Great course in all seasons
The course played brilliantly with an early morning summer round.
Unfortunately a couple of interactions with a green keeper on the practice green left a sour taste in our mouths due to a patronising conversation on both occasions. Specifically on the stating whilst on the first tee at 0550 that “the course didn't open while 0600”. A fair enough statement, but then followed by clear hypocrisy as they watched a different pair hit their tee shots at 0555.
Best value for money in Greater Manchester
This is a great course and even in the wet it was brilliant, the greens were class even with the weather we had. The main thing for me though is the money. Every club in the greater Manchester area is £30-£35+, and a lot of those courses are worse! To play at a course as good as this for £20 is incredible value, and something other clubs should learn from.
Good greens, inconsiderate members
Played at 9.28 on Sunday 21st of July. Was very surprised at the condition of the course especially with the weather that we all have experienced. The greens were true and quick. Unfortunately there was one thing that was a negative. The round took us 4 hours 35 minutes. There were 4 members in front of has and it was apparent after 4 holes it was going to be a long day. The group in front of them were 2 holes in front after 6 holes and the people behind us were getting irate. Do members think that it is there right to play slow? Not once did they offer to let us play through. This course should be played in 3 hours 40 minutes. As golfers we have duty to keep up with the group in front and it is etiquette to let the group behind play through if you can't keep up. Sorry if this is what your members see as a normal round we won't be visiting again any time soon.
Happy return
I played this course regularly in its early stages 30+ years ago. Due to surgery on neck and shoulder I had to give up golf altogether. Only this year have I decided to give it a try again disappointingly my game is struggling but the enthusiasm is back. I played this week and wow what a change, the course has matured into a great one. Greens are excellent and fairways well managed. The staff are friendly and polite. All in all a good club and will use regular again .
Nice course, facilities limited
Looked for a place to play after work when visiting the area. Good value for money based on the quality of the course, greens very good.
It's a fairly tight course with well guarded greens and well placed bunkers. Good condition, could do with better signage between holes and especially from the car park to the first tee? I ended up starting on the 10th as I had to guess where the 1st was.
Great potential to match facilities with the course and would play again just for the challenge and the condition.
Not a warm welcome!
First impressions stick and unfortunately at Hart Common my first impression wasn’t great! The course was sound, the staff however could work on their people skills. There’s a house on the course and when I nearly stepped foot on the grounds (forgive me, didn’t know the lay of the land) a woman basically shouted at me and told me off like I was a child for nearly stepping foot on the premises. I apologised and she looked me up and down, horrible! Then the lady in the club shop wasn’t any better, my bro was wearing the wrong pants, she spoke down to me about this and made my brother feel stupid. Again I was apologetic about this but she didn’t want to know! I realise there’s a dress code but being rude and condescending in the moment doesn’t help. Wasn’t a warm welcome and won’t be rushing back here.
Very surprised
A lovely well laid out course in great condition.
Car parking facilities could do with a tidy up but doesn't take anything away from the wanting to play here again.
Tee times too close together
Course and virtually everything surrounding playing was more than good enough but unfortunately with what I'd suspect as tee times too close together (being 4 mins apart) means that I was behind a two ball in a buggy which where playing right up to a four ball on foot in front of them this meant I then had another gent right behind me and it ruined a good round unfortunately if the tee times where better managed or simply set further apart it could remove the tightness on each group. Aside from that, the staff, amenities, course conditions, layout, parking, everything was better than my last visit which I've never had a bad one either.
Technical!!
Review is of my own opinion and high handicap. Starting with the course - very technical and unforgiving on some holes, I wouldn’t reccomend this as a starters course. First man I met wasn’t that nice as there was a comp on that day and not many golf courses are that friendly to non members. Man in shop, very friendly and welcoming - super helpful, described first three holes and told us where to start and who was in front of us. We was also behind two members who where super friendly and welcoming. To be fair I had a bad day on this course so it kind of tainted my opinion but I have to be honest it’s kept superb, the fairways are great and pins excellent. It’s defo worth the money, even if surrounded by golf upper class!!!
Great course but could do with knowing beforehand regarding pairing up
I’ve been to this course a fair few times and I love the layout and the conditions considering the amount of poor weather we’re excellent. However I can’t help but feel a bit miffed that I was told on arrival that I would be pairing up into a fourball with people who I’d never met before. I was looking forward to playing on my own at my own pace and was expecting to be finished earlier than the four and half hours it took me to complete. Don’t get me wrong the people who I played with were nice company but would have preferred to test my new clubs at my own pace and not under pressure as much.
Great value for money!!
The above says it all.. great course with fantastic layout… we will be back
Could be better
A good course and the weather had been terrible but it was playable. Greens needed a little work and the tees were a little long. It’s well and good having automatic mowers but the rough is a bit too much as it’s obviously not being mowed. We had a good day, the weather was good and the pace of play was fine. All was going well until the 17th when some stupid woman, her 2 kids and 2 dogs wandered across the fairway just as I was on my backswing. She walked across like the queen at Sandringham as if she owed the place and I was to bow down at her presence. If irresponsible dog owners saunter across the fairway while golf is in play then they should do so at their own risk. The fact that I was then concerned at hitting her with a wayward shot that ruined my game. Golf courses are for golfers. There are hundreds of areas for dog owners (I know, I am one) but I would not walk across a busy road and expect everyone to stop for me. Do us all a favour and get rid of the public access. Let them walk around the course rather than over it please.
