Better than ever
Played this course many times in all conditions over the years. Today was the best ive seen it, absolutely superb.
It has been a little worse for wear in recent times: long grass on fairways greens unkempt etc but got there today and was so pleasantly suprised i had to write a review as it does get bad press. A credit to the groundstaff. Will be back more often.
Grass needed cutting & no yardage markers
Grass was long for fairways and greens, also no yardage markers, so didn’t have a clue on distance to pin....apart from that ok
Poor
Staining Lodge has the potential to be a really nice course but it is way off. The grass on the fairways is too long in places, you can’t distinguish between fairways and the first cut in others - the first cut is more like the rough on some holes. Losing balls on the fairway is just ridiculous. I’ve played at much better courses where, width-wise, they have quite forgiving fairways. However, here some of the fairways are far too narrow and there’s really no need for it. The potential weather conditions on the Fylde Coast already make this a challenging course. £21 for a round on a freezing, windy Sunday afternoon is far too much as well. I can’t fault the staff there but it would appear that the Lodge itself and the business that creates is more of a concern than the course itself. There are some good holes here that, with a bit of investment and course design could be so much better.
Very poor save your money
Played the course on Sunday 24 March it was like playing on a farmers field you could not tell the fairways from the rough so it was easy to loose your ball on the so called fairway. All this for 21 pound each I will never play there again.
Course needs a little TLC
I’ve always enjoyed playing here, friendly staff, fantastic value for money. £13.
Unfortunately today the course looked a bit tatty, compared to the several other times I’ve played here.
Can’t wait to see it back to its best.
Poor course!
Played the course yesterday and was very disappointed in the condition. They still let buggies on and they’re cutting the course apart! The fairway to rough has no definition at all! You can hit a shot straight down the middle and you can still lose your ball because it will just plug into the marshy land or it will get lost in the long grass that is supposed to be fairway.
I have played Staining on numerous occasions and this is the worst I have ever seen it. I won’t be coming back anytime soon.
Never been disappointed.
Always happy to play at Staining.
Lots of players aren’t keen on the layout,
I think it’s fine.
Will always look to play here.
Back again !
Always a great welcome from all the staff
Wonderful lunch and a very friendly course at a good level for all golfers
Just OK
Course ok but disappointing. . Distance markers not very clear. Obviously they prefer male players as not very welcoming to ladies 4ball.
No food available after 3.30pm .
Think this venue is concentrating on the cafe/restaurant customers. Golfers not as welcome. Went elsewhere for a meal and drinks .
Out and About
A local course but not somewhere we had been before. I read the previous reviews before going so was a little apprehensive about the fairways. The fairways were in very good condition I thought but that was the best part of the course. Greens had been scarified recently which I find very late in the year to be done. I would normally expect it around the end of April beginning of May. Even accounting for this factor, the greens were in very poor condition. Dry, bobbly, uneven and random holes on almost every green. Not un-repaired pitch marks either. I didn't find a bunker today so can't comment on the quality of those. It is a fairly new course and it is a bit featureless but you would expect that given the location of where they have built the course. Basically I assume it is reclaimed farmland. I paid £16 today and wouldn't want to pay anymore than that. I doubt I will be back. The Clubhouse is lovely and the staff friendly, but I think that recent expenses have been spent on other things rather than the course.
A friendly, laid back course
Had a great round of golf. Perfect pace and not too busy even for a Bank Holiday. Friendly owner.
Had a snack in clubhouse after, which was very nice.
All fairways full of cut grass
Have played here before but only in the winter months,so,as you'd expect, the course isn't perfect by far.
Disappointingly, after going y'day, full of expectation, granted, the weather wasn't great & hasn't been fantastic but the fact that just about every fairway was covered with cut grass so you couldn't find your ball was really disappointing to say the least.
The greens were in pretty good nick but removing the grass after it's cut is surely a basic right on a fairway isn't it ?
We went to Lytham Green Drive the previous week and the course was immaculate & £5 cheaper !!.the only reason we didn't go y'day was because of times.i doubt I'll go staining again,I'll just make time work somehow.
Was on the course y'day & granted the weather didn't help any matters but as an very amateur golfer,I found the course, generally the fairways in poor condition.all the grass cuttings left everywhere made it difficult to find balls & I thought for £18.50 is a pretty poor do.i won't be going back in a hurry
Enjoyable day out
We are a nomad group who enjoy all types of course. This course made for a very relaxing game without it being a trek and not too difficult
SuperGJ 72
Always a warm welcome, great family course. All the amenities you'd expect. I played for £13. Course in great condition.
The only downside would be for senior players on the back 9. Very up/down. Will be coming back.
Good but long course
Well maintained fairways. Good greens. Second nine quite long.
excellent greens
Course in excellent condition on fairways and greens.
friendly staff in clubhouse and bar.
Way too muddy
The course was close to unplayable today. Hitting a straight drive down the fairway and then not finding the ball because it's plugged/sunk in the mud isn't my idea of golf.
With a decent spell of dry weather the course is way more enjoyable with a variety of holes/challenges.
I shall be back, but not whilst you sink walking down the fairways!
One more thing I forgot to add and you would think it a basic requirement for all courses. Very few distance markers around the course. The ones they do have are in terrible spots so second shots are all down to judgement.
