Pacific Grove Golf Links
About
Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.
The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.
Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.
A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

terrible greens
Golf shop had tee time as 2:10 rather than the 1:50 which I booked . They said Golfnow sometimes made that error. Frustrating to deal with that.
What a jewel!
This course is a little jewel. Fabulous ocean views, course in good condition, wildlife, and wonderful weather. Great value and friendly staff. This is what keeps me coming back and bringing my friends!
Great course; near perfect day
I was not disappointed with this course. The only real downside was the pace of play. We were a couple, matched with a single. The foursome ahead of us kept us waiting at nearly every hole. They did not even offer to let us play through when we caught up with them. No Marshall in sight to remedy this until last hole. They sent a group out every 8-10 min. I think. This really slowed us. But, the conditions of the day were so great with the weather and the ocean, that we didn't mind too much. We focused on the beauty of the dsy.
It is such a treat to find a course that is so beautiful and partially on the ocean, that is affordable. Please don't change that. Cathy and Wayne King
Wonderful Course!
In town for a wedding and wanted to play in the area. Arrived early and had a great breakfast and were greeted in the clubhouse by a very friendly and helpful staff. Back nine views are priceless. We'll play this course again any time we're in the area
Love this course!
It's really great to play a fun, interesting, somewhat challenging and beautifully located course for a reasonable green fee. The front nine is pretty easy so a great way to wake you up and warm you up for the back nine which is like another planet. The front nine is fun though, and a decent layout. Drivable par four, nice doglegs and a couple of longish par 5s. When you make the turn though and hit the 11th tee, your jaw will drop. As it will when you duck hook one into the marine lab next door :) The wind picks up and it is a challenging next 6 holes. We saw whales in the distance while waiting to tee off 17. Not a bad way to wait. Play this course! So worth the great deal.
Great Course and Value!
Very friendly staff and the weather was pretty awesome! The back nine was spectacular with all the ocean views. The greens was in great shape!
PG Muni is one of the best value for the buck!
The view was fantastic
73 degree wheather and perfect! The back 9 is great
Great Experience
Pacific Grove Golf Links is all it is reputed to be, and more. I personally find the course a little bit on the ego builder side, but it is so much fun to experience. On top of being situated on prime real estate next to California's Monterey Bay, it has deer observing golfers from virtually every fairway. This trip, my daughter and I saw a three point California black tail deer from 10 feet away. The weather on this trip was beautiful. However, always bring a windbreaker when playing at the coast. Traffic from San Jose was really bad! Going home a piece of cake. We attributed this to the holiday weekend. I would highly recommend this course to any and everyone. While I now live in Nevada, my Bay Area-based family and friends play this course on a regular basis, as do I when in town. Last but certainly not least, the staff is first class in smiles, greetings, and service!
Poor man's Pebble Beach
One of my favorite courses. Can't beat the price for the location and conditions. Weather is not always friendly but when we played it was perfect. Beautiful views.
Best course for the money
I always love it when I can play Pacific Grove. I call it the poor man's Pebble Beach. The front nine let's you warm up your game ready to play the beautiful and challenging ocean front back nine.
Poor man's Pebble beach
A great round of golf for a great price. Somewhat of a short course but still challenging enough. No real surprises to the layout, the huge trees outlining the fairways on the front 9 make it feel technical but the back 9 really opens up and adds the ocean breeze as the variable to the day. I'll be back
Good Value
Good layout, fun to play. Views on the back nine were breathe taking.
Back nine with views of Pacific ocean
Challenging back nine required attention to details of wind direction & safe landing areas free of sand. Substantial elevation gains & losses make club&shot selection important. I loved it & highly recommend to any level of player. Green speed was quite consistent throughout.
poor man's pebble beach
An average front side but a wow back side that rival any ocean view coarses. A must play for any visitor to the monterey bay area !!
this best unkept secret
Love playing on the coast of Monterey, especially when a foursome can play in three and a half hours. No wait on the group in front of us and nobody could pressure us from behind. Can not wait to go back.
Great Public Course
Pacific Grove is a great public course and a great value.
Best game of my life
I started the course a little nervous but the first hole was an easy layup par3 and the rest was history. The greens roll for days and everything is manicured so anywhere you lay is still an great shot opp.
Ocean views for an inland price
The back nine has some of the most scenic views you will take in anywhere. Unfortunately, on this particular round, I had way too much time to take them in. This round clocked in at 5:15. Way too long for this course. I have played it 5 times now and this was the longest round by at least an hour.
Greens were excellent.
No rain is no bueno. We had to bump the balls in the fairway but other than that a delightful walk on a beautiful piece of property. Would play again with no hesitation. Good value.
Monterey In August
Short fun course to play. The Views on the back 9 are just awesome! It's no wonder why it's called "The Poor Mans Pebble Beach".
