Aeration without Communication
I normally love Monterey Pines. I took 2 friends for my birthday and was talking about the course all the way down. We arrived early and asked the staff what was happening with the lakes as they were 50% full. The answer, "nothing" suprised us. We then walked onto the putting green...aeration! And it looked very recent with large holes and sand everywhere. I thought maybe I missed the notification so I went back to book another round the next day, but there was no warning. The greens were very bad and Monterey Pines nor GolfNow gave us an alert. We would have booked elsewhere and played Monterey Pines in September. It was a true disappointment.
Course is in good condition and a good value. The geese are retuning to the course so there’s several areas with poop. Got it on my clubs and wheels of my push cart (gross). Very friendly staff. Amenities are average but clean and well kept.
Nice course unfortunate timing
The fairways and greens are always in great condition. Really unbelievable for the price. Unfortunately the just plugged all the greens so every green was in tough shape causing more missed putts than normal. I assume in the next week or two they will be back in wonderful condition again.
Without notice!!!
Front nine closed.
Punch. 5/8 inches holes on the greens.
Playing only nine holes.
lots of fun
Short but sporty layout in excellent condition. Lots of fun, and not a bad chance to tune up the short game.
Underrated Gem
Having played here 3 times in the last two months, I have to say I am impressed at the course conditions as well as the general look and feel of the course. The rough is a true rough and not easy to hit out of which is fair. The greens have held up well during the summer. I have only played on the weekdays at the twilight rate and the pace of play during this time is very good. Rarely is there a wait. Great walking course as it is relatively flat and not very long. The teeth of the course is the rough as well as some well placed bunkering and deceiving greens. Winds can be brisk in the afternoon, but seems to be out of the fog zone of Monterey and seems to be sunny throughout the afternoons. Seems to be under the radar with tourist as they are probably attracted to the higher end courses nearby and has a very local's feel as it is relatively easy to get a tee time and there is a relaxed atmosphere...not stuffy. Highly recommend Monterey Pines to hone your game or just have fun round without a huge outlay of $$$.
Played 3 years ago and course and greens much improved!
Very nice course
Very well kept course, challenging greens but fair.
Course in great shape. Great value for money. On a Sunday afternoon pace of play was excellent. Great find in Monterey area.
Hesitant to leave review…
Because I dont need any more people knowing the secret but the crew here deserves the recognition. Course conditions and location are impeccable for the price. If you’re a low handicap you’ll be more challenged by leaving your driver in your car, but otherwise a very fun course. Tees greens fairways and rough all very healthy and manicured. You’ll be hard pressed to find a course as playable as monty pines. The standard for less-than-championship-sized courses.
Good not great
It was a busy day with a members tournament early in the morning so really hard to know pace of play on a normal day. Had a couple questions for the staff in the pro shop. They were a little bit rude and seem like they didn’t have the time for me, the starter was very friendly though. The course was fun and in decent shape. Over all I would say give it a try. I played super twilight si price was good. Carts are in decent shape.
