The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch
About
The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

Golfer Reviews
I like the layout, it is harder than it looks.
The course and all the facilities were clean and well kept.
Hidden Gem
Cannot say anything bad about this place been three times and even during our summer drought conditions were excellent.Hats off to the management and maintenance staff. I will be back!
Fantastic Condition in December!
I was pleasantly surprised to find a course in such a good shape in drought stricken Northern Cal.
Fairways and Greens were nice and manicured. This was my first time and will definitely not the last.
Love this course!
MY GO TO COURSE !!
This is one of my favorite courses in the Monterey area and i've played them all, probably because it's ten min. from my house, if you want the smell of salt air and waves crashing head to the coast...none of that here . Beautiful views of the Diablo mts. ...and the course is ALWAYS in GREAT shape greens roll, fairways mowed tight, rough not too rough, give it a try, you'll go back!!
Central Coast Pleasure
Crazy Horse is a 1st Class Golf Course....but what makes this Course special is the Customer Service and the desire of Staff to make your day Golfing a Great Experience. Peter, the Pro Shop Staff Member has been 'EXCEPTIONAL' every time I have played at Crazy Horse. But, that's not all. The Condition of the course, even after heavy rains, is FANTASTIC....no standing water and the Bunkers are in perfect shape....what else can I say, but GO PLAY.
The course an enjoyable challenge
The course has small fast onionulating greens, which protects the course and provides a fun challenge. The suttle changes in elevation between tees and greens made distance control and accuracy a premium.
I look forward to playing the course again.
Course overall
Course fairways and greens are well kept. Fairways are wide with reasonable off fairway obstacles. Sand traps could use a little more sand and more rakes per trap. Driving range could use some improvement, but it is okay.
Fun course
Well kept course. Nice fairways and greens. Good practice areas too. Will be on my list of choices to play now.
The course is interesting and provides a variety of challenges.
It was a beautiful October day and a pleasure to play golf on this well maintained and scenic course.
Fairways and greens are very good and the pace of play was very good. We played on a Tuesday so there was time to relax and enjoy the course. There are holes that will provide sufficient challenge to keep the game interesting.
Great views of mountains around Salinas
Fine layout, course is in great shape.Friendly staff.Nice practice range and putting greens.Great value for a semi private course.
Very Nice Course
We really enjoyed our day. The people, both workers and fellow golfers, were all very friendly and helpful. It was a little confusing following the course, even with the map provider on the back of the score card. I'm sure next time we go it will be easier. The facility is very well maintained (restrooms, cart paths, greens), they even provide free coffee and ice tea - sobe. Overall great experience.
Very fun and challenging course
The course is in excellent condition with lots of different challenging holes. It makes you want to come back and play after your first round here. Terrain changes, dog-legs, trees, wind, and small greens will keep you trying to make the shot that keeps your score low. Quite a unique golf course. Staff was very nice, facilities are great, and the pastrami sandwich was the best.
Beautiful Views
This semi-private course is fun to play, reasonably priced, and challenging enough to suit most golfers. The restaurant/bar is a pleasure, staff are friendly and helpful, and the views are enjoyable. In fact, the greatest distractions to golf are the wonderful vistas of surrounding farming areas. Well worth the drive and price.
All around nice course
Challenging but not intimidating. Nice combination of easy and tough holes. Great staff. Would definitely play here again.
New course name, same course
Course is in fairly good shape. It seemed the tee boxes hadn't been mowed in a while and they were a bit shaggy. The staff was pleasant and efficient. The greens are quite small.
A wonderful Sunday
NFL sunday means a really quiet golf course. This semi-private course is well staffed with warm and attentive folks, is in great shape given the dry conditions, and is a fun and challenging layout.
Had a dream round today in that I was able to play as a single with no one in front or behind at the beginning of the round (even though I was booked into a 4-some, pro shop got me off in advance of my tee time since I was ready to go). I hit a little traffic toward the end but still finished in under 3.5 hours.
Top notch day at a top notch facility.
crazy hourse golf
Very upscale experience, from course maintenance to club house touches of class.
Tiny, tiny greens
Smallest greens on any par 70 or higher course I've played in recent memory. There isn't so much front | middle | back pin placements, as there are various shades of middle. Definitely the largest part of the defense of this golf course throughout the 18 holes is those greens.
That said, on the front 9 the up and down and around nature also contributed. It makes for some quirky, short golf holes, but there is a modicum of interest in most of them. The reaaaaaaaally down hill par 3 being the best | worst example of that. Funnily enough we were all on or around the green after guessing on club selection.
The back 9 is more traditional and contains better golf holes than the fron because of it.
Now that I have played the course I have no desire to return, but that does not mean it was a back course. If you are a local I can see it being a regular stop, but for someone coming from further away, you will likely find just as good value near home.
Friendly People EVERYWHERE at this course
Some very unusual holes that offer much more challenge than yardage would indicate. ALL people were extremely friendly to us. A real pleasure.
