Nice little course
Nice little exec course for the money. You hit mostly off of mats on tee boxes too pretty good conditioned greens. Staff is friendly and practice range is ok too. Love the air traffic that flies directly overhead. Great value for money, will return.
Executive Par 4
Forgot this was an executive Par 4 course. Very nice greens, needs cart paths, better course directions (hole to hole). Some fairways lacking grass but overall: good course management. Great place to work on your short game!
Great for practice
took my wife there, had a great time, we got discount on the round, otherwise maybe wouldnt have gone. not bad course for a quick round and some practice for beginners.
Best Bang for the Buck
First timer playing NB. Kind of interesting hitting off mats, but other then teeing off course was fine. You get what u pay for, so don’t expect Monarch Beach. But $10 for 18 holes is to good to pass up. Fairways are ok and greens are good, just stay on the fairways and u’ll be hitting off grass, not dirt.
Great greens!
You hit from mats on the tee box out to average fairways to excellent greens. I met up with two other guys on the back nine. One guy( 76yrs.old) was walking and carrying his bag. I was walking with cart. Easily done in three hours. Good company and a beautiful day!
Great course!!!
I love playing here ,no wait you get on the course fast. This golf course is in good condition , I must play golf course. Also , this is a great short and mid game course
Pace of play was so slow that I left after playing 13 holes. Foursome ahead was two holes behind and no marshal to keep the pace going. This round would have been 5-51/2 hours. Not worth the wait.
Fun course
Played here for the first time with a buddy and we had a great time. We are both beginners so didn't expect much but course was fun. It was not to challenging so that was a plus. If you can hit a straight tee shot you will be golden here
For the price of a bucket of range balls
I had a great time. The informality of the place caught me off guard but in some ways was actually relaxing. I’m okay hitting off of mats when it’s practically free! Had I played here before I would have not rented a cart, would have taken a Sunday bag with maybe my wedges, an 8 and a 3 iron. The fairways are not exactly lush but the greens were in better condition than on some of the fancier courses I’ve played. Can’t address the extras, except to express my awe at the amount of stuff in the golf shop. It looked like one of the superstores packed into a walkin closet.
One of the best places to hone your short game skills. Carry few clubs with you and practice your short game is what this course is all about.
4 hours and 5 minutes watching the Bro’s Drink
Low review mainly due to pace of play. 10 minute waits for short par 3’s and three party stack-ups. They have tournaments on the weekends so be sure to ask, as it will create a very difficult round as you will get stale waiting for a short hole. We were behind a rowdy group that got into a couple arguments with an unrelated additional rowdy group—both fivesomes. The staff are nice and there have been improvements but bring patience.
Great Course for the money
Course is in nice shape. They have made some improvements. Greens are excellent.
Great course for beginners
This is my first time playing at this course. The staff is fine however the course appeared to be a bit old and run down. It took a few holes to get used to teeing off from mats. Although most driving ranges Offer mats. Overall the course was a bit run down and definitely need some work. There were no par fives and a handful of par fours. I feel it would be a great course for beginners.
Great place
Great place. Never had to wait at the box. Restaurant and small bar was closed so you need to bring your own. There was a sign that a restaurant was opening soon so that might fix that problem.
Good value and exercise if you walk
Fun course with several par 4 holes to use your driver. Restaurant was closed but e new one is opening soon. Nice driving range. Poor website. No membership specials as stated on web site.
Nice little Course
This is a nice little course with very few par 4s. The pro shop is top notch, The restaurant was under renovation. You have to cross the street in your cart at the light-no tunnel under the road. Has a nice driving range and large putting green.
Decent for the money
They are updating the course. It's in better condition then it used to be.
Great course on the up n' up.
I played this course for the first time around 3 years ago. It was far from excellent, better yet, far from even good. It was a fun course, easy to walk and very laid back. The course maintenance however was dreadful. The greens were a disaster and the fairways even worse, but ever since they have been under new management (around 2 years ago I believe) the course has seen amazing improvements and is really becoming something. In the Orange County area it's near impossible to play a course that offers a good 9 hole experience, until now. Although it has offered 9 hole play since opening, with new management it's seen significant improvement. Yes, you still tee off from the mats, but not every hole. I believe the course now has 8 tee boxes in place and is working on more. Keep in mind it is still a short par 3 course that is far from Pebble Beach, so if you're a frequent at much nicer courses in the area, such as Pelican Hill, Monarch Beach etc...you might get your panties in a bunch playing here, but egos and pretentiousness aside you have to take your hats off to the turn around the course has seen over the past couple of years. They are working avidly to improve all aspects of the course including the dining room and bar and are working diligently to improve/repair the greens which need some TLC. If you're a local you know that on weekends other courses in the area can take up to 6 hours to play a full round! And that's not including the time it takes looking for your ProV1 that the neighbor golfers on the adjacent fairway non challantly scooped up "by accident." It gets exhausting and boring sitting in your cart waiting for 4 somes to tee off and clear the greens. However, even on weekends when there is a good amount of foot and cart traffic on Newport you can easily walk the whole 18 in less than 3 hours. And less than half that if you're looking to play a quick 9. Weekdays, it's even shorter and so hassle free. I often play a quick 9 in the morning before work or will sneak in a quick 9 after. It's fantastic. The guys in the office are kind, warm and friendly. They are always willing to help however they can and just add to the experience of being here. I highly recommend that if you're in the area or just visiting, play Newport Beach. It'll by far be the easiest, and most relaxed time you have on a short, fun course. Get after it!
