Beautiful bayside course Photo submitted by u000001344650 on 07/30/2018
One of the best public course in the Bay Area
Great challenging layout, fairly flat course but lots of bunkers and hazards well placed to account for lack of elevation changes. Fast and large greens with lots of undulation, so work on reading the green or you'll be 3 putting all day. Always very good course condition. I live in San Francisco, but almost never play in the city. TPC Harding park and Presidio are only public worth playing in SF but just way too expensive, even SF Resident rate is $80+ walking! It's worth the gas+toll+time to play in the East Bay instead.
Water Water Everywhere but not enough to irrigate.
Corica Park South received a beautiful and long overdue renovation a few years ago and this was my first replay since the remodel. Always a challenging layout and has become even more so now with much greater green undulations and the removal of about half th previously existing trees, which makes an area with a natural wind factor even tougher. Naturally with the extensive and expensive work comes a dramatic increase in green fees. That is to be expected and still a good value in my mind. The problem is a very clear lack of irrigation ( even in winter ) that will almost certainly return the course to it’s run down dried out (goat pasture) past if continued. It would be a terrible shame to have the potential for such a historic golf course (1927) dissolved due to poor water management My advice is to play it soon, before it and it’s sister course (also undergoing renovation) becomes unplayable again.
One of the best Public Courses in East Bay
I have played the South Course twice since its redesign. It is an excellent walking course with a fun layout and smooth, fast greens.
Practice you’re putting before you go
Practice you’re putting before you go The greens are fast and firm
Truly a great links track.
I am a huge fan of the "new" Corica South course. I have played here several times since it was renovated and have always had a great experience. Very playable and fun, with big greens that are easy to hit, and somewhat tricky to putt well on. The course has the perfect balance between fun and challenge. Two thumbs up!
course conditions cart rental rules & pricing
Being January the course conditions were not expected to be great. The fairways were dry and the grass was short and ground was hard making it difficult to hit fairway woods. Pace of play was slow and greens were really fast due to winter conditions.
Came with great expectations, left underwhelmed
I will preface this review by saying I played in the winter and I don't expect conditions to be great.
The check in experience was great and we got off only a couple minutes late teeing off at 9:30am. Almost immediately things got backed up and it took 2.5hrs to play the front 9, even with a morning tee time. The fairways are not in the greatest shape but bunkers are well maintained.
The course layout is certainly fun with a lot of bunkers and risk/reward shots. The pin placements were pretty brutal with virtually every put being at a slope of some sort.
Overall I didn't see this course as outstanding compared to some of the others around but it is 2x the cost of those and a bit of a pain to get to as well. I would go back if I got a really good deal on GolfNow but would never consider paying anywhere near $100 to walk this course.
Good course but too expensive
Enjoyed playing here as I always have. The pace of play is slow. The course was in decent shape. Considering the rain it drained well. The course is not a $100 course with a cart. Brown spots in the fairways, recently punched greens, and muddy cart path prove otherwise. The staff is always on point, the food and drinks are always amazing. But to pay $70 to $80 to walk...not ride and if you want a cart another $20, but not coming with a GPS...it's totally not worth the price. They're charging Wente, Yocha Dehe, or Poppy Prices without the course, the carts or environment. I'm just saying it's a bit pricey unless you live on the island. As usual I still had a great time with the folks I went out with.
Excellent condition after rainy days
After weeks of rainy days, I was amazed by the the course condition. Green was very fast, and fairway was not wet. This is one of the best course condition I played in last two weeks, including some private clubs. Highly recommended this course.
Great layout but pricey and course conditions need improvement
Played here multiple times when it opened and the course conditions were immaculate. Current conditions need improvement, with weeds and dry grass prevalent throughout course. The great layout would make these conditions tolerable, but for $99, the experience is greatly diminished. I'll play again if I find a discounted rate online. Staff is friendly and fabulous overall.
