Good course for good golfers
The course is too long and difficult for average players, particularly for older players, Even from the senior tees the course plays long because of some of the obstacles you have to carry and some blind shots.
Great course - incredible fairways and greens
Heard the course had a lot of work done over the last couple of years. Fairways are incredible, greens are firm and beautiful.
Tough course our first go. Course temps you but requires precision. Will be back many times.
Not for the faint of heart..
This course is very challenging. I imagine there are harder courses out there, but this is not a course you want to go to if you can't hit it long, straight, and accurate.
The Good:
It is absolutely beautiful and very well kept. Sand traps have great drainage and the greens were moderately fast. Very few dead grass spots. Every hole is a picture! Range balls included, and club house clean and nice. Carts have amenities (USB Charger, cooler) and cart girl saw us 3 times, and even went out of her way to get matches for us.
The Bad:
There is little to no forgiveness off the tee box. Plenty of tee shots over 100+ yards of 'No Man's Land' to reach fairway, with OB or unsearchable fescue left and right. In our foursome, at least 2 dozen balls were lost off the tee, plus more throughout the course. The rough is narrow and turns into tall fescue/weeds/woods within 10 yards of the fairway (more lost balls). Greens are undulating and pin locations, today anyway, were tortuous.
Of our foursome, everyone played about 10 over average on this course from the Golds.
For $100, I can find courses where the golf isn't so hard it will ruin my outing, but you don't know until you play it.
Love this place
I love the layout. We had nobody in front of us, nobody behind us. It was like we owned the place. Weather was very hot and not having the beverage cart on the course was very disappointing. The conditions were very good with the greens just a touch bumpy. Overall a very good day at a place that I love.
Great round with two lifelong buddies.
Course was in really good shape for a 90+ degree stretch of weather. Tees are flat with ample fresh locations to tee from. Fairways were new carpet grade. Greens were true. Fast today with very readable breaks. Fairly wide fairways with bunkers to challenge your drive location. Greens well protected and multi tiered. Jack would be proud of their upkeep of his design. Carved out of the old forest on Cherry Hill, there are stretches of cart path through the woods to allow a break from the July sun. All around enjoyable and challenging course. Shout out to Cat who was our server on the Club patio with a welcoming smile and great meal and beverage service for three hot, tired, thirsty golf buddies. Recommend!!!!!.
Great course and Great Shape
This is a fun and challenging course with great views and a super friendly staff
Ignore Old Reviews
If you are reading any reviews older than say 6 months they can be ignored. The course has under gone a renovation and is now in fantastic shape. The fairways and greens and in excellent shape. To be fair the greens were a little slower than I would have liked. Tee boxes are in good shape also. The course does have a lot of bunkers so if you struggler there you may be in for a long day. Be warned the course is a loop and does not come back to the club house after the 9th hole. They sell hot dogs on the cart but they are not very hot. On any blind shots I would suggest driving up so you are not surprised, they bite me a couple of times.
Potomac Shores
Very well maintained, staff was extremely friendly and helpful. Price is always very high here, so getting a good deal online was too good to pass up.
Great conditions
This was a great course, that was in fantastic shape. Fairways and greens were immaculate. Pace of play was average.
Beautiful Course.
This course was recommended to me by a friend who lives in the area. The course exceeded expectations. The course was in perfect condition and the layout is beautiful. Played from the Gold tees which is about 6,500 yards. Tee boxes and greens were in great shape. Pro shop staff was friendly and inviting. The starter Harry was extremely friendly and gave us a great send off before we hit the first tee. We played in the afternoon for $59 which is a great value for this course. We ate after our round at the onsite restaurant which had great food. I would highly recommend this course if you’ve never played it.
Under appreciated
I’m shocked that the reviews of this course aren’t as high as I would expect. The new fairways were in pristine shape. With them being so smooth, you can really take advantage of all the undulations and elevation the course offers. It makes for a really stimulating round that will keep you thinking. Only visited one bunker but it was in great shape with plenty of soft sand. Greens were firm and rolled true. Tee boxes were a bit beat up but not nearly as bad as similar tier public courses are. Beverage cart came by four times. Our round took 3:40. There is literally nothing I could complain about. If you’ve played here in the past and had a bad experience, you will be seriously rewarded for giving them another shot.
Problems corrected
If you scroll below, you are bound to see some bad reviews for this course, as it looks like it had a bad 2017-2019. Whatever those problems were, they have been corrected. The course was in fantastic condition, with teeboxes, fairways and greens showing no signs of issues.
The only thing I would suggest to the course owners is working with the GPS providers to fix the hole routing. There has been a change and its weird to figure out what hole your GPS is measuring versus what hole you are actually on. Truly, a nitpick if there ever was one.

Great first experience
First time playing at Potomac Shores and will definitely play it again. Been living in the area for a year and this is by far the best course I've played. The course was immaculate, challenging and well staffed. Highly recommend playing here, I don't believe you will be disappointed.
Great Layout
Good value, great layout. Fairway conditions good, rough ok, tee boxes fair, and greens smooth but very slow.
Friendly staff, tasty menu choices, and nice outdoor "19th hole" overlooking 16th hole, which used to be 18th hole.
Great Improvement
Potomac Shores has improved since my last visit (2018). It is definitely not a course for a walkers. The new re-routing makes for some long spaces between some holes. However, it is nice to finish on what was Hole #3; unless you don't like to hit your approach over a wide gully
The fairways and greens have improved and should get better when the weather warms up. Their was a beverage cart out with snacks and food. I will play there again...soon.
.
Nice course kinda pricey
Great course condition was great. $90 pp and no military discount on weekends. Guess military is only valued on weekdays.
