Fair but challenging course
A perfect challenge, no need for long hitting just be precise and use your skills, imagination and little luck around the greens. Loved the challenge and would recommend the course to anyone.
Immaculate greens
Decided to play pike hills as in york for a few days and was sure it would be a better option than shopping, I wasn't let down, very impressed with the whole experience. Arrived early as was playing on my own, which can be problematic, the girl told me golf now had added 2 players and to be honest I really just wanted to play on my own, so so let me go at 9.30,the fairways were great the shapes of the holes make you think and give just enough doubt to make even the shorter holes tricky, the greens were tremendous, I paid 20pound for my round and the quality of the greens were well worth a club costing much more a round, I wouldn't hesitate to play here again, although unlikely as not from around here, play was a little slow but I was a few senior guys in front of the pair I was behind so was honest slow pace, I would totally recommend this course, was fantastic and made me few days away even more enjoyable, thanks pike hills.
Drive. Pitch. Putt. Repeat.
Perhaps my cool review is reflective of my poor performance on the course. I would rather play Pike Hills as a club member than say a challenging links course week in, week out... however the first-time (perhaps one-time) visitor is seeking to be wow-ed, a special experience. For most of the round, you're cognisant of being adjacent to the A64 - in fact several drive lines run perilously close to the road.
PHGC was in good nick, well maintained, greens mostly receptive and running quick despite recent rain.
The layout is mostly up and down - mix of open and narrow fairways. There's nothing visually dramatic and pulse-racing, but it's a nice track netherless. The fine three holes involve criss-crossing of fairways, which is like finding a parking space in a busy multi-storey car park. The 15th (i think) PAR 3 has the car park on the left - just where i'd parked my vehicle in splendid isolation (now I know why!)
Clubhouse is nice and the drinks and cakes were first rate. I would return.
Pike Hils- Worth a visit
I am a fairly high handicapper and found the course testing especially as the greens were much faster and undulating than I am used to. It reminded me of the Augusta Masters in some places where a slightest touch on a downhill putt would end further away.
I suspect playing as a member allows you to get to know the course and problem areas but as an occasional player, it proved frustrating. I like a challenge and plan to go back to improve my score. Here's hoping!
Not the longest course but accuracy off the tee is key
Very good value for money, the course isn't long but if you're not straight off the tee you're in trouble - thoroughly enjoyed and will definitely return
great course
Played at 9.07 and got behind four old gentlemen who didn't exactly rush and wouldn't let the three of us through waiting a good ten mins each hole, took four and a half hours to get round, great course just spoilt by those members.
Nice Course
This course is worth playing. It has some interesting holes although there are two holes where you are teeing off over the hole you have just played.
Easy course to access but a bit noisy with A64 running next to some holes.
A really pleasent suprise
Really varied and interesting layout. Greens were in excellent condition. I will definitely play this course again.
good Round
course not bad suit high handicappers to low.
will play again
Fairways were very poor in places greens were good layout of course good the only downside was the price of soft drinks at 2pound 20 pence each for a small bottle it was a bit pricey!!!
