Slow pace not maintained well
The pace of play was extremely slow. The fairways had no consistency with hard pack dirt in parts and swampy areas in others. The rough around the greens was patchy and uneven, and the greens were extremely slow and had no true roll. Obviously most people who play this course don't know golf etiquette and don't fix divots or ball marks.
Course conditions interfere with a solid layout.
It's been a long time since I've played Skywest and it will probably be a while before I play it again, unless I hear conditions have changed. The staff is very friendly and the facilities have it all, although half of the range mats were as hard as rock.
The course at the end of summer was wet and sloppy in way to many spots. With today's technology the ability to control even a single sprinkler has been ignored, or not yet installed. Either way there's no excuse for it. Fairways are mostly green but are covered with a variety of types of grass and weeds making it difficult to get consistent lies.
Most of this could be overlooked if it wasn't for the conditions of the greens. Come on guys, mow them daily at speeds faster than five on the Stempmeter. Also feel free to change the cups while your at it.
Some of the tees were uneven and not closely mowed. A third of the cart paths were impassable in spots because of pot holes or standing water.
Bunkers were well maintained and seemed to be filled with new and fluffy sand.
The restaurant was fair to midland, with service being attentive and Burgers and fries were good, but the meat on the Ruben sandwich was tougher than putting on these greens.
Despite these listed negatives, the course is a fun and medium challenging layout from the back tees.
Overall I would recommend Skywest if just the greens were better maintained, as the other stuff takes time and money to fix.
Narrow fairways, lots of overgrown trees, spongy greens
I had not played this course in a few years because I generally do not like the condition of the greens. They are ultra-soft and much bumpier than most of the public courses in the area.
The fairways are extremely narrow, with trees lining each hole. It appears that the trees have not been trimmed in years. You must stay on fairways or you will end up in dense rough or in the woods. Throw in a number of water hazards, and you will see why the pace of play is so slow.
This could be a much better course if it were cared for properly. The driving range is a joke and needs to be updated.
Long and good value
The green is way too slow. aaaaaaaaaaaaaaa aaaaaaaaa
Great value!!!
Course was very wetin some spots to the point that there were muck holes in some fairways, and other spots were rock hard and bone dry!! With that said the course was in much better shape then when i played a couple years ago!!! The greens were in great shape, and the sand was also better then most value courses ive played!! I will play again soon!!
This course has an air plain airport at the side so it is so much noise on the course!
This golf course it is challenge it has all fairways nice greens are uneven
Wasn't What I Expected
The staff was accomodating and friendly. One in my 4-some was arriving late so we informed the starter guy to let him proceed to whichever hole we were at once he arrived. The staff was so generous to take him on a cart to catch up with us with his gear. That's what I call awesome kind of service!
But I was so disappointed with the condition of the course. My cousin whose from the area, also was one in our 4-some, told me that I chose a nice course. He told me he was also surprised how it has changed because he said it used to be pristine condition.
I am from Midwest, so what I expected was better green conditions because of California weather. It wasn't what I expected.
Good value if you get a cheap rate
I played on a weekday afternoon and enjoyed my outing. The course is not in great condition. The fairways have lots of dead, dry areas, but the greens are decent. It's enjoyable if you know what to expect. It's a long course even from the white tees. Almost all of the par 4s are close to or longer than 400 yards. You can generally bomb away but there are hazards on several holes that can get you in trouble. Temperatures can be cooler than inland, which is nice on a summer day. Enjoy it if it's $25 or less.
Pace of play
Just a comment for the pace of play - the marshalls should have been there to usher the players to promote a faster pace of play.
The players were not repairing their ball marks and so it left the greens in bad shape.
thanks enjoyable atmosphere
thanks had a blast pace of play good like the location from sf to Hayward
An economical and refreshing way to spend a free afternoon.
A good way to spend an afternoon. There was a nice breeze, probably because of its location near the bay. I started out as a single and after 5 holes, I doubled up with the single ahead of me. By the 10th hole the 2-some behind us caught up with us and we finished as a 4-some. I'm 81 and the course was a tad long. The staff and fellow players were friendly. I would rate the condition of the course as fair to good.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing the course.
We had great weather conditions and I had a super low rate. That made it even more enjoyable.
Great for the price
Nice lined fairways. Great for long hitters. Keep it in the fairway.
all of the greens are spongy and bumpy
all of the greens are spongy and bumpy. they need to address the problem but nobody cares. mowing and rolling will do the job.
The greens appear that they have not been cut for several days.
The greens appear that they have not been cut for several days. There was not a difference between fairway and greens.
Course not maintained or well run
many issues...
1. we had an 8am tee time and they were already 2 groups behind. The people who checked-in right in front of us paid 40 (since their tee time was before 730am). We got charged 45 which I would not normally complain, but the guy at the front desk was dismissive of my question on why we were being charged more. He said it was a different reservation...no really? Next time I'll book a 6am early bird and show up whenever I want.
2. They sent out doubles and singles on a weekend! Of course it's going to get backed up. We had 4 in our group and we were getting run up on by singles and doubles. How about group those singles and doubles together?
3. Course was very poorly maintained. Greens were cut like fairways, fairways were cut like first cut of rough, rough was unplayable. You should not be able to feel the grass catching your spikes on the green.
Enjoyed it ...
Only thing, play was a little slow... Maybe having a Marshall would help.... besides that, enjoyed playing for the first time... very easy to Tee off, price is great, and the course is in very good condition... I will return...
Good value for the money
Greens have recently been aerated and grass is long, so don't expect to score well...likely goings to add an additional .5 putts per hole.
This is worst course I ever played
This course need a lots of improvement , especially
Putting green and bunker is so bad. I never want to play
This course even for free round.
