Course conditions have seriously deteriorated.
In the past this course had excellent maintenance and an enjoyable design. The design is unchanged but the fairways are blighted and the bunkers and greens were barely passable. The pace of play was 4 1/2 hours on a Tuesday afternoon. The group ahead of us was giving on course lessons to each other. Not a marshal in site. I won’t return
Classic muni, very walkable and pretty easy
Reminds me a lot of Poplar Creek in San Mateo. Flat, not a ton of OB, by a freeway, surprisingly nice.
Great friendly course, beautiful all over except back 9 holes.
The course layout, ponds, fairways, greens are excellent. Beautiful white sand pits. However the course beauty is marred by last few holes (13th - 18th) where bunkers look like WWII abandoned. Just little care needed.
Will play there again, if get a chance.
Fun but ratty in places, slow play
Great layout. But in Covid they are not maintaining much, chewed up fairways, bad traps. Lots of slow play here as attracts a lot of drunks and not good players. Also noticed more music playing here than any other course. I don’t need to listen to classic rock while I play. Greens are decent. With cart would not pay more than $40 for it.
Tough day for wet course
I would play here again but on a drier day. Course doesnt drain well and has a lot of no-grass in the fairway and on the tee box.
Fun course and the greens are getting better and better running quite true with good pace
Had a great time playing scores the layout is fun and creative no two holes really seem to feel the same. Some big wide open holes and some tight highly protected shorter holes as well. Good bunkering with Sam that is still playable even when damp. Could use some improvement on the fairways but the green complexes are fair and true.
Course has a good feel all around, you only hit near the freeway for two consecutive holes.
And after playing there a few times you get used to watching the private planes that are taking off from the local airstrip.. it's kind of entertaining and not to disturbing you can just wait a few seconds and the motors roars will pass.
I know from experience they also have a very fun practice facility and par three course that it can challenge players from any level.
I would play this course anytime and the price is right.
slosh pit
played early saturday morning. for whatever reason, it wasnt as busy as i thought a muni should be (compared to poplar, monarch, paradise). complete facility with food, proshop, large putting green, driving range, and chipping area. I appreciate how the marshall was patient with our jr golfer when we were a bit behind. they must have a feral pig problem as many parts of the course were dug up.
Pros - nice flat layout, easy to walk, colored pin placements and yardage markers. once in awhile you will see wild animals; squirrels, fox, hawks and deer.
Cons - expensive to walk on a weekend, the course does not drain well, the course stays very wet throughout the day.
if this course could solve their drainage problem it could be one of the best kept secrets in the bay area.
Fairways bald, greens lumpy, pace was miserable. Maybe if it was $20 it’s be worth it.
nice layout and course that will challenge you
overall course condition is decent only issue are the sand trap, they are more like hard pan since there's not much hand and also compacted when sprinkler dump some water. Putting green are decent but on the slow speed side ,probably due to recent aerification.
speed of play on a Wednesday is exactly 4hrs ,walking which is great,. club house front desk personnel are nice and courteous. great place to play.
Nice Course
Las Positas has water and bunkers throughout the course. It is no pushover. I had a great time will be back.
Good Course for value
Best to make morning tee times. Afternoon tee times plays slow pace and golf carts MUST be returned at 7pm regardless what hole you’re on. You can walk until course closes.
Surprised
I was really surprised on how the fairways looked. Used to play here a while back and they were lovely. Now, fairways looked really bad and maybe it’s because of covid when golf course was closed before and maintenance stopped. Hopefully the course regains it’s luster soon
