Time to Mow
Everthing about this course needs to be mowed. From the tee boxes which were so long, that even a 3 1/2 tee was barely showing the ball due to how long the grass was. The fairways are in good condition, but over watered on about 60% of the holes. Too much mud to watch out for carts to drive on, let alone the walker in our group. The worst was the greens. I can live with a lot of bad things on a course as long as the greens are good. These greens have recovered well from the punching that had obviously occurred, but the over seeding and lack of mowing made the greens close to unplayable. After the 3rd hole, everyone in the group joked that they should be putting with their hybrids. And for $49/ player?? Not worth the money, and there is a reason why I haven't played this course in a while. Now, it will take a lot to get me back to this place anytime soon.
poor condition
Fair Ways wet and muddie,Greens Rolling at a 3,Poor condition all around, try in a month at least
Great day
I golfed with a friend, my 10 year old son rode with me and we were paired up with a couple of young guys, one of which had never played before. It was pretty slow, but we had a great time nonetheless. I have lived in CA for nearly 10 years since moving here from Seattle and have never played this course. I have played dozens of other courses in CA....and I think I have found a new gem. Considering the drought, the course was in very good shape, especially the greens. We will be back!!!
Great staff and solid course.......
There is not really much to share, other than to say the staff at Diamond Oaks is one of the best and the course provides some solid challenges throughout the round.
The pace of play tends to be between 4:25 - 5:10, with us coming in closing to 4 hours the day we played. We had a slower group of 4 in front of us, with 3-4 holes separating them, so if they had not allowed us to play through, it would have been closer to the 5.5+ range.
All of that said above, I cannot fathom how this course, and so many others in the Sacramento region, are allowed to water the courses as much as they are during what is one of the worse droughts in history. During the month of August, you should never have to deal with plugged balls in the fairway or approach areas in front of greens. Within our group, I lost a ball just off the green on #6, which was due to a small swampy area of grass. We are talking 5 -10 feet from green and I lose my ball, not good. This happen to occur on multiple holes, but we were lucky to find our balls.
Bottom line, the fairways (overall course) should not sound like we're driving through a rain storm in August, which would help make the course play to the season we are in and likely keep pace of play ahead of schedule with less golfers trying to locate balls in fairway or just off.
I will play here again, as they are not the only course in the area (Lincoln Hills - Orchard & Catta Verdera to name a few) with an over watering and soggy feel to them, but we should all share feedback with the staff as they clearly need to make adjustments in their water management and drainage.
Surprisingly Healthy
What drought?
The entire course was in good condition, no sign of drought related stress.
EZ Peasey.
Went out early on a Friday morning. Course was in terrific shape. They use reclaimed water so drought is not an issue. Fast paced and not too difficult.
Beginner friendly
I love this course. It's probably one of the most forgiving courses around the area. Wide fairways, big greens. Fairly smooth. The only draw back is the practice area's. The instructors there think they own the place. They take over the practice putting area. Most of the time their just standing in the way of other GOLFERS who are practicing their putting. Other then that, it's a great course to play.
Great Local Course
Well taken care of course. A local favorite. The morning was Booked solid and made for a slow playing time but that's going to happen. The weather was great so it wasn't so bad.
Pace of plaay was good
I have played this course several times in the past few years and find it enjoyable for the most part. The problem we had was that the course was heavly over wateredwhich caused mud and soggy ground almost everywhere.
I was surprised by this because of the water restrictions we all have now because of the drought
conditions.
Diamond Oaks
Great course for beginners. Wide open course and in great shape.
It's Diamond
I have played this course many many many times. In fact I used to work there in high school (1998ish). So am very familiar with the layout. It's a decent course no doubt. Is it a $55 round? Ehhh. It could be. But the reality is being a muni it forces you to play along side and behind tank topped sweat panted individuals who would be more at home at a Nascar race than a golf course. This leads to slow play and lack of etiquette. ie not repair divots on greens, loud boisterous conversation and general disregard for the rules and respect for the game. Don't get me wrong, I have a soft spot in my heart for this course but due to the pace of play and bloated price tag it is one I only play when I get a good deal
over watering in the drought
Every hole was swampy from being over watered, they were even spraying down the greens during the day and sprinklers running the entire time we were out. This is completely irresponsible in the worse drought CA has every seen.
Diamond Oaks in GREAT SHAPE.
Wow, played early Friday morning and the course is in outstanding shape from tee to green. Love this course that is a good mix of different types of holes. Didn't hurt that I had my lowest round to date. I think I will play here again this next weekend.
Overall good golf facility but
A first class facility for a muni course. Good staff and course conditions. A very enjoyable round, but do they really have to charge a $5 cart deposit? Just an added hassle to deal with after your round.
Golf Friendly
Had a great time with my friends. We went at out own pace. Green were good. Fairway were nice. Overall we had a great time and will definitely be back.
Course is ok
Tha course was good and chalenge, sand traps there was no sand and to many little rocks, green were very slow like they did not cut the grass.
Tuesday at Diamond Oaks
Play slow and course crowded. Course is rolling hills and nice balance of open and trees. No 6 has the slash of a big creek and is always a challenge. Par 3s had tough flags behind the bunkers. Course very wet; many bogs and standing water. But very green for this drought year. Wish they could improve driving range.
Ok
Course was in good condition, play was a little slow, causing the group behind us to hit into us a few times. Lady in the restaurant was a little rude. Had fun though
