Cherokee Run Golf Club
About
Nestled amongst the gently rolling hills of Rockdale County, Cherokee Run Golf Club lies within the Georgia International Horse Park. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay designed the course. Occupied for centuries by the Cherokee Indians, dozens of arrowheads were found in the Georgian red clay as the golf course was being built. The beautiful landscape is covered in granite outcroppings, native wetlands, and dense hardwood forests. The towering trees line the fairways and the steep inclines throughout the course provide fast, undulating greens. Water hazards come into play on six holes at Cherokee Run Golf Club and there are nearly 100 strategically placed bunkers. The course's signature hole is the par-3 third. This challenging hole demands an accurate tee shot in order to safely make it past the sand bunkers that border both sides of the fairway.

April outing
Course was in rough shape , understanding that early season had been wet . Tee boxes were mostly dirt and pretty chopped up . Fairways were also mostly dirt , greens were fast as putting on red Georgia clay with not much chance of holding .
Ugh!
No grass in fairways or rough T box just dirt, no sand in the bunkers. $125 due to Master’s week (Tuesday) but gave a sleeve of Srixons so …$125 Avoid it. It isn’t being maintained. It’s not just that it’s a difficult spring, if t markers were moved maybe the same spot wouldn’t get ruined. No excuse for no sand in bunker- maintenance needed or fill in and seed grass at least there would be some. Arnold rolling over in his grave. The bones are great maybe with some money and work it will get better. Wish we would have gone somewhere else on the way to Augusta
Terrible shape - I paid $100 (discounted) for this?
Treveled down for the Masters with golf at premier courses on the way. This was NOT one of them. The course conditions were just terrible. Does grass go dormant in Georgia in the winter? Not yet recovered? The tees had no grass on them, there were bare spots all over the fairways and the greens were just awful condition. The course is extremely challenging. Especially the greens. Every putt has a pretty significant break. I don't mind getting beaten up by a tough course. But the course was just in disgustingly bad shape. I play public courses in better shape in PA for half the price.

Not worth the money.
Played Masters week. They jacked the prices to $125 per round when a local we played with says he usually pays $50. Most tee boxes were bare. Bunkers were not groomed. Course was not maintained/manicured. The only good about the course was the greens. Rolled true and fast. Not worth the money.
Thank you for taking the time to leave a review. As you know this is peak season in our region and the prices are set accordingly. We think you will find they are very competitive to the courses in the area. We hope to see you back at Cherokee Run Golf Club

Overall its a nice course
It was my first time playing an Arnold Palmer course and I have to say I enjoyed it. It's a fun and challenging course, but the pace of play issues really needs to be addressed. The fairways were in good shape, but the tee boxes were rough and the greens were dormant making it very difficult to hold the green with any shot or stick it close to the pin.
I rated it average due to the pace of play, the first 3-4 holes went smoothly and my buddy and I didn't have to wait for the group ahead of us once. Around hole 5 through hole 18 we waited 5-10 mins every shot. The group ahead of us was playing slowly and taking it a little too seriously just to slice the ball into the woods, and then put another ball down and hit again.
But they also were held up by the foursome in front of them, and they were playing horrendously slow. The course got so backed up from them that the group behind us pulled up to us at every tee box and had to wait for us to tee off, and then hit our approach shots and or chips/puts for getable holes or par 3's. The course does not have a ranger policing the course what so ever, causing us (a twosome) to play a 6 hour round..... There was also no cart girl which was a bummer.
I would recommend it to a friend or play again, would love to play the course and see what its like during the summer and prime conditions.

Great way to spend a beautiful day
Today was the best "weather day" in a 10 day stretch for our area. I could not think of a better way to spend the day. The course was in excellent shape for this time of year. The fairways were outstanding as were the greens. Not sure why we never saw a snack-person on the course, so we had to wait until the turn for food and drinks. Aside from that, it was a perfect day all the way around.
Wow! We are so happy you enjoyed your round, ECrockett1964! We look forward to seeing you again soon at Cherokee Run Golf Club.
Best Value Public Course Near Atlanta
Played the course in early March, when conditions tend to be sketchy at most public/semi-private courses, pending the Spring “green-up”. The layout is challenging and interesting. Some tee boxes were a bit sparse, but the fairways were better than most courses I have played lately and the greens were great. The bunkers actually had sand and were well-maintained (something many courses have neglected as of late).
Overall, I would say that Cherokee Run may be the best value public course in close proximity to Atlanta. Well done.
Thank you for your review, FarmerEd. We will pass along your positive experience to our team at Cherokee Run Golf Club. We look forward to seeing you again soon.
