Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
About
Although Chateau Elan Golf Club & Resort is just 40 minutes from Atlanta, the panoramic views of the north Georgia foothills make it feel much further from the city. The club boasts two public championship courses and a nine-hole course as well as The Legends, a private golf club. In addition to the golf, Chateau Elan is also home to a full production winery. The Chateau Course is one of the public championship golf courses. The layout wanders across 170 acres, winding around a lake and two creeks. Water, not surprisingly, comes into play on more than half of the holes but there are also 87 bunkers strategically placed throughout to watch out for. There is thick Bermuda rough bordering the contoured fairways too. It is more open than the slightly more challenging Woodlands Course, the other public championship golf course.

This was the #13 green if i'm not mistaken. Can see how nice the sand bunkers were and how nice the green was. Photo submitted by bryan6804634 on 09/16/2016
great,but five hours,stunk
5 hrs, need a clock in the carts that keeps prodding the slow sobs. not one ranger all day
Very slow on weekends
I have played this course during the week many times but after just playing on a Saturday I think I'll be playing here just during week days!! We had a 10:28am tee time. Showed up at #1 tee box at 10:15 and the starter told me we had 4 groups ahead of us and its going to be 30 minutes before we could tee off. So I was not sure why we needed to set up a tee time! The front nine was at least two to three foursome wait on nearly every hole but it did spread out a bit on the back. Course was in pretty good shape but I've seen it better! Summing up, we had a 10:28 tee time and walked off 18th green at 4:40 pm.
Great Saturday afternoon
Have played the course many times, but this was the first time in a little while. As usual, the course itself was in above average condition. The fairways were super and the rough is getting pretty difficult. Miss the fairway and pretty good chance you can only wedge it back out. Greens were good, but some of the pin positions seemed pretty tracked up which probably had something to do with the day I played being in between days of the AJGA playing a tourney. Played with 2 others teeing off Saturday afternoon at 4:00 and completing 18 at 7:15. That is superb.
great course for the price
Course in very good shape especially in light of all the rain over the past several weeks. Greens a little bumpy due to softness but roll very well. Only knock is pace of play. Groups were four deep on number one tee box and took nine holes for pace to finally pickup.
Really good golf course. Well maintained.
Golf course is in very good condition. 1 or 2 tee boxes are rough but ok considering all the rain we have had. 1 green had aeration grooves but not so bad as to interfere with play. This is a really good golf course and for the money, a great course!
Keep it in the fairway
The course is in great shape, especially the greens. Although I haven't played here in about a year, I didn't remember the fairways being quite so narrow. There is no intermediate cut--you either find the fairway or you're in very healthy Bermuda rough. It is so deep on some holes that your ball can disappear within a yard or two of the fairway. So hit it straight or bring plenty of balls.
Great course at a great price!
After having played the Woodlands course a couple of times, I tried the Chateau course on Sunday. I had the first tee time (6:28a) so we didn't have worry about anyone in front of us. The course was in great shape, but a little wet in some places. On one par 3, my tee shot literally splashed and buried 3 feet right of the green. Outside of that somewhat amusing experience, the fairways were in great shape (not a weed to be found), and the greens were fantastic. They really do a great job with the upkeep at this course.
The only "knock" is that the course layout is a little "odd", as compared to the Woodlands course. There is some back-tracking of holes to get from green to next tee, and for someone's first time on the course, you weren't always sure if you were headed in the right direction. But again, small knock.
Overall, great course. And for only $35, great value. I've paid 4x that for courses (in other states) not half as nice.
Stay in the fairway
Tough course if you get in the rough. Very high and thick. Some holes were let it rip, some had landing or target areas to hit to, so a nice mix. Would have been nice to see a picture of the hole on the scorecard or at the tee, playing blind if you are playing for the first time. Greens were very good, ball held and there was just enough undulations to make them fun to putt. Some of the tees could use a lot of work as far as grass, mostly the par 3s. For $35 and being the first one off, completed as a 2 some in 3 hrs. Will definitely play it again for that price and time. Hear the Woodlands course is nice also.
Fun times
Course in good shape gets a little narrow in places but a fun nice course to play.
We paid little, and received a lot!
Tee time @ 7:16 AM - The course was in amazing shape and the greens were so fresh and green that it almost looked fake but they certainly were not. We played early so the greens were a little damp but very playable. First time I've ever hit a 130yrd pitch and had the ball plug into green, obviously very soft but still very playable. The only negative thing of the day was that there were no water coolers set out for the day. At about the 17th hole we finally saw the guy going around to put out the water coolers (10:30AM). Over all AMAZING DEAL...$35
Great course, great deal
Played Chateau on a Friday afternoon and loved it. Not crowded, course in great shape, except greens a little high. Will do this again and again!
very challenging and diverse
Loved it will play again, very hard but fair course lots of wide fairways, pristine greens and well kept bunkers.
Great experience
Great track, staff was very accommodating, good test for single digit handicappers from the tips and for my spouse who is a 15. We will be back.
Well maintained!
Super friendly staff and great practice facilities. Great pace with early morning play; sand traps and fairways in great shape; greens have very few ball marks needing repair ( a miracle with today's players).
Superb conditioning, good pace of play, and a fair test.
I played the Chateau course in late June and it was in excellent condition. The course has a nice variety of holes, and is a challenging but fair layout. Greens rolled at moderate speed, and were consistent throughout the course. They also accept approach shots better than most comparable courses. #17 is a great risk-reward par 4. The par 4's are the strength of the course - Par 3's and Par 5's are nice holes, but nothing memorable.
Excellent...as usual
Very well maintained course. Greens have rebounded perfectly from micro-perf aeration two weeks ago. They roll true but a little slow...course is well maintained as usual. Only knock was absence of a marshall - we waited a minute or two frequently as the group in front of us was meticulously slow and could not stay tight to the group in front of them. Love the layout and enjoy the service.
Very Impressed with the layout of the course and the maintaining of the conditions.
I would recommend this course to anyone. It is well worth the price and conditions are pristine. Probably one of the best courses I've played in the area.
Great, Fun course in fantastic condition
Its a beautiful course and not many people out there so you'll play as quick as you want. Greens were really nice. Not overly long but really challenging.
Great staff and wonderful golfing
Extremely well maintained course. A lot of fun to play with some nice scenery.
Best I've ever seen it.
I had not played the Chateau course in at least ten years, because my friends and I thought it was way over priced for the condition of the course. Well, They had it looking great; and with the golf now deal, we thought it was excellent.
