An odd little course
Very informal short course hidden in a - guess what? - canyon in one of the older areas of San Diego. Winding cart paths with little bridges to some of the greens and lots of tall cattail rough in the most inconvenient positions. But the fastest round of golf I've played in years. Not fancy, or particularly well kept up, but okay for sharpening the short game. Claim to have been designed by Robert Trent Jones and Sam Snead - hard to believe.
Tight fairways and plenty of obtacles.
Must be accurate on most holes. I've lost a lot of balls here.
Greens are excellent
For an executive course Tecolote golf course is very challenging coz most of the fairways are narrow and requires precision shots. This would be a good course to hone iron shots. Greens are tricky too and provides an opportunity to hone your green reading capability.
Quick play. Good place to work on irons.
Range isn't open before we tee'ed off. Ask a guy working if we could just grab a few balls laying by the mats and the guy said No problem. The man running the pro shop came out and very rudely told us you can't hit any balls. No big deal but the manor it was implied and his reasoning was unprofessional. So that started the day off bad. Very quick playing short course. Small greens and elevation changes make some holes tough. After the start I had a good back nine. Would have given four stars if
not for what happened when we gt there.
In general good experience
I liked this course. We spent a good day of golf. Had a good experience
different challenge
Nice mix of distances for an exec course. Somewhat narrow, but worth the effort
A great little course
It is a nice little course if you are looking for something basic and fast. No beverage cart when I went out so grab your water and beer in the clubhouse.
Fun course to play
Dont get behind the ladies day on Monday's - very slow
You will not shoot low here!
A great blend of holes that will give you an opportunity to use all of your clubs. 4 par 4's invite the driver if you wish, but the ball will be gone if you're not straight. Elevation makes objects seem closer (and farther) than they appear. A narrow stream puts a water hazard into many holes in different spots. The perfect place to work on scoring irons, short game, and challenging greens.
Best executive course in San Diego
The course is well maintained, better than most courses managed by American Golf in the county. The course is challenging with narrow fairways and undulating greens, while still being fun to play. The management deserves kudos for a well run golf experience.
Challenging course, great value
This course is well maintained around the green areas. Very challenging course. Need to be accurate. Greens are undulating so you never get a straight 3 foot putt.
Great Course for Short game
This is a great course to work on short game. The greens are all pretty well protected and some days set up with tricky pin placement. Makes getting up and down a premium
Course is great for working on your short game
This course is great if you want to play a challenging executive course. The course is located in a canyon so it is great for walking. The narrow fairways and wind conditions require accuracy and proper club selection. The greens could use a bit better maintenance but overall it's agreat course for after work or if you don't have 4 hours to play. I will continue to play this course regularly.
Tough, narrow, but fun.
For an executive course, this is a tougher one. The creek goes along or through most of the holes. The course is also enclosed in a valley on both sides. If our shots tray from the center often, bring some extra balls. Course is kept nicely, sometimes it's a little longer than 3.5 hrs because some beginners are in front of you that play some extra balls. Otherwise great little executive course, decent value for your money.
No Frills but Great fun
Tecolote is nothing to write home about but if you are a beginner or an average weekend warrior (like me) I think you will have fun. Mostly par 3's in the 105-190 yd. range with a few par 4's that you can hit driver on if you feel like it. Simple yet cool layout that runs through a big canyon. Love the first hole-110 yds down a small cliff to the green. No stuffy attitudes here, just locals having fun and having a few brews!
Good Ol' Tecolote
Had an excellent experience at Tecolote. Nice staff, Good upkeep of the course. I do not have a problem with the foot golf. Those guys look like they were having a good time.
