The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch
About
The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch (previously known as Salinas Golf & Country Club) in Monterey boasts a reputation as "the friendliest club in the area." Opened in 1925, it's also known as one of the area's oldest clubs though they are loathe to label themselves as "traditional". The golf course sprawls across rolling countryside dotted with mature trees and the occasional water hazard. Originally opened as a nine-hole layout, the golf course may appear somewhat short at just over 6,200 yards from the back tees but don't underestimate its level of difficulty. It's a tight layout that demands accuracy, especially when navigating the small greens. There is plenty of variety at The Club at Crazy Horse Ranch, you may even find yourself using all the clubs in your bag. The golf course finishes with a stunning view of Salinas Valley from an elevated tee. The fairway slopes downhill to a well protected green guarded on the left with trees and on the right with bunkers.

SGCC is well worth it.
Great course! Affordable, and well taken care of. Greens are small and fast.
This course was in excellent condition.
Very enjoyable to play, we will be coming back in the near future.
My new favorite course
I have played here several times now. The staff is the friendliest I have ever met and knew me by name after 2 visits. The course is lush and green, fairways moderately wide, and greens are very small. Although not that long in yards, the course plays as a fairly difficult course. I like the elevation changes and views from the highest points. The greens play fast and have subtle breaks but the ball rolls true. There are tree and water hazards to kep your game sharp. It doesn't get any better than this.
Very Nice Course!
A very nice course! well-maintained with excellent greens - small and challenge. The pace of play was fast and the staff was very friendly.
Excellent course...always kept in great condition
I've played this course 10 times or so....and it always is in great condition. Staff is always very friendly. This is a country club that started with Golf Now a year ago or so...so you get to play a real country club without the exorbitant membership fees. The greens are always very fast and tricky...be sure to practice putting first to get the speed down. Sand traps are the best in the area...always nice sand in them. And great practice area and great country club food!
well maintained course
Well maintained course, good value to play in a wonderful day.
I will recommend any one to play this course
Excellent choice
Great course for great price. Greens are small, fast and tough!
Great Conditions!!!!
These guys at Salinas Golf and CountryClub really take pride in their course, and it shows....
strawberry fields
a wonderful golf course in the general area of Monterey. the course has some of the most challenging greens you will find anywhere.
greens speeds are similar to murfield village
outside of Columbus ohio. very true and well conditioned greens, and fairways where you will find good lies that make you fell comfortable hitting to the small greens. lots of elevation changes especially on the front nine. anyone in that area for a visit or people who live nearby need to give this golf course a try. surrounded by strawberry fields as far as you can see.
Good condition course
Fairway and tee boxes were maintained well. Course layout was little bit confused for first timer, Overall nice course.
Awesome
Very nice course excelent conditions, the staff is very friendly
Tru Fast Greens
Short but sweet. You will use all your clubs. Thought provoking second shots, risk reward opportunities and birdies await.
Glad SVGCC is open to the Public
I ;played the course years ago as a guest, but thanks to golf now, the value was outstanding with a cart and I played with a friend from Santa Cruz.
Will be one of my favorites!
Wanted to play a course I had never played before. Easily made a reservation. Was warmly greeted and directed before play. I thought course was a jewel. Very fair. Only two par fours on back side that were difficult without a perfect drive.
Need to be strategic
The course layout is not easy and that's the reason why the rating is 130 in spite of short distance.
Fairways are narrow and green is hard to read the breaks.
day outing
SGCC is a beautiful place to have a great golf outing. We got a great price and the weather was great. It's a challenging course . Will be back again soon.
Short and fast
This is a fun course for all levels, especially if you like small fast greens. The size, slope, and speed of the greens more then make up for the length. Bring your short game or the scores will add up fast.
1925 Gem
My friends and I absolutely love playing this private club where accuracy holds a much higher premium than distance. Beautifully surrounded by the Gabilan Mountains and rich farmland, the course winds through the contour of the gently rolling hills. The greens are incredibly quick and true. A quick round played on a very well maintained course at a reasonable price....What's not to like!!
Nice Place, Nice Greens, Fun Golf
Played with a group of 3 who were excellent golfers and nice people. The course is challenging but fun with a wide variety of holes and shot values. Bentgrass greens are excellent quality and the course is in fine condition.
Pro shop staff could have been a little more welcoming but I guess I am not a member--on the other hand it put me off a little since I think they are trying to attract members. Greenskeepers were respectful and friendly.
I have played here before and the clubhouse has a nice barroom and the server is nice.
Overall I like SG&CC and will play there again. You can walk or ride--it is good old fashioned golf without a lot of misery that some new designs boast about. Good place--good golf.
Good track
This course is a good track. Greens are in good shape, ball role good but, they are small. Some greens have small stream in front of them.
