Excellent
Very well maintained course. Excellent fairways. Fast and tricky greens. Its a long way from the coast but worth the effort. Looking forward to playing again
As Good As it Gets
Have played Lakewood National several times and it reminded me again today just how impressive this course is. It was in PGA Tour condition (and it’s May with many folks already having gone north, so every incentive not to keep it in a refined state.). Where in the Bradenton/Sarasota area can you find a huge practice range with balls included, impeccably kept tees (with seven tee positions) and fairways, and beautifully uniform greens with carpet soft slopes surrounding them? Of course, your greeted at the curb, your clubs are put on the cart, and your treated respectfully by all. And here’s the kicker, we got a Golfnow deal on top of all of that. It doesn’t get much better than that!
Best Course Open To The Public In The Area
Used a "Hot Deal" to tee off early in the afternoon. Paired with two other golfers who were as excited as I was to get on this great course. Simply put: This is the best conditioned non-private golf course you will find anywhere. The greens are fast as light and the areas around the greens are in such condition that you can putt your ball from 20+ yards off the green if you so desire. Staff is very friendly and works to make sure your experience is a memorable one. Tip: If you do play this course go a bit early and use their range and practice greens. They are the best this duffer has ever seen.
One of Florida's best residential layouts
Florida gets justifiably mixed reviews for its golf. There are several first-order private and resort courses, but there are also a lot of disappointing layouts routed through housing developments, offering little but the opportunity to lose a ball on every tee shot.
Luckily, Lakewood National is not one of those courses. Yes, there are houses and condos looking over every hole, but Arnold Palmer Course Design architect Brandon Johnson did a wonderful job of advocating for appropriately wide corridors where the golfer never feels claustrophobic. On top of that, the bunkering and green complexes are excellent, enhanced by a tendency toward firm, fast conditioning. Bold contours and interesting slopes make for several fun full and short shots, making Lakewood National worthy of repeat play. Peak-season rates do venture above $100, but the course delivers.
Don’t miss
Great course. Fairways almost as fast as the greens. Pristine conditions everywhere. Lots of targets on the driving range.
This was the best course that I have played since moving to Florida. Everything was in pristine condition .Driving range putting green and the whole course in general. Can’t say enough good things about this course. Don’t pass up this course, you wiould be disappointed .
This course is long, beautiful and challenging!
We were greeted with an on the spot bag drop man, as soon as we arrived, courtesy from EVERY staff person our round. The pro shop did not have the balls I play, yet, they offered me knowledge on comparable balls. We were paired up with a member, could not have been a greater person to play with, he was helpful on the course and very enjoyable to play with! They have a great cart girl, "comfort center" bathrooms, ice, water a couple of places on the course. The course is in immaculate condition, fairways clean long and beautiful, greens are fast, they get your attention. Not a course to pass up, if you happen to pair up with Mr. Smith, your day is golden.
Great condition
Course was in great condition, the staff was so friendly and helpful.
Outstanding Course
This course is absolutely one of the finest courses in Southwest Florida. The tee boxes and fairways are very lush. There are absolutely no weeds or bare spots anywhere on the course.. My hats off to the grounds crew for an outstanding job in keeping this course so prestine. The fairways do have some roll to them. The greens are fast 11.5 on the stimp meter and undulating but fair, spending time practice putting helps getting used to the speed. Large driving range with plenty of practice balls to warm up. This is definitely a must play course. Looking forward to going back.
Impeccable conditions with some ridiculous pun placements
This is a gem!!!! What else can one ask for from a design from The King?!
Fairways were pristine and the greens while lightning fast at 11.6 rounding above 12 in afternoon sun were a lot of fun at this speed. Took some getting use to the speed on chipping and putting. Picked up momentum on the back nine which made it special!
This is a must play course!!!! It is at the level of Torrey Pines in a totally different style obviously or perhaps a hair off that quality and not more! Amazing variety and imagination is required. So much fun on a perfect Florida day!!!!
1st time playing the course, overall "AWESOME"
I got a single Hot Deal for 10:00 A.M. on Golfnow and was kinda taken-a-back when I got there and they just threw my bag on someone else's cart. I mean I've heard of pairing people up, but you usually have your own cart. Luckily we got along ok. We also had a 3rd join us and I'm just wondering where is the 4th 10:00 A.M. player? Anyway, not a huge deal, but what happens if someone doesn't get along or just wants to ride alone? What will you tell a paying customer? Other than that, I had a great day on this beautiful golf course. I didn't shoot very well (96) but did have 2 birdies on 13 and 17. Pace of play was excellent, I don't think I saw anyone in front or behind us all day. Fairways are lush and the greens were fast like they should be, also true greens. You can see your line and that's exactly where the ball goes. Overall, it was an awesome experience and I'll be back, definitely!
