Chateau Elan Golf Club - Chateau Course
About
Although Chateau Elan Golf Club & Resort is just 40 minutes from Atlanta, the panoramic views of the north Georgia foothills make it feel much further from the city. The club boasts two public championship courses and a nine-hole course as well as The Legends, a private golf club. In addition to the golf, Chateau Elan is also home to a full production winery. The Chateau Course is one of the public championship golf courses. The layout wanders across 170 acres, winding around a lake and two creeks. Water, not surprisingly, comes into play on more than half of the holes but there are also 87 bunkers strategically placed throughout to watch out for. There is thick Bermuda rough bordering the contoured fairways too. It is more open than the slightly more challenging Woodlands Course, the other public championship golf course.

This was the #13 green if i'm not mistaken. Can see how nice the sand bunkers were and how nice the green was. Photo submitted by bryan6804634 on 09/16/2016
Good Shape for Winter Conditions
Greens were sanded a few days ago, but we were aware of this when we booked. Tee boxes and fairways still dormant but otherwise OK for winter conditions. Staff always friendly and very attentive. Got reduced rate because of sanded greens, so the value was good. Teed off early morning and was finished in 3.5 hours. Course was getting crowded as we were leaving.
Good value using Golfnow.
I always enjoy playing Chateau Elan but this time the course was not in the same great shape that I am used to. The fairways and traps were in good shape for winter play. Several tee boxes had virtually no grass on them. Come on guys, rye is cheap! The greens also had some kind of weed growing on them. They rolled true but looked splotchy. The clubhouse and cart guys were friendly, polite and accommodating. The cart girl was hot and nice too. Overall I thought it was a good value for $39 on Golfnow.
Do not attempt if you are handicapped unless you get a flag.
With a verified disability you can go anywhere, except within 5 yards of the green, even on par 3's.
I love this course.
In the summer it is in excellent shape. I played in winter conditions which are never pristine.
nice place
Course is in great shape for winter! Greens are great and course layout is very playable. I am handicap of a 6 and really enjoyed the course. Will be playing again.
Longest round of my life!
We had a frost delay that was handled so poorly by the course that we spent 5 1/2 hours on the course. they threw some of us out on # 10 to start, with no regard to the tee times later. When we made the turn to start our back nine on #1 there were four groups waiting. Luckily the fivesome that was in front of us stopped for lunch at the turn. This was the longest, slowest, least enjoyable round of golf I have ever played. The long waits made each shot feel like the first of the day. I don't know if I will ever go back.
Not what I expected
Let me start by saying that this is not a bad course at all. It's a good course layout in pretty good condition. But the reason I only gave it 3 stars was the price you have to pay. I expected a much much nicer course for what is charged. I know it's getting later in the season but when you pay a premium you expect pristine conditions. There are several courses around the Atlanta area that are in better condition for much less. Some greens were a little spotty but still rolled relatively well. Fairways were good for the most part. Bunkers were a little unkept although not bad. All in all the course is good, just not as good as price says it is. I would have been upset if I had payed anywhere close to full price. I would rate it as about a $35 course.
Course great, but....
Was 4:30 when we finished and we couldn't grab a beer after the round as the clubhouse was closed????? Thought that was strange, but the course was in great condition and greens were rolling great.
Great course, great value and I would definitely play there again!
Staff was outstanding and very personable. Course was in great shape. Want to stay in the fairway, because the rough is tough to hit from. Greens were some of the best that I have played on and very consistent throughout the course. I played alone and other players on the course were exceptionally nice about letting me play through. Score didn't reflect how well I played and I look forward to playing it again for hopefully a better outcome.
Great shape
The fairways and the greens were is great shape. We had a great time. The only thing was that twice we had to let a single play through. That seems like a lot on a Saturday afternoon.
busy with outing
The course was in good condition and very playable. There was an company outing there and the staff was busy and service was down.
The greens were inconsistant and the play was extremley slow.

Course was good
Course in good shape. Grass was up and crew was mowing while we played. Had to wait a couple times for them to clear out of fairway.
Greens just aerated
It had been a while since I played this course - I forgot how difficult it can be from the back tees! Course is in overall good shape. The fairways are great; the rough is thick and penalizing; the greens had just been punched, so they were a bit bumpy and SLOOOOW! Some soggy spots out there around the greens - had a few plugged balls including most shots into the greens. I played on Labor Day, and it was not crowded at all - played with one other guy, and we made it around in about 3:15.
Great condition given the greens were punched the day before.
This was a great deal on a great track. Last moment thought, multiple times available on a Holiday Weekend. Time and price was right on. Fairways in great shape. The greens were just punched, but no sand, so ball ran straight, no break. No Birdies either.
Like the course and layout but the conditions were marginal.
Greens were long and needed cutting. Did not appear they had been cut this AM. Our tee time was 7:58 AM. Course was sloppy wet in many places....like someone turned the sprinklers on and forgot to turn them off.
Excellent test of golfing skills
This course can be played from a variety of different tees. From the tips it will be quite a challenge with a diverse variety of holes.
Great Value for this type of course
This is a course that I play a lot. I would not play it if I could not book it via Golf Now it would be cost prohibitive. Unfortunately the course was very wet. We have had a lot of rain in Georgia this summer. The last four holes were in the best shape and dry so scoring was a premium on these holes. In dry conditions it is a great course. You can't miss fairways on this course the ruff is thick. The fairways are narrow so driver is only needed on the par fives I try to play there once a week if its not raining. Beautiful scenery and if you are staying at the hotel you will not be disappointed. The rating above is not indicative of the course and management of the course. The rain has hurt all the courses in north georgia
The course enjoyed me
I played this course for the first time on Friday, August 9th while on my honeymoon. My Uncle treated me to two great rounds of golf this week, on each of the Chateau courses.
I found this course to be extremely challenging. I enjoyed it, but it enjoyed me more. I struggled to keep the ball in the fairways and was penalized heavily for it, as the Bermuda rough was quite deep, and intimidating.
Beautiful course, in great condition, but extremely difficult on this particular day.
Some spectacular homes surronding course.
Have to keep your focus or the course will penalize you. The rough is high and errant tee or approach shot that goes in will cost strokes. A challenge but fun golf course.
good solid course with golf now rates
Chateau course good layout. Nice variety of holes used most of bag for the shots around course. Greens in pretty good shape.
