18th hole, I tried to play it safe to the left, ended up in a bunker. Unfair Photo submitted by u000005262087 on 01/05/2020

Beautiful bayside course Photo submitted by u000001344650 on 07/30/2018
Huge undulating greens
I really like this course. I think they did a great job redoing the layout, greens, fairways... everything is new! The greens are really large and have crazy undulating surfaces, but they roll true and fast. Depending on the pin placement, each hole can feel like a different hole each time you play here.
And they have likely the best cart gps display I've seen so far. I'm looking forward to when both the 18's are open and available for play.
Links Style Course, for a steal (Twighlight)
This was my first time playing this course. I found it a pretty good challenge, not one that you can simply drive, wedge, and putt in. You will definitely need some strategy and at times great touch to place the ball where it needs to be, especially on the greens which run EXTREMELY fast. The layout was nice, and the obstacles are well placed to keep the average golfer on his/her toes. The back nine can get a bit more windy, but not awful. I thought the driving range was nice and so was the putting green, but I did not see a place to chip. The carts come with a touchscreen display which shows hole location, distances, scores, flyovers and even allows you to order food right from it.
For the value of after 5 p.m, $30 + $15 for cart, I think it was a great deal for how well maintained and manicured this course is.
Solid golf course!!
Impressive design for a flat piece of property. Good bunkering and tough green complexes (very firm right now but hopefully will soften up with time). It is nice to see a tired old course come back to a great second life, more cities should invest in their golf courses like Alameda did!
10/10 - This course is perfect
The fact every review is not 5/5 stars blows my mind. The new renovations to this course make it the best muni course in the bay area, if not the country. Greens are fast and roll true, fairways and rough are LUSH, and the tee's can be set-up and played for any skill level. It is not worth your time to go to TPC Harding Park considering the value you can get on the South Course. The food in the restaurant is really good too! There are a lot of folks from the general public who eat there everyday.
Gave it second chance & disappointed again
Decided to give this course another chance, months after my first time playing the course. When checking in the older gentlemen and the pro shop were rude & it wasn’t a pleasant way to start the round. Pace of play was better then the first time, but still took over 5 hours. All in all, it is a overhyped muni and for this type of non-resident money you’re better off going elsewhere. Course doesn’t have any memorable holes and conditions are great and not spectacular.
Great redesign!
Rode the Black/Blue combo tees (6645/72.2/127) in 5.5H with Mike, Todd and Peter. The front was a little slow, the back was a crawl. It was usual for the group in front of us to still be on the tee when we arrived. Still a fun round because of the company and the course. The weather was windy, partly cloudy and around 60. Thank to John/GK for a well run outing!
Corica Park opened in 1927 and was redesigned in 2018 as a Australian Sandbelt Style layout by Rees Jones. Flat course that features a very generous amount of sand traps to avoid and huge green complexes. I really liked the fun layout.
The tees were good, level and well maintained for divots.
The fairways were generally good with a few problem areas. Almost always had a decent lie, but not super lush.
However, the rough was super lush. Around the fairways/greens, it was thick/consistent. The primary rough was mowed down to a good height and I found it good to play and chip out of. The places that had the native grass that is not regularly maintained needed to be avoided.
The sand traps were decently maintained with thick sand/dirt. There are a lot of traps on this course!
Loved the way the huge greens ran. Firm, medium fast and smooth. And that was my opinion after a poor putting day where I missed many makeable putts. There were no tiers or tricked up features, but there were large swales to navigate and you could easily have 75-100' putts if on the wrong side of most greens.
Huge thumbs up to the redesign. Very fun layout that provided risk/reward holes and especially in the wind, was a good test. Most holes had the option to go low or go high on your shots, few forced carries on this course. Good option for players of all skill levels, seven sets of well spaced tees. Nice restaurant on site that was very busy. Good food at a decent price and the service was excellent. Definitely recommended.
Love alameda sourht
A beautiful job reconstructing this property. Great layout and fair but tough course. Well done
A little hospitality will help the guest experience
Used GolfNow to reserve a foursome with friends who live in the East Bay. Was being helped at the pro shop by a cordial young man, but an older guy at the counter intervened. I asked if we could get out a little earlier because rain was expected during our round. His response was a curt “you reserved on GolfNow so no.” OK, I get the rules, but why not present it a little more palatable? The course was not busy. Tried to lighten it up but received a smug “i’m In control” look back. And I paid for a foursome, one had to send last-minute regrets, and we purchased cart usage. Sorry I used GolfNow in this instance.
The good - the restaurant and bar were great. Had breakfast, bloody mary’s, and post-round drinks. Wonderful employees, good food. Automated driving range, where you pour your bucket of balls into a machine that pops each ball up on the mat. Course is much improved, challenging greens.
Destination course? Nope, will not return.
We had a fun day. Pro shop personnel were far from friendly, barely going through the motions of checking me in. Starter did little more than stand at his podium. The course itself was in great shape and fun to play. There's plenty of parking space and they have good practice facilities.
Too expensive for a twilight
Played this newly re-done South course for the first time. Good lay out, fast greens just the way they should be! But for $60 twilight price, they could do better with their pricing! At the rate I could play prime time in the morning!
Excellent course
First time playing. Heard a lot of great things. Very open, yet challenging holes. Greens in immaculate condition. Will be back for sure.
Great course not at its prime
Unfortunately there was a frost delay so play was slower then my first visit but the employees did their best to get people out quickly off the back and front 9. Course has taken a beating and players don’t take care of the course like they should. All and all the course was enjoyable but there are repair jobs on a couple holes that can leave a nervous golfer shooting over workers while putting them in harms way. Once the bad weather passes the south course at Chuck Corica will be the best overall public course in the east bay.
One of the best Muni courses I've ever played!
Finally got a chance to play the new South Course @ Corica Park and I was really impressed. The greens are pure - probably the best public greens in the Bay Area - better/faster than most of the privates or destination courses I’ve played. And the fairways/rough are high quality and interesting.
It’s a really interesting course too - lots of variety - I hit every club in the bag which is always a great barometer. We’ve had a lot of rain in NorCal the last few weeks, and the course seems to drain really well - it was still relatively firm even with the rain. You had to allow for some release on the greens - the ball just won’t hit & stop unless you have a wedge.
If I lived closer, I’d play here every week, no question. Reasonably priced for NCGA members and is a steal for Alameda residents. Every part of the country should have a muni of this caliber. Probably in the top 3 munis I’ve played, next to Torrey Pines and Bethpage Black. Will be interesting to see how the course ages, and if it continues to be maintained as well as it is now - always a challenge with munis but I’m optimistic.
play on!
Not bad at all, greens are a bit fast and hard to stick but I am sure after a few good rains they will be great! I really enjoyed playing the new course!
