A Faded Gem
You can see why this was once a great course and there is a challenge to be had here still, as well as flashes of breathtaking beauty.
Greens are true and still quite quick having been recently dressed. Many tees moved up, but understandable for the time of the year. The fairways will benefit from grass growing again. It looks like holes 3 & 4 were once played off tees long since used. Hole 16 will remind you that golf doesn't have to be a game of long to be great...
I found the dog walkers and park users charming, friendly and polite (I see others here have found it hard to coexist). Very good value for money and a warm welcome from the golf professional.
One slight concern is for the safety of those walkers using crossing paths blind to golfers (e.g. Holes 1 & 6).
A good day out.
Ruined by ignorant walkers
Once again a round ruined by ignorant dog walkers, standing right in the way , on purpose, just walking out as your taking your shot then stopping in middle of fairway, should be some code of conduct or signs , it’s getting ridiculous, that’s why I can’t recommend it, only worth what we paid , not any more and that’s even in summer !!!!
Course for Dog Walkers
Not the worst course in the world but the Dog walkers and people on the course was an absolute joke. People literally walking dog on the fairway as your about to tee off and kids shouting as your playing.
One of the best public courses around
Great course , really well kept by the local authority, and great staff in the shop and bar.
Midday 18 holes
Excellent course and despite terrible rain day before the greens were in great order. Love playing this course as challenging up hill greens really test you. Staff are excellent and great food and bar area also. Never pushed on pace of play by other golfers and everybody is polite that I have come across here.
Same as
Review is titled same as because it’s the same always at the course , the one problem people should be aware of is it’s a public park with dog walkers, people walking out onto fairways and people not moving or unaware that a golf ball travels at speed and will hurt !!!
The course itself is a good challenge , need to keep it on the fairway to post a good score as the rough is unforgiving here. For the money you take the downsides .
Good cheap course to play, greens are a bit worse for wear!!
Amazing course layout and lovely surroundings. I live in Queen’s Park so I have walked through here many times. It could be such a great course with the right money spent, but as it’s a municipal not likely as it’s shared ground with walkers, dogs, cyclists etc. I said hi to everyone with a smile and stroked many dogs.
It not a bad cheaper winter course as it takes the wet weather well. Greens are shocking for most of them, but not bad for winter golf. The only thing that was awful was speed of play. I played this course last minute as I live over the road, and was playing behind 2x 4 balls who were clearly friends. Refusing to let me through. I wasn’t in a hurry, but common courtesy should prevail and let me through as 1 person finishes 18 holes at least an hour quicker than a 4ball. Gave me plenty of time to practice multiple balls in to greens and off tees though. Always a silver lining. Bunkers need sand in too as little to no sand in them.
I would recommend this place to play if you can get a deal through GolfNow. It’s like an amazing pitch and putt but a full golf course. I will play here again, but only a very early tee time to get ahead of play.
For context I am not a crazy fast player, but I shot 82 today and was rather frustrating waiting all day to play so should’ve been better.
Excellent but dangerous
Had a great day … but too many walkers to feel safe hitting driver some of the time. Also roads alongside several tee shots.
Need to be straight … my beginner partners lost a lot of balls.
Lovely layout though … condition is OK but could do with a couple more green keepers
Very quiet … lots more dog walkers than golfers.
18 holes solo round
Excellent course and challenging with very varied up and down hill holes. Liked playing this a lot and even as the rain came down it still held up well.
Great value
For a public course it's great value with some tricky holes and fine green's.
old course in centre of Bournemouth
Lovely old course with a proud history
Now spoilt somewhat by the excessive number of dog walkers. half of whom seem not to be aware they are on a golf course. there are many paths crossing the course.
However we enjoyed the round and the staff were all very friendly and helpful. Very good value for money
Walkers everywhere
A lovely golf course, very accessible and one you can shoot a low score on. Unfortunately the round was delayed by walkers - the course is a public course so walkers are entitled to be around, fair enough, but they walk all over the fairways, across the greens, stand in landing areas for tee offs or second shorts.
There were two particular examples of ignorance which ruined the course for me; one bloke and his pushchair walked straight across the fairway without even looking as I am lining up for a shot. Another - a teenaged / early 20s social media addicted woman walked straight across a fairway with her headphones in on her phone without a care in the world.
Great course if you have all day to wait around for other people..! Wouldn’t recommend if you just want to play golf
Excellent test of golf
My sort of course, different level changes, sloping fairways at various points, hidden valleys and gulleys, all combine to make you think your way around. I'll enjoy it even more now that I know its peculiarities.
Midweek afternoon
Course was dead quiet so able to play at our own pace.
Tee boxes and greens in good nick but the fairways and bunkers are not in best of shape.
A touch overpriced for time of day / week compared to others in the locality.
Always a challenging course
