Sandford Springs (Parks & Woods)
Played Sandford Springs during January, despite the considerable amount of wet weather recently, the course was in good condition. Greens were very good.
Pleasantly surprised
I usually find modern courses - particularly at hotels - excruciatingly dull glorified fields. However, very happy to say was surprised by here. We played "The Woods" and "The Lakes" and both 9s were characterful and a very decent challenge. There's a downhill dog-leg par 4 protected by a pond short of the green on "The Woods" which I though was particularly impressive. Course in good condition despite the drizzle and blustery weather. Great pro-shop too - as buggies had been cancelled due to rain gave us electric trolleys at members' price and free token for the driving range (nice to be able to warm up properly for once). Ample parking and easy to get to.
Lakes and Park
Overall we really enjoyed our day here. Fairways and greens in good condition. The rough beside the fairways could have been closer mown with a first and then second cut. The Lakes loop was very pretty and a bit more challenging than the Parks. Our only real complaint was the signposting between green and next tee and on the tee boxes. As visitors, we didn’t know exactly where we were going and the course map only helped up to a point.. There were no hole markers on any of the Ladies’ tee boxes and on the Men’s they were flat stones, so you couldn’t see them from a distance. We wasted a fair amount of time going to the Men’s tee boxes double checking we were on the right hole.. Would recommend course though for an enjoyable round.
Course in great condition
Very fast and true greens. Tee boxes in lovely condition as was the whole course, which is well laid out, a good challenge and not too busy.
A fair test of your abilities
As it was our first time we thoroughly enjoyed our afternoon. We played the Lakes and Park 9's, each 9 having different challenges for all levels.
Lovely course, well maintained, good pace. Dry, fast greens though!
First time here, pace was good, conditions were good and even the rough was well maintained. Half way amenities open and serving. Only slight down side was the greens were very dry, very fast and hard to read.
Denied my post Lock Down Round
I had booked a round for an 11:40 tee off - Paid £40.
When I got there they told me I had been moved to an 11:12 tee Off because the course was so busy.
I was unfortunately unable to time travel that day - so missed out on my round, lost £40 and had an awesome 1hr 20min drive back to Hertford.
Quality course that never disappoints
This is my 4th time playing here, and was always going to be my venue of choice for my 1st round of the year.
The course was in great shape and the greens were fantastic. The front 9 round the lakes was a little slow as the 4 ball in front were playing like they were competing on the PGA, but once we got on to the back 9 of the woods it was really good pace.
Have loved playing this course every time I visit an will continue to do so, not even the freak snow shower yesterday could have put me off.
