing us to get our rounds in. I will return, whether the conditions are bad or not, the poor reviews of this course appear to be utter nonsense and I'm really glad I came and made my own mind up.
And finally, the restaurant and bar are in great nick, serve nice beer and the menu looks to be great although i didn't eat.
Don't let poor reviews put you off from trying for yourself.
Municipal Course, Premium Price
Judging by their membership fees and comparing them to other local courses that are of a premium quality, you’d expect FHGC to be another premium Leicestershire course. Not so
Recently cut rough left in clumps off the fairways, making it nigh on impossible to find an errant shot
The greens are ridiculously pony- there are municipal courses you can play on that have less weeds on them
I’ve never seen weeds/grass growing out of the middle of bunkers before in my life, but you can see them here!
Lack of sand in the bunkers is shocking too
Pace of play- being stuck behind a 5 ball who can’t hack it more than 30 yards a time
We all know FH have lost members by the 100s due to all the above and the ridiculous increase in member fees. This has paved a way for newer golfers to join, and because Forest Hill are desperate to up the membership numbers, they’re accepting anyone of every standard
This review may sound quite snobby, but it really was appalling. The club have set the prices, so my expectations were set to match those prices. If you don’t agree with the fact golfers should be better than hitting the ball 30 yards every time, then you can still have an etiquette. However…
Don’t worry about tucking your T-shirt in, don’t worry about taking your electric trolley over the red tees. Don’t worry about playing slow and not letting players through. Don’t worry about repairing your pitch marks
It’s such a shame, the course is challenging, and more picturesque than the courses it wants to compete against. It just fails miserably in everything else.
After walking off on 13, we requested a refund which was rejected. We in turn rejected their offer of a free 9 hole voucher because we’ll never come back here again.
Time for the owners to concentrate on rescuing the golf club instead of prioritising the overpriced driving range
A game killer
I have played here before but clearly there are issues behind the scenes as they have lost the greens and have no attention or resources to put into maintaining the most basic level of care around the course. Difficult very wet prolonged winter aside, weeding bunkers, basic maintenance of sand levels and simply leaving GUR’ markings with no attempt to do the R”epair element is obvious. Greens were the worst I have seen and would put Brad Faxon off his putting stroke. Not sure what the future of the course is but definitely one to avoid unless you are not serious about playing and just going out with the lads for S&Gs and a few beers. Front of house staff and Pro Shop being let down by owners.
Review
Overall good, greens looked battered compared to previous playing there but overall nice course and decent price
Shame
The course has a nice layout .
Unfortunately it has been badly neglected .
The greens are the worst I’ve played now .
There is more grass than sand in some of the bunkers with a couple just spray canned GUR .
Great value for a Twilight Round
Decided to play golf rather than suffer the struggles of ENG v SLO and I thoroughly enjoyed my 9 holes around Forest Hills. I've played here before and think there is some decent holes on the front 9, with varieties that test my game. The course was in ok condition, the greens weren't great but I think a large part of that comes from unrepaired pitch marks leaving an ugly scar. I imagine it's difficult to keep on top of the conditioning when the patrons can't be bothered?
This was a twilight round, it was very cheap and I was more or less on my own for the 9 holes.
I do plan on playing here again as I only ever play 9 holes, it's very good value and the layout provides me with a good challenge. The greens could be better but they're not unplayable and didn't ruin my experience.
Course
Course was as expected, but would have been told there was a competition on at time of booking
