New Chester greens are excellent
Played on the new Chester nine champion.g12 greens this morning. They were excellent especially considering this morning was the 1st day since they were sprigged earlier this summer. Now independent and Chester have new greens and by the end of summer they plan to have vintage re-done. If you have not played the new greens, head to mount vintage soon. The most scenic course in the area and really good rates on golf now.
nice layout
the course has a great layout but the greens need help.but it is being worked on and by the of year it should be great
Vintage Greens
Independent is in pretty good shape and a beautiful scenic 9 holes. However, Vintage was very disappointing as the greens were diseased. If all 18 holes looked like the Independent nine, the course would be phenomenal.
The greens on the Vintage course had some kind of fungus on them. Some holes were real bad. The Independent course was excellaent!
Still needs work
Great layout! Have played a total of 5-6 times before the course went off the rails a few years ago. Decided to play again as I heard it was in much better shape. Clearly the Homeowners are spending money and it is not unnoticed. Played Chester and Independence. Fairways were good to excellent for the most part. Greens not so much on either. Independence has new greens but they are spotty. I'm sure with time it will be in shape but for the $49 I can play other courses with in 1 hour and not have to deal with the frustrations. On a positive note the staff are dynamite, friendly and clearly schooled on how a great golf course can be operated. The course is catching up... I do hope soon because when its in shape its a very nice day in the county...
Worth the trip
The Vintage and Independent nine are open, while the Chester nine is still waiting for the Champion greens to fill in. Vintage is still bent grass meaning the first 3 greens were very spotty, however starting from the 4th hole on, there was marked improvement in the greens. The fairways are in great condition and this is a beautiful layout, quiet, beautiful woods, water, all excellent. This was our first time so some of the blind tee shots put us off. The GPS on our phone was not working well..so take your laser range finder. There are no yardage books! The Independent nine is Champion and on a few greens the patchwork sodding was noticeable, however, this did not impact the roll much. The Champion seems a bit slower than bent grass, still quality greens. I can't wait for the Chester nine to be ready. From Columbia the drive was well worth it and the green fees are modest for the quality of course. The course at 11 am Saturday wasn't all that busy. There is a fair amount of elevation change, so I would encourage the higher handicap golfer to beware. Definitely planning a trip in the fall to check it out again. We had a great time!
Going Downhill
I played Mt Vintage about a month ago and thought that the condition of the course might be because it hadn’t had a chance to fully fill in. However, now that it’s June it’s had its chance. Some of the tee boxes on the Vintage course were almost fully void of grass and way too many of the greens had large patches that were dead and almost mossy. The fairways seem to be in pretty good shape. I think that if I’m going to pay more than $30 to play, I should expect the course to be in better shape. I can see where some of the greens have been patched but it’s got a ways to go. Staff are always very friendly and helpful.
The fact of the matter is that Mt Vintage is out in the middle of nowhere and it looked like they didn’t have a whole lot of people playing that day. To attract more, they need the course to be in better shape or offered at a lower price. But I imagine that to get the course in better shape, they probably need more revenue from more players. Catch 22.
Always a joy to play.
The greens on Chester not as good as those on Vintage. There were some extremely thin spots on them. The fairways were great.
Classy place mediocre course
Clubhouse is beautiful. Staff is very friendly. Golf and beers very reasonably priced. Hardly anyone on the course, so played quickly. Don’t care much for course layout. Way too many sharp doglegs and blind tee shots. One hole (maybe 5th) on Chester that is sloped so severely right to left and down that it’s almost impossible to keep it in the fairway and not lose it without hitting it right of the fairway. Greens were decent but have some spotty areas here and there. Fairways were pretty good but have some thin areas too.
The course was in very good shape for the first week of May. The greens rolled a little inconsistent but that is common around the state now. Staff was very friendly and the weather was great.
Great driving range
Love the layout,it is very challenging, lots of uphill and downhill shots. Would definitely play again.
Course was good, I think the fairways still need some improvement, the greens were a little slow and the overall course was in subpar condition. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful..
nice layout
only bad parts of course, traps need work and grass needs to fill in with hot weather. some greens need help but most are great
Masters Sunday
Excellent course rolling hills and multiple elevation changes with beautiful water hazards and a great way to end Masters week the the boys.
Can’t wait to play again.
I listed as first time playing this course because it’s been 10+ years since I played this course. I’ve heard they were bringing this course back to life after a few tough years. Let me start by saying that they are doing a fantastic job. This course is looking great. The greens were a little slower than I like but I can tell they are working hard to make the A+ green. They are about a B+ and roll smooth. The course is a beast and I can’t wait to get back out there soon to hopefully tame this wonderful beast. Also, the views are amazing, the staff is great, and the amenities are some of the best in our area. Thanks Mount Vintage for a wonderful day of Golf.
Getting Back to where it used to be
I have been playing this course for 10 years. It went from being fantastic and my favorite to awful and a disgrace. It is not quite back to the top but it is definitely heading there --fast!
