Brilliant
Myself and my other half played here for the first time and were met by a lovely friendly bunch of folk when we arrived who were welcoming and so helpful. We enjoyed the course itself very much. A special mention must go to the fabulous sausage rolls that they serve - we had the ones with black pudding - yum! We aren’t able to play as often as we’d like due to life being busy, but we will definitely be back in the future after experiencing a brilliant day.
Very good course, great value for money
Played this course for the first time the other weekend.
Course was in great condition, some greens were quick and some were on the slow side, but overall great condition.
The layout was good, last few holes were little bit muddled but played rwally well
Would happily come back and play again
Interesting course but remedial attention to greens is urgently required.
The course has a very interesting layout and is located in an idyllic location with panoramic views up into Northumberland from the upper tier and the club house facilities are first rate. However, the condition of some of the newly turfed greens is currently very poor making approach shots and putting a somewhat frustrating experience - if the new turf has been installed by contractors the club urgently needs to get them back to finish the job properly but if it's just a DIY job I can partly understand the difficulties encountered by the green keeping staff. Note that the course is very hilly which might be a problem for some players.
Outstanding considering the poor UK winter
Visited for the first time, and had a very warm reception from the team at Stocksfield, offering Lear information on the course and its current conditions.
Considering the poor winter this year in the UK, the course was beautiful and showing signs of real potential for this coming season, striped greens and fairways, consistent running speeds and the inclinations posing some real reading challenges. Yes there were a couple of winter greens and tees in play, but these did not detract from a good day out.
Views are just beautiful and a reflection of County Durham and Northumberland at its best. Highly recommend
Single ball play
Course kept in really good condition, tight front 9 hitting through the trees this then opens up onto the back nine. Elevation changes make for some tricky holes but also some great tee off positions. I play off 20 handicap for reference.
Friendly golf club with some of the best greens i’ve played on.
A very testing course with some of the best greens I’ve have played on. Staff very friendly and helpful with a great social club house and facilities.
Very poor condition
We arrived at 8.30 we had 2 three balls booked , there was no body around , the changing room where availed, but nothing else , the tee off time we booked was 8.50 and 9am , the pro shop opened at 9am .
We found the course in poor condition fairways had very little grass on them and greens in very poor condition sand and patchy areas on most . We only played the 10 holes and returned back to the car park after the tenth as this was next to the 18th
Held up by ground staff .
The ground staff have absolutely no concept of the needs of the golfers. As I was teeing off on a par 3 the 14th a green keeper drove on to the green and started cutting the grass. Next hole as I was approaching the green a different member of staff started messing around in the bunker and you are worried a stray ball could hit them . True the course is in a good condition and they have to do their job but it would help if they just do somewhere else until people are finished and it wouldn’t frustrate people . I feel it was £23 wasted. These were the 2 worst holes but it was like that most of the round.
Another enjoyable round at Stocksfield
Have played this course a few times before and as always a most enjoyable round. Course in great condition despite the lack of rain. Green staff doing a great job to keep the standard of the course high. Staff in the pro shop and bar very friendly and helpful. Course was quite quiet so no issue with pace of play. Grateful to the seniors fourball who let me tee off ahead of them. Look forward to next time I get to play at Stocksfield.
Loved the course
Beautiful setting in Northumberland and a really good layout.
Greens under going lots of maintenance but didn’t ruin the round
Greens
Overall course was in reasonably good condition. The down side was that from the 9th to the last the greens had recently had drainage work done which left ridges running through the full length of the green about 1.5 feet apart, this left putting somewhat of a lottery. Wouldn't mind but when you still have to pay full green fee was a little disappointed
The course has good features
The greens were an absolute disgrace for this time of year. Could have gone to the beach and played for free. All five of us thought the same not worth the money and certainly won’t be back. Reception and bar staff where extremely pleasant but the golf was a very very poor experience.
Fairways excellent , greens awful
Not sure what’s happened but the greens are shocking at the moment. I hadnt seen any posts so maybe I have missed something from the club. Fantastic food and beer from the clubhouse.
Stocksfield
Interesting course. Tight tree lines front nine and open back nine.
Greens were under refurbishment so not the best but it didn’t bother us too much .
Will play again when the greens should be better.
Ideal round of golf
Just a great challenging course. Tight first 9 followed by open back 9. Fairways and greens fine apart from 3 holes where greens are under repair. Very friendly and accommodating and bar meals amazing.
