Quirky

Never played the course before, was allowed to set off 30 minutes early. Very narrow front 9 within the racecourse with many hazards and then out into a woodland stretch for back 9. Fairways in good condition, but for some reason the greens were absolutely shocking for time of year. They looked like they had been scarified, bare and uneven. To say the greens played like there had been a heatwave and drought would not exaggerate how poor they looked and played. Like any course it could be anything with good maintenance.

Can’t fault the friendliness of the shop pro and bar staff.

Worth an outing

Always enjoyed Southwell.. been about 5 years since last outing here. Course plays well, well maintained. Almost plays like two separate courses as the front 9 is within the track and back 9 in woodlands.

Some greens in woodlands are very dry and hard. Not that this should discourage anyone wanting to play here. Scenic and entertaining.

Interesting

Course of two halves, very different front 9 inside the race track to the woodland back nice. The front was well maintained and the back wasn’t brilliant, but still March. Good value for money and will still challenge.

Not Bad

I wouldn’t rush back to play this course but if you are after a round of golf it’s perfectly playable. Quirky front nine within the race course and much more standard parkland back nine. Condition was what you’d expect for the price and the clubhouse and members were perfectly acceptable. Like I said I wouldn’t rush back but it nice to get out and play. If you fancy a cheap round and don’t have high expectations then go and play it .

2 Courses for 1

The front and back nine offer different challenges to test every aspect of your game. An excellent course which is enhanced by the hospitality of the staff in the clubhouse. See you again soon.

Good Golf, bad clubhouse

Had a 3 ball yesterday, great weather - met up with some old golf mates. I travelled 2 hours, others 1.5 hours. Started on time, first time on the course, really enjoyed it. Tee'd off at 11.10, finished before 16.00. Looking forward to a well earned beer and comfort break, only to find the clubhouse access and bar closed! That was a surprise.
We left and went our seperate ways. Sad end to a good day.

Southwell Golf Club

Boring font 9, inside the racetrack, one interesting hole, the 8th island hole. Back nine better but nothing special.

Quirky course

Course has moved to mats off all tees but they are decent and easy to get a tee in.

Tail of 2 different 9s as they are completely different. Overall course is in decent condition for this time of year.

Only confusing thing is where to go from 15th green to 16th tee...you have to walk back on yourself.

Decent challenge with a few tricky holes

Challenging course

Though the front nine look straight forward, it still challenges the player to hit straight. The back nine is more traditional and has range of short and long holes.

Staff and other golfers are the friendliest I have met on a course around here.

Test course

First nine holes in the middle of the race course. But this makes it tight and interesting. Next nine are in woodland with some very challenging dog-legs.

Really enjoyed the round, very testing, really enjoyable.

Challenging

Like playing on two different courses

The front 9 which has a few holes around water and the back 9 where you are under the shade of the shade of the trees with water hazards

Great !

Good course!

A good course found using the app, front 9 is very tight and challenging, set within the race track but very good. Back 9 in a more scenic setting and nice to play.

Value for money was great, can’t complain at all, friendly staff and easy to find.
