Cold February Round
It has rained plenty recently, and unfortunately the course was extremely wet, even though no rain on the day. To give the course management credit, all grass tees and greens were in play, with no temporary greens at all. Electric trolleys were permitted, which was helpful. This course obviously doesn’t drain that well, but I have experienced many course that would not have opened under the conditions.
I will revisit under drier conditions, as the course layout was enjoyable. My playing partner son shot 80, which was remarkable given the conditions, but his decent short game was helped by most of his approach shots sitting precisely where they landed on the greens.
Give the course a chance, you won’t be disappointed, but perhaps wait until the ground firms up a little.
8 holes were closed today
It was totally disappointing because almost half of holes were closed but I paid full. I think they should have informed their customers in advance. It is ridiculous to pay full even though 8 holes out of 18 holes were closed.
Don’t go in winter
Only paid £15 for this however still was not worth the visit.
Course was in terrible condition - fairways was mud and greens moved as you walked on it. Hasn’t rained for a week so didn’t expect it to be that bad.
The cost was only £15 so I guess you get what you pay for however when we check it they don’t tell us HALF the course was shut! So after the 1st hole we had no idea where to go as there were no signs as the 2nd to 9th holes were closed.
I can imaging the course being decent in the summer but def be avoiding in the winter.
Course in good condition for winter.
Played Park Wood on Tuesday and was impressed with the condition of the course for winter. Greens firm and very payable, the fairways also firm with few waterlogged areas. Some bunkers had standing water but expected due the amount of rain we have had recently.
I was surprised the course was not busier, Park Wood is quite challenging, but a good challenge for golfers of all abilities.
I would recommend this course both for winter and summer.
Avoid at weekends during the winter.
Played 10 holes on Saturday which took three hours to complete. Pace of play terrible on some holes we were the fourth group waiting to tee off. We gave up after 10nas there was no way we would get round before dark. Very disappointing.
It really IS a hidden gem!
Have always read (and taken) reviews with a pinch of salt, we all have our likes and dislikes when it comes to courses. And reading the reviews before playing here was no different.
What WAS different, however, was that the many many reviews describing this as a hidden gem were actually true! AND we played in November when a lot of other courses had restriction after restriction. None here! Granted a couple of the fairways were a tad soft, but we could still play them.
Looking forward to playing here many more times in 2025, if it is this impressive in winter, spring/summer will be a delight!
Park wood
Lovely challenging course and layout, great value worth the trip out to the countryside.
Good
Good Course, Clubhouse felt a bit souless, quite a few up one fairway down the next, could do with some better signage too. Was a misty, damp day so probablly not the best day to play there...
Wet wet wet
The course condition is too wet and muddy everywhere. Greens were slow and bunkers were flooded.
Terrible pace of play
Conditions weren’t great. Course had some good features but the pace of play was the worst I have ever experienced.
Would not play again
Hidden away.
Pleasantly surprised. Greens and fairways in great condition. Long holes, will recommend it to my society for one of our golf days.
Fantastic layout a a great test for all levels
Played after heavy rain and the course played well. Will drfinetly play agai.n
Good tight course
Always enjoy playing Parkwood. Only really play in the summer, as the course can get water logged in the winter, on the front 9. Quite tight in places, so you need to be pretty straight off the tee. Greens were in good shape, and ran well (pretty quick). One of the highest points around, so the views of London, can be pretty impressive on a bright sunny day.
Disappointing but we had a good day out.
Ok, let's start with the positives.
The breakfast was unreal and reasonably priced.
The course was a great layout and overall we found the course interesting, it had everything, Short holes, long holes, tight tee shots, A HUGE par 3 at 248 yards.. and a few blind tee shots.
Now the Negatives...
We drove 50 miles to play here and after we bought breakfast, drinks and whatever else we parted with £130.00 + fuel and it was disappointing.
If you want to work on your 3 putts, this is the place to come. I never thought that in July i would ever find myself putting on greens running 4 on the stimp. I think the fairways were cut shorter than the greens.
The fairways, although cut nicely and there was definition between fairways, 1st cut and rough.
There were too many weeds on the fairways.
The par 3 14th - the shrubs around the lake were so high you couldn't see the flag from the back tee boxes).
Overall a decent day, but if i had to use one word to describe the golf course it would be "shabby". No attention to detail. This could be a cracking course.
Great value and excellent course
Great value course, especially for afternoon rounds when its cheaper and quieter.
Greens were very slow, didn't seem like they'd been rolled or cut but usually that's not the case. Lots of broken ball cleaners though and not a lot of sand in many of the bunkers. A little bit of care and attention would make it a 5 star without much more effort.
Lovely track
Couldn’t believe how quiet it was ! I will be visiting again
