Length 5727 yards

Rating 67.9

Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.

The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.

Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.

A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

The pace of play was very slow. On course marshals would have helped.

Less than expected

The club house and carts looked quite nice on initial impression. The food/beer was incredibly overpriced $10 for one beer. The driving range area is terrible. Its irons only and caps at 200 yards and their mats feel like like they are a thin piece of carpet laid on cement. You also have to drive down 18 and across the fairway to get to the range. The course was honestly quite disappointing in upkeep. There was quite a bit of unplayable area including a par 5 that the tee box was moved up 200 yards because of it. Multiple greens had significant damage and every green was essentially equivalent to putting on long bumpy fringe. Multiple tee boxes had longer grass than the rough. I hope they are in the process of growing it out to repair it but without knowing that for sure, I will never play here again. The difference in red, white and blue tees was generally about 10 yards total. The views on the back 9 are incredible so that is what you are paying for. If you live in the area, play elsewhere. If you are visiting, the views of the bay may make this course worth the price but only if you come in with low expectations for the price point.

Best score ever!

My dad grew up down the street. I played PG once before 30 years ago with my dad and his best friend. Both great guys are in heaven now but I went back thinking of them. Had a great back nine and shot 76 my best score ever. So it was a very special round of golf for me. Pacific Grove is one of those courses that makes you love golf even more.

Nice find

With all the golf courses in the Pebble Beach group, it was nice to go away from paying the big dollars to a very reasonable course with ocean holes.

The back nine around the ocean is the best.

Slow pace of play but amazing views

Every time I play here the group in front is so slow. Be ready for a 5-6 hour game.

First time playing here

Greens were recently punched, so putting was a guessing game with with how much sand was still there. I’m sure the greens are OK for public greens normally. Fairways and tee boxes were fine. Rough was a little long in certain areas. Great course for beginners or experienced since some holes are pretty narrow but it’s long. Makes you pay for bad shots. Highlights for me were the back 9 in general (views and layout) and the nature. I probably saw 25+ different deer. Almost distracting lol. Will def be back.

Lil Sandy

Still okay to putt if you hit it hard but mostly aerated greens should only be a 2 putt max. Beauty back nine and fun to be there during car week at pebble having lambos drive by on 17 mile. Well kept course and fun to look forward to the back. Get it!

Pickins were slim

I'd planned to play in the area on my birthday week, unfortunately the same week as they aerate the greens during "Car Week" in Monterey. Bad luck for me. But I've seen better job results at other courses, the sand was heavy on the greens so they were unputt-able. Overall though I'd say it was a decent day. Light breezes and great locale. Will try and play here again soon.

Great back nine with ocean views.

The greens had just been sanded so putting was terrible. THe sand had not been applied uniformly so the speed on the greens was bizarre. Otherwise, the course was in generally good condition. Perhaps waiting a few days after August 10 for the sand to seep into the greens would be advisable. There was no mention of the sand issue when we checked in, nor was there any discount offered.
