Pacific Grove Golf Links
About
Originally designed by Chandler Egan in 1932, the first nince holes takes you through the forested areas of Pacific Grove. Egan's nine takes you through an inland terrain and reflects much of the charm of an English rural course done in the old style.
The back nine was designed by Jack Neville, the original designer of the Pebble Beach Links. It opened in 1960, and is laid out in true links design over dunesland that approaches the sea.
Over looking the course is the Point Pinos Lighthouse. Built in 1855, it is the longest continuously operating lighthouse in California. It is a historical sentinel and picturesque landmark of the golf course.
A scenic tour of the dramatic coastline provides views of Lover's Point, Point Pinos, Crespi Pond and the natural dunesland at Asilomar. You will be enchanted by the abundance of natural wonders such as the plentiful Pacific Blacktail Deer, seals, sea lions, sea otters, pelicans and gulls.

Deer Caddies
What a great experience. The front nine wams you up with marrow fairways and you get an idea of the neighborhoods. Then you get the back 9. Ocean...Ocean and more ocean. A great treat for all
Pacific grove
Reasonable course really really busy and no one put to hurry people along course reasonable condition
Fun in the wind
Beautiful day, but WINDY on back 9!
Course was somewhat drier than I expected with it being on the coast, but we are in a drought. Awesome views and accompaniment of deer families everywhere you look. Will return !
Great little course
This course is all about the back nine. They are a great set of holes on one of the most beautiful settings I have ever seen. A lot of dear. You can also see and hear the harbor seals. Just a wonderful experience.
Pacific Grove-Always an enjoyable round
I love everything about PG except the bunkers. They lack sand and what is left has been compacted by overspray from the sprinklers.
resturant under new management and the food was very good.
Great course, great price
The pacific grove golf course is one of the hidden gems of the Monterey Peninsula. Close to great attractions and the friendliest staff. Gavin was especially knowledgable and helpful.
Can't wait to go back.
Cozy, typical muni course in a terrific location with world class views from the back 9.
Have played here in the sunshine and in the fog and it’s all good. You can’t get too worked up about the course conditions when you consider the money and the location. With the drought in CA, the course was in fine condition. The ball runs a long way when the fairway is not wet. We rode but many – maybe most – walked with a push cart. Teed off at 2:50 and finished with plenty of day light at 7:00. Decent to good rental clubs, decent driving range. One small oddity is the pro shop doesn’t announce the tee times and parties. We just showed up at the right time, found our other two-some and took off. Definite go back.
Great golf corse value
This is like the poor man's Pebble Beach. The back nine is spectacular so bring your camera/phone
Beauty and the Beast
Please do not underestimate this course because of the yardage.
The front nine is a little scruffy and tight. The 9th at 213 yards from the white tees and into the ocean wind is a challenge. The back nine is a typical links course with very tight lies in the fairways and lots of sand dunes and native grasses. The course is undergoing an aggressive ice plant removal program to encourage growth of native dune grasses. The exposure of the back 9 to the strong afternoon ocean winds makes one experience Scottish links golf - wonderful.
Great fun with friends
We had a great visit with our friends on this unique course. The minor waits that we had gave us ample time to visit and laugh about the quality of our games .
Great Ocean Views
The back nine holes saved the course. There were deer on almost every hole.
Great Value
Where else can you play for 60 bucks on a weekend and have holes right on the ocean with ocean views on the entire back nine? Certainly nowhere that I know of. This course is always fun and gives a variety of shots. Mid handicappers can break 80 with some smart play. Higher handicaps will still have a great time. This is generally on our play list when we head over to Monterey for a weekend.
Tale of Two Nines
Wish I could rank the two nines; If I could here goes:
Back - 5
Front - Negative 3
This course has been called the poor man's Pebble, and it would be more appropriately called:
Bad Muni - Front nine
Great Back nine, similar to PB
It's an old course design, and it is short by today's standards. Again, as I stated, the front is just a regular everyday muni, nothing special at all, even worse than most muni's. Then you get to 11, and you get your money's worth. Lot's of photo ops of the Pacific.
poor everything
Poor staff communication. Driving range 3 min. walk away and no carts allowed. Poor signage. Course so so condition. Slow play.
The view
A fun course with beautiful views on the back nine.
Nice track but it's not pebble beach
I wanted to play Pebble Beach, way too expensive. I read all of the online reviews and decided to play Pacific Grove. For the money it was well worth it. The front 9 was average, kinda short and narrow. The back 9 was much nicer but very windy, which is to be expected since it is right on the beach. Very nice scenic views of the Pacific and a very reasonable course to score low.
beautiful day to golf on the coast
I am not much of a golfer, but I do enjoy going out with my hubby . So we always golf when on vacation. I guess because it was right after Mem Day and we golfed late afternoon, we almost had the course to ourselves. So it was relaxing and a nice, easy pace. The greens were very challenging for me, but did Ok getting down the fairways. Wind was not much of a deterrent. Staff very friendly. Will definately return someday.
Enjoyable
My wife and I enjoyed this course. Hitting surfaces a bit rough but the greens are good. Pace of play was fine. Lots of wildlife to enjoy. Even with so-so conditions, it's a great course to play with ocean views and it won't break the bank. We did that yesterday at Pebble Beach!! Yowza!!
Potential
This could be a good course with great views if given the chance to shine.
The corse is interesting with great greens, but unfortunately and it's a big but the fairways were in terrible condition. There were large section with no grass cover at all this was the same on all the fairways. My partner and I had good rounds but were dissapointed with the condition of the course.
Excellent Pacific Ocean Course
Often called the "poor man's Pebble Beach" this well known track is as pleasant and enjoyable as one can expect. For at least twenty years, have wanted to play this course but never could get my schedule coordinated. Found the opportunity this past weekend and had a very enjoyable day. Weather was Chamber of Commerce perfect, plenty of sun, slight ocean breeze and about 70 degrees. Joined a threesome of very nice guys and walked the course. A terrific day overall and I hope to return soon - certainly not letting another 20 years go by....
